Hi all,

I'm currently installing ele and rud servos on my Brio 10, I've noticed some of you install both servos on the tail right in front of the stabs. I'm planning to use the recommanded forward CG at 100mm from leading edge for a more stable flight, should I install the two servos inside the fuselage instead.

Thanks in advance for reply.

Adrian

riot3d,

It depends on what power setup you are using. The lightweight setup needs more weight towards the front so you use the pull-pull rudder with the servo up front. If you're using a BL10 you need a little more tail weight so install the servo to the rear. Whatever helps you get the CG where they recommend.

Thanks.

I'll be using the BL10 with 2,100 mAh battery.

Guys;
If I use the 480 motor with 1800mah packs in the Brio, can I mount my rudder servo in the tail or will that mess up my CG?
Thanks.

kredge540,
I have the 480 (1020kv) and I ahve HS 56's in the tail for both elevator and rudder. With a TP 3S-2100 PL, my pack is about 1" ahead of the wing tube and CG is at 110 mm.

I just switched from a AXI2808/24 to the BL10 and what a blast now..the axi was okkkkk..but now WOW!..11x5.5 prop, and the speed control under the motor mount and the servo in back..CG seems fine! I can move the lipo back and forth to fine tune it..finally this thing rocks..oh the 55 in the rudder took a crap after some extreme tork rolls..56's I guess are in order!

kredge...I have the servos mounted in the tail section...HS55's I use the eflite 480 outrunner and either 1320 3S packs, or...3S 2100 packs....balance is no problem at 104mm from the leading edge, which is where I like it...it's a little too twitchy for my liking at 110 mm, and a little too nosey at 100....make sure you use low rates for the first flights.....lotsa elevator and aileron makes her a little on the tipstally side in low speed turns...I toned down the elevator quite a bit, but I don't fly 3D stuff, just pattern style.\
The bright spot for this model for me is the KE flight..it'll go out of sight on either wing tip with no elevator correction, and only a tad of top rudder...I did have some trim issues with the model as it wanted to pull to it's port side in loops and uplines either upright or inverted till I got it corrected.
almost forgot...get some new wheels for it...the supplied ones are crappola

I don't get it!
I put the bl10 in using a 45 CC control, using apc 11x5.5, 21003c Evo and TP ,tried both and I'm getting 398 watts and 36-38 amps! It's cutting out in the air and I'm stumped as this should be more like 28 amps and 325 watts!
Anybody else get this rating?

I had a similar problem with the park 480 I put in the model....seems the first motor was " punk " my local hobby shop replaced the motor, and things changed drastically for the better...I was pulling way more amps than what it said in the instructions on the first motor, and the second one was pretty much right on. It's also much cooler after a flight.
I have also experienced several bad CC controllers...motor cuts out in flight, try perhaps a new controller too.

thanks for the reply..the speed controller is ok and is rated 45 amps plus peak..Castle nice one..but the set up is identical to others, so I don't get it!

I have the same Brio 10 setup as flyrcjets, except I use the Castle 35-amp controller and an 11-7E prop. The measured max amps was just above 35 amps so I limited it to about 33 amps. With an 11-5.5 prop, your load does seem excessive.

how do you know for sure the speed controller is up to snuff?
perhaps you could try another make or type just to make sure.
If the problem persists with a different speed controller, then the motor would be suspect.
my money is on the speed controller though....Not trying to be a smart @.....just going from my experiences with the speed controller you have....I use the 10 amp CC controller it's bullet proof in smaller applications, but the larger ones have been less than satisfactory for me....same problem you are describing....

Umm I'd say because the speed controller is not responsible for producing the 398 watts, its shutting off BECAUSE of the 36 average to 39 amps PEAK knocking it out. The rating that are normal for this set up and according to eflite also is 338 watts at 30 amps with the same EXACT setup, so I don't understand how the speed control would do this ..a over pitched prop could but doesnt matter I have two and bothn give the same rating and have been used in many planes , the only thing new is the motor and prop!
