Here's another money, and time saving tip. So you need a 2' hole in your windshield for your Nitro car? A can of Pactra Racing Finish is excatly that size! I would suggest to get a circle cutter for more accurate and neater circles. This is a great ip for newbies! By the way other things may work also such as a, car rim.

could you also possibly use a hole saw from a drill for this purpose

Yes, you could, but if it slipped off the spot where you want the hole. Then it would be in the middle of the chassis or something You can do what you want.

Another tip is... a "Counter Sink" drill bit is the perfect size for Post holes... No worries about it slipping either becuase it drills a pilot hole for you also...
