Finnaly the wind let up enough to go out and maiden the Nasty, OK one more time on set up, 480 geared motor, jeti jes110 ESC SD RX & TX and my new 11.1 1300 lipo all I can say is lipo's ROCK, I only had mine charged to 11.80 when I hooked it up, got impaitient. made all the normal preflight checks and it was time to let her go, throttle up and off it went, strong and fast
as it turns out I don't really need any up or right trim, as quick as it took off I was having to counter it untill I got it high enough to readjust, I flew it around fairly easy getting a feel for it and gaining a little alt and then after a few circuits and having it trimmed out I tryed a couple easy moves, rolls are not as quick or clean as I expected, it won't hover but it will go vert long enough to spin it a couple times before it starts falling off to one side or the other, whats that a pieroette (spelling), OK been 5 mins bring it down and check batt, 11.38 OK back up flew around, nothing crazy just get used to it and have fun, man this thing handles good, go up running about 80" made a pieroette and as it rolled out motor cut out and I had to emergency land it, was across feild so the best I could do is try to control the fall, I didn't think to bring throttle down and reset motor anyway it lands behind a group of small trees, near the road, panic sets in because I can't tell if it landed in the road or the ditch beside the road that is 3 feet deep of water, I swear that side of the feild is a freaking plane magnet, every time I let a plane get over there it goes down. So here we go, the wife and me walking to find it, got lucky, it was hanging in a little sappling about 5" up at the edge of the trees, not a scratch on it , OK take it back check the battery, 10.79 and barely warm, OK one more quick flight, up she goes but after a couple min the motor cuts off, I glide it down and land and ck batt 9.32, now if I've got all this right that is where the ESC should have cut it out, right? 3 V per cell. If so here's the really cool part, I didn't have the LVC hooked up. in closing The Nasty is auwsome and Lipo's RULE , was a fantastic trip to the feild with one minor exception, we thought we had vid of it till we got home and went to DL and there was nothing there . maybe next time
Started getting parts for the F-15 cut out, I think I'm really gonna like this one too

Thats great, it is not very often you get luck and get your plane back undamaged. Glad you got to fly. I went by the local field on the way home from the store. A lot were out to fly. No wind temp was nice. Me -- Really wanted to fly. Got home unload the Durango and had to work on cleaning the house up. Wife big on clean house. No time left to fly. I think I will pack the planes last. Might get one last fly in at the house before I move.

You make me want to build. Maybe I can bring the slow stick in the house and work on it tonight. I need to put a new motor mount on it. I got two from the LHS the other day. 3:1 gear for my 400 motor. I broke my other one a while back and have been flying with a patch job. Be great to have it back in top form.

Are you using packing tape for the hinge on your wings?
I used to but now I use CA hinges. I love them. You can make your own from an old floppy disk. They work, but I like the CA hinges better.

Chris, are you building the Nasty, what brushless motor are you using, does it use 4 bolts to mount it
Oh yeah ntjp, I forgot about you moving, bummer, but you'll be flying before you know it

Chris, if you make a SMALL horizonal section on the nose and square it to create a box at the base you can epoxy a thin ply to create a firewall to mount the motor to, it would be strong and the cross section would help control torque on the nose, like the front on a lot of flat foam planes that have full length horizonal fuse, just an idea

Hey Chris,
I would love to have seen that cat. The RimFire I had came with a template for mounting the motor. I used it to cut out a 1/8" wood fire wall. I used 5 min epoxy to glue it in. works great. If you want extra strength you can cut foam to go behind it. If you look at the photos posted earlier you will see the RimFire mounted. If you don't have a template I can PM one to you.
If you look on page 1 the first pic of the p-40 shows the firewall without the motor. The crash pics shows that the firewall held and the plane cracked. I think I will add 1/8" support to my builds in the future behind the firewall. Plane is already tail heavy.

Yes, I think I am using the same motor you are. I use 1/8" plywood for my firewall. You can break it if you use too much force to drill it out. To help make it easier I place the plywood on a 1 x 4 and drill through the plywood into the 1 x 4. This also helps keep it from splintering. If you have a bad problem with splintering you can put masking tape over the plywood. This helps also. Use a sharp drill bit. With the template you can make as many firewalls as you need.

I used a 9 x 3.8 APC prop with my Katana. I think it will respond the same on the Nasty.
