Chuck: I am very sorry for your loss. You should be proud you raised a fine young man willing to make such a sacrifice. I hope you and your family find the strength and courage to carry you through this difficult time.

CP,

No amount of time or distance will remove from you the place he will always have in your heart.

In much the same way, nothing will ever remove the memory of him, and those like him,

the citizen soldiers who have made this nation possible from its very beginnings,

and to whom we all owe the greatest debt,

who have earned the highest honor,

and who have secured every freedom we enjoy,

from those beginnings until today.

With all due honor and respect my friend.

Regards ZZ.

Chuck, I've sent you a PM as well. Words on the 'net seem so futile for dealing with such a loss. My thoughts and wishes are with you.

I wish I could thank all of you right now individually and I will try to do so later. I am so glad to know that Charlies' contribution and sacrifice is being appreciated by so many people from around the world. I hope he is able to look down right now and feel all of this love.

This is a quote taken with permission from a PM that Chuck sent me in reply to my PM to him. It's hearing stories like this that make me think there's hope for our race.....

quote:

.... He volunteered out of turn to go out on patrols who knows how many times so that his friends who are married wouldn't have to go. He kept all this secret from me, I thought he was doing a rear echelon job in a secured area. I want as many people in this world as possible to know that Charlie was one of our finest and of how proud I am of him.

Chuck

There's a very likely chance that there's a wife and child that still has a husband and father today thanks to Charlie's sacrifice.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

I am so sorry for your loss! On the other hand, I thank your son for standing up to fight for everyone here, at home. I also thank you and your wife for raising a young man with such conviction and patriotism to be willing to make such a sacrifice. Amazing!

Chuck,

I can't imagine how you must feel right now, you have my most heartfelt condolences. My brother in-law served in the first gulf war. I have the deepest respect for those who are willing to make such a sacrifice for others. You should be proud.

I'd like to say more, but words fail me.

CP,

I don't know really what to say except that I'm very sorry. However, according to the article in the Seattle Times it appears your son gave happiness, joy and appreciation to the lives of those lucky enough to have known him.

I have also seen the loss of two friends in the service and for some reason hearing of yours brings back those memories as if they just happened.

You may not know this but I am in the transition of moving to Auburn. I spend my weekends at our house up there and work during the week at the lab here in Portland.

Even though I don't know you well I would be honored to attend the memorial.

With all my heart,

Alex

Chuck,

I really do not beleive you need to even begin to worry about how to thank us individually. As a matter of fact we should be thanking you for a son like yours that gave as he did for his friends and our country.

My heart goes out to you and your family and if you need anything just pop in here and ask.

My sincere condolences go to you and your family. I am so sorry to hear of your loss, but take heart in the fact that your son gave his life to protect our freedoms and ensure our safety. There is no higher honor. You and your family will be in my prayers.
