I plan to match a 480-33 Kontronik geared motor with a Castle Phoenix 45 ESC. First question, what are the color matches? Red, white, black from the ESC.... mate to Red, blue, green from the motor? Next, it says specifically in the instructions that "the motor wires cannot be soldered". I've got to be reading that incorrectly. How are the male bullet connectors attached if not soldered? If anyone has used these two items together, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, --Tony

hi,

the color of the 3 wires from the motor doesnt matter, hook them up to the 3 wires coming from one side of the phoenix. any combination of the 3 will work, if its running backwards switch ANY 2 of the 3 wires and the motor will reverse direction. as far as the soldering, you will have to solder a matching female connector to the bare end of each of the 3 wires that are coming from the phoenix, so you will then be able to connect the phoenix and motor together.

hi, i just remembered if the motor your talking about doesnt come connectors, you will have to solder the male connectors to the ends also. the manufact. doesnt want the wires cut because they are worried about heat getting to the motor when you solder, but soldering is nessesary for the connectors.

i know what you mean tony, i was the same way when i 1st found this site, and still refer to it for the things i still need help on. oh, also pre-tin those wires before you slide them into the connectors, then apply the heat to the connector not the wire, while you add a tad more solder, when it starts to flow it should bond right away. it will solder without sending as much heat into that motor, so you dont damage that expensive kontronic.

let us all know the progress of your new plane, its always exciting setting one up.

Each of the strands of wire exiting the motor have a special coating which render soldering useless. However the ends of the strands have been cleaned up to accept solder. This cleaning is done chemically and is very difficult to achieve by the regular modeller hence the warning in the manual. So to sum it up, if you need shorter wire between the ESC and the motor, do not cut the motor wires. Use them as supplied.
