Don't know which way to go? Flew my Brio for the first time today. I am not much on the electric setups so mabey Some could lend a hand. Got a Himax 2816-890 Castle Phoenix 25 esc. 1500ma lipo. 12*6 prop. I put a small sullivan tailwheel and some 1.75 lite wheels on the front hoping to take off in the grass. NOT HAPPINING!! 3 runs across my yard about 350ft not enoughf speed to lift off! What do I do but go to the street to get more speed. That worked!! Flew about 10 min made 3 takeoffs and I guess you could call it 3 landings. More like 2 1/2 in my book. Anyway Battery ran dead on my final turn come down like a lead weight and broke the wing rib that holds wing to the fuse. Got that fixed already but this setup would be considered lack luster to me!! Not near enoughf power!! Well I guess my question would be how much more power could i get from a park 480. I am guessing I probably need a new ESC also. Lets hear it you electric guys! I am having no luck with the electric stuff! Don't make me do like the Dude. I am so close!!!!!!!! By the way Dude I like it....I can see why you done it too at this point!!

GONE2THERIVER - We have a table out at our grass field that me and another pilot have been using to take off from. He has a BL10 andI use the Park 480. Check out our video.. It's a pretty big file so you might want to download it to your hard drive first.

Cool video!! So which one has more power and which one weighs more 480 or bl -10? Still going to be a pricey up grade for me. I know the 480 is like 70 bucks. I don't know about the Bl-10 Or a esc. How long are your flight times? Thanks mystar1

Thanks. The BL10 Brio is heavier and more powerful. It seems to fly almost twice as fast as mine, but he can't slow his down any where close to what I can or it gets rocky. He seems to get about 8 minutes out of his with the 2100. Mine weighs in at 28.5 ounces and I get 6.5 minutes with a 1320. They both fly great! When I can afford another pack I think I'll try a 2100 and see how it goes.

I got on e flites web site and was checking out the bl-10 and the bl15. Down in the bottom of the bl15 ad is some fine print that says that the bl15 is a good match for the brio. Now I am even more confused..

My friend bought his already assembled with the BL10, etc.. on Ebay. I bought mine new and got everything that Quique Somenzini uses in his because I figured he knows what he is doing. I think Horizon Hobby does a lot of switch ups like that. You'll see an ad for something one month and then a month later you see the same thing with different recommended equipment based on whoever the most popular pilot is that month.
From what I've read so far, my experience matches everyone else's with the same setup. I can't slow-roll any other plane as good as I do the Brio, and it'll knife edge off into the sunset if you let it.

Howdy,

Saw a Brio fly at a local Fly-in the other week. It looks like it flew real sweet. I hopped on RCU and searched for Brio & came across this post. A lot of real world information.

I was going to purchase one until I read about all the ppl augering in with this plane. Now I am not so sure. Those of you that have had trouble with the plane, have you figured out the problem? Is it a CG issue or does the prob lie in the design?

I am not a hotshot pattern flyer, just a "Sunday" flier. Looking to step up from the foamies & the Mini Ultra Stick. Maybe I ought to look at other planes? Suggestions?

Thanks for your time...

Hey Gone2theriver,

I read your post and saw where you mention is talks about a Power 15 setup on the Brio 10 on the Horizon site. Curious where this might be as it is incorrect. We have never set one up with that motor and the plane was never intended for that motor at any time.

I can understand your confusing moment when you read that. I want to clarify and tell you that there was absolutely no intention of that being put up and was a total mistake by somebody. Please point me to it so I can correct it before anyone else meets the confusion you have.

I have not been able to find it yet, but am still looking. I could use your help here to fix this if you don't mind.

Thanks,

flew a Brio 10 with the park 480......C of G was at the most forward of the suggested points...this is a very nice flying little model...I was impressed enough to buy one right away. I noticed no tip stall tendencies or any other bad habits. It flew straight and true once I got it trimmed out for the owner. He's a happy camper, and I will own one in the morning. It flies as well as my larger pattern type model, just smaller, and it isn't lacking in the power department .

Rock on! I love my Brio too. Be sure and tape your canopies down though. Other than that you gotta love this plane!

Flew mine this morning....Park 480...3S 1320 cells, 11X7 prop.....I think I have the CG too far forward as it wants to come in a little hot compared to the one I test flew for a friend a couple weeks ago....it's not lacking for power, and seems very safe as far as " tip stall" is concerned..I'm at the forward end of the CG point...I think I'll move it back just a little till I like it.....overall very good, but it is NOT a good beginners or second model....It's a lot quicker to react to stick inputs than my larger " pattern" model, and I can see an inexperienced modeler getting into serious trouble real quick with it. But I still like it.

I agree. The Brio is a responsive little plane.
