I am putting together my Brio right now, my question is this... I have an Eflite 480 Outrunner but it is the 910kv not the 1020kv. Could I get away with using this motor? I have a 40A ESC (v2) and 2100mAh battery. Was planning on using a 12x6 APC but I have an 11x7 too. Any help would be apreciated, on paper the 910 and 1020 are pretty close.

I tried that motor, and the performance on the Brio was horrible.

It barely got off the ground. Very animic and underpowered.

The 910kv ended up in a Mini-Pulse XT, it turned out to be PERFECT for that plane.

Now I'm running an inexpensive ( B.P. Hobbies) BP 2915-5D 550w motor on the Brio using a big 11v 4000mAh LiPo.

This is a relabeled TowerPro motor.

I have a question about that "horrible flight performance", what ESC, Battery, and prop were you running? did you ever hook it up to a watt meter and see what the specs were??

Recommended prop, battery and ESC with the 480 910KV motor instead of the 1020kv.

Another guy at the field had his also set up exactly like mine, except he was using the 1020kv motor.

His performance was much better and the plane did not seem underpowered.

I've since transfered the electronics to the Mini-Pulse, and the Mini-pulse flies like I had hoped the Brio would.

Finally maddened the Brio. Using the BP A2814-6 Brushless Out runner Motor that ELECTRON recommended. All I can say is woo hoo I can fly the Brio fast, or real so, unlimited vertical at 3/4 throttle. Have been flying the plane more as a pattern IMAC bird. Can do the IMAC basic pattern easy with it. Like this plane a lot.

Hello RC enthusiasts, I am a self taught RC flier who has made my way through the electric planes. AEROBIRD 3Super Cub-Trojan T-28Parkzone P51 and now the Brio. I just flew it for the first time tonight after owning it for a year (I have been building up my confidence with the other planes) WOW! Fast and amazingly touchy! I am using a standard set up-stock airframeE-Flight 480, E-Flight 40 amp ESC-E12x7 prop and a 3 cell 2100 m Lipo. Using the DX6i radio set up. She was very fast and I had a couple of near misses as I was trying to get it trimmed up. Winds were light and variable 10-15 knots. Got her back on deck with no damage. Looking forward to the next chance to fly it. I believe once I settled down and got it trimmed it fle pretty well. I would like to hear from others who still have and fly the Brio. I do have a question, how do you set up the DX6i for flying this thing? I would like to have a reduced mode and an advanced mode to switch to once I am stabalized in flight.

I still have my Brio 10, flying it couple weekends ago and I still love it... As far as setup I use a DX7 radio so I can't give you the exact programming for your radio, but basically what you need to set is your low rates to 60% that's where mine are and its perfect...

Thank you, I will dig into the manual and figure out how to set up a 60%. It was really touchy, the slightest touch would cause significant movement. I am lucky that I got it back without damage. I did have the firewall seperate where it is glued onto the airframe. I put more glue on it and a bit of backup tape.

Electron: What kind of flight times are you getting with your setup.

I'm curious because I'm now using a slightly larger BP hobbies motor.

With a 2200 TP I get right at 10 minutes of flight time per a charge. I am a pretty agressive flyer, if I took it easy I could probably get 15 minutes out of it..

Hi,

My Brio 10 has an AXI 2814/12 - 1320KV. Hovers at less than half throttle. I use 3-blade 10*6 prop, or 2-blade 11*7. The flight time with my $7 "no brand" (ebay) 2150mAh 20C 3 cell battery is about 15 - 20 minutes when flying moderate pattern flight. In 3D, or close to 3D (I'm not an expert in 3D yet), the flight time is 10 - 15 minutes. At very moderate flight at moderate throttle, I have flown that plane up to 25 - 30 minutes.

Yeah I'm finding that I overdid it with the BP 2915-5D with a 9x6E prop using a 2200mAh 20C ( 30C burst ) battery.

While I can fly the plane at 40% throttle, no matter what, I seem to hit the LV cutoff at the 5 minute mark... the engine is not efficient this low.

Methinks your's was the best choice in a BP/TowerPro motor to use.

Strangely I fly exactly the same motor/prop combo using two of those batteries in parallel, in my Super Sportster EP and end up with well over 24 minutes of flight time.

I THOUGHT that if I ran the 2915-5D in the Brio I'd get half of that run-time... ( the batteries support the draw... ) this was not the case.
