Butzy, my 12 1/2 year old Maltese just passed away today. He lived a good and free life, spoiled by all of us. His heart was too weak to carry on and passed away in his sleep. He will forever live in our hearts and memory....

Sorry to hear that Danny. There are many dog lovers on this forum (RCAdmin being one of the most dedicated) however I think you will find more like minded folks on Chazhound or one of the similar dog forums. Do a Google for "dog forums" and you will find many. Post under the "rainbow bridge" topic of any of them to be able to discuss your loss with others going throught the same thing.

This being an RC forum I think it is a bit off topic.

The heck with you, come on B.B., you are a dog boy yourself.....

Kaoma, I feel for you man. I had a flying buddy pass away a few years ago and I got a lot of good words from fellow R/C'ers- including B.B.

Sorry for your loss... if he went to the flying field with you then its RC related. Maybe in time, consider rescuing another dog.

I think thats why he posted in the "Off Topic" forum.

Perfectly legitimate post--and in the right forum IMO.

Loosing a dog is like loosing a member of the family. You can get over it, but you never forget them.

Loosing a cat is a blessing

Actually, it started out in the clubhouse and was moved here.

I didn't know that. I wouldn't necessarily say that a guy couldn't talk about his dead dog out at the field around the clubhouse--but it's not worth arguing over.

I've lost 2 dogs in my life. Call me a coward--couldn't handle another one. Too painful to loose them.

I just lost my black lab Sammy today. He just turned 13 last monday. I stayed with him while the vet put him down. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. He was my first dog, and I know I'll always miss him. Not often, but occasionally I'd take him to the field just to hang out. He loved it there. Plenty of snacks and ear rubs to go around.

Danny, I'm with you man. I hope you're feeling better.

RCpilet, maybe it's too soon, but I may have to quit at one.

Frank

Hey Frank,
Thirteen ain't bad for a Lab, he had a good long life. We had to put one of ours down at ten years old just a few months back. The dog in my avitar was given three months to live by the vet after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, that was over three years ago and he is still going strong. We got another dog because we both work and don't feel they should be left alone to long and boy has she filled a void in our lives.

Give it some time but think about checking the animal shelters and rescue orginizations because there are so many out there that need a good home and give back ten times what we give them.

Thanks BB, I have a niece who is a vet tech, and very involved with shelter animals. I'm sure she'll be calling with candidates. We just need to mourn Sammy for a bit.

I once took Sammy to the flying field, where one of the guys was eating some chicken wings. He gave Sammy a piece of meat, which made them friends for life. Sammy stared at him for some more. The man said, "No more for you, you're a fat dogie!" You need to know that my dog treated everyone as his long lost friend. He only barked when strangers came close to the house. After the club mate called him a fat dogie, Sammy let him have it with a long barking tirade. No teeth or growling, just a tongue lashing. Everyone there laughed, because it really seemed as if he took offense at being called fat. (And he wasn't.)

I suppose thirteen years of memories as that greatly outweigh a few days of pain.

The vet wanted to operate on ours and said with Chemo she might get six more months. My wife wanted to do it and I had to be the bad guy and say no. She never suffered a day in her ten years and I wasn't gonna put her through the pain and discomfort of all that just to make ourselves feel better. It was really hard but my wife now knows we did the right thing by her. It's tough but you gotta know you did the right thing.

We still miss her a lot but our new one is great too. Don't wait to long, there's a dog that needs you too out there.

Sorry to hear of your loss Frank.

I had to have my lab/great dane/rotweiler mix put to sleep when she was 13yrs old. She had a heart attack chasing a frisbee. She was so bad, the vet couldn't even get a vain to pop up enough to overdose her. She just died on the table on her own accord.

She looked up at me and gave a couple tail thumps and then she was gone. I held her for 5 minutes and spent the rest of the day a complete disaster. We buried her at my parents house. The nieghbor came over with a backhoe and put a hole out front. Mom planted some lilac bushes on top of her.

Chloe -- best darn dog I ever knew. Still miss her.

I hope you guys don't mind me bumping this thread up. I finally got a pic of Sammy that I could upload here. Here he is just a couple of months before he passed. We really got lucky getting such a great first dog. Or to paraphrase Tom Petty - we got lucky when he found us!
