While flying mine a week or so ago, the canopy flew off. I even had tape on it at the time. Anyway the canopy was toast. I tried to order one through the LHS and they are telling me it will be late September before they will get them. Anyone have one from a re-kit that they would part with. The LHS said it would cost me $11.00 for a new one. I hate to wait that long to fly my Brio. It's one of the better flying planes I own.

I've got an almost perfect re-kitted canopy if you want it...

Sorry so many of you are having trouble with your Brios. I read through this entire thread after I bought mine and was not sure what to expect. I maidened mine today and it was AWESOME! I did not experience any of the snapping tendencies that were described. I balanced mine between the two points, probably a little closer to the back one. This plane does the best knife edge of anything I've ever flown. almost no coupling and just a little pressure on the rudder to keep it level. It feels like it would knife edge loop, but I wanted to take it easy on the first two flights. Power was excellent. I had it hovering at below 1/2 throttle. I kept it pretty high up except for a 30' or so inverted pass. I used the Quique light weight setup to the letter. Park 480, 40 amp Eflite ESC, Eflite s75 servos, Thunder Power 1320 battery, APC 11x7e prop and a R610UL JR receiver for my 10x radio. My all-up weight is 28.5 ounces. I used all of the throws and expo recommended in the manual. My high rates are just a little less than what they showed. I flew the first minute or so on low rates and then went to high and stayed there. We have a grass field so I removed the wheel pants and replaced the axels with 3mm screws and replaced the wheels with Sullivan 1.75" Skylites. I hand launched for takeoff and landed nice and slow and smooth. The only thing I did not like was how hot the battery and motor get. I was using throttle management pretty well I thought. I think I might go to a 2100mah battery to cool things down and get some more flight time. It seemed like just when I was having fun it was time to come back. My kit was nice too, probably one of the nicest I've built. The covering was perfect and there were no warps. The hinge slots were off center a little on the elevator but it was close enough to not cause any problems. Thanks to all who shared their experiences here.

Hi

I just flew my Brio today and in a word-beautiful-one of the rare times for me anyway-no trims required.

My setup is

Eflite 480
11x7 APCe prop
TP 2100 3 cell Pro lite
Great Planes Silver Series 45 amp ESC
JR 6102 radio with 241 servos and a Hitec Micro 05S 5 channel Receiver
60% Expo on ailerons will increase it a bit more
40% Expo on elevator
AUW 32 ounces

It flies at a nice comfortable speed at least for me with a nice vertical-it's a neat plane
I will get another one for a spare and it would be neat if they made a "40" size Brio.

Anyway just thought I would post this as it is a real neat plane.

Take care and have fun

I just want to say thanks to hermituda for sending me a canopy. I am grateful for his kindness...and for being able to get some air under this birds wings again. Thanks!

Electric is nice due to unload and fly, but I don't want to spend over 200$ just on esc, motor, lipo's not including plane at this time.... Has anyone put a glow engine in this plane? like a .12-.15 os. I would have a blast fling this plane reguardless. Thank you for you input
Koch.

Greetings,

I did. See my previous posts.

I fly it nearly ever weekend and it does great. Lots of power and it doesn't fly heavy like it once did. Here are some pictures of the finished project.

Best Regards,
The Dude

Dude,

I have an os 32 and tuned pipe...

maybe make a stronger stab and rudder.......

it's actually slightly lighter than the 25....

what do you think?

For years I've been flying very small Lanier Extra 3.25 thats been modified, body lengthened, stab placed further back etc.
It's about the same size as the Lill' Brio.
Mines powered by, wait for it... an Enya .41 4stroke swinging an APC 11.7.
It has, without doubt, the higest power to wieght ratio of any plane I've flown.
You can pull cloud bustin' loops that just keep accellerating!
I wish my 2x2's had this much power.
The extra weight dosen't seem to have effected it at all, it's very friendly and easy to handle.
That Brio would be an ideal model to do a glow conversion to... as ironic as it sounds.

Greetings,

If the 32 is lighter then it should work OK. If your servos are in the tail it will definatly help with the center of gravity. I had to put my battery as far back into the tail as possible to help. I wouldn't worry about building a new tail. As long as you brace the horizontal stab then it will be plenty strong and not worth the work involved. Here are some picts showing battery placement and internal gear layout.

Best Regards,
The Dude

Dude,

nice work and thanks.

I am going to go out and get a new kit. Since I've got spare wings, cowl, canopy - money invested what's a little more.....
