INTEGRA -> Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (2/26/2006 8:33:39 PM)

came up with this the other day ...seems to work Great.

drill a hole in the reciver lid for the spring to sit in..then zip tie it to the antenna tube at the base...wrap the spring in electrical tape, (clean hands is a must) then put 1 peice of shrink on the bottom and 1 over laping the bottom 1 right where the body sits ... done deal ...never a ripped antenna again...

requires a 5/16" x 1-3/4" spring stretched out to required length.
large heatshring big enuff to fit over the spring .
electrical tape
zip ties and thats it...

i will do that when i get my new radio. sweet idea!

amec -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (2/27/2006 4:54:36 AM)

Wont the spring interfere with the radio signal?

kurtf5 -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (2/27/2006 4:01:15 PM)

no. The plastic seperates it.

Wizz Kid -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/2/2006 10:01:59 PM)

ok i got the spring and heat shrink. now how exactly does this work?

kurtf5 -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/2/2006 10:18:52 PM)

i dont get why to do it. Just get a wheelie bar or you cant do wheelies anyway because the car just flips over. But with the bar the antenna doesnt even get damaged,[8|]

Wizz Kid -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/2/2006 10:54:07 PM)

if you roll over any other time then your antenna snaps.

Geeza! -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/2/2006 10:56:23 PM)

All my Savages have the antenna tube through the rear screen, i haven't broken one for a very long time[;)]

Wizz Kid -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/2/2006 11:31:22 PM)

my reception was so poor i was hoping this would help if it stuck straight up.

bradley_wrench -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/2/2006 11:56:56 PM)

I dont know about wheelie bars for the savage. especially the HPI one made true to fit the savage. I have one on mine, and the engine i run (LRP .28R Spec2)has so much torque that it just keeps going when it hits the wheelie bar. luckily i havent had to replace an antenna, but i have gone through alot of antenna tubes. Im working on a new design for a wheelie bar, something similar to my designs for the tmaxx and revo. Im just waiting on materials to get here.

Yea but there are other ways to flip a Savage other than wheelies, some of us here do them, they are called JUMPS [:D]
I just re-routed mine out the side window and have had no problems since.

ive rolled my car alot of times and placed it wheels up for maintenance, didnt snap then, it IS bendy plastic after all, its not brittle.

just because you have had good luck with your antenna doesnt meen that every one else has. I myself have gone through 5 antenna tubes now and will probably try this mod.

thanks integra it looks great

INTEGRA -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/3/2006 7:16:23 PM)

well the main problem hasnt been snapping antenna tubes its been wearing away the tube when i flip over and go skidding on the pavement. and it wares away the tube then chuws the the antenna up and the reception gotes to the gutter ...so there for that WHY i have come up with this mod for the fact that i wnna keep my antenna and stop soldering on new wire ever second time i run it on ashphalt....kurt plz keep ur *ssenine comments to urself. THx

kurtf5 -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/3/2006 7:35:59 PM)

lmao i just asked what the point in it was. Woulnt it be sooo much easier if you just wrapped it in electrical tape? [&:]

INTEGRA -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/3/2006 7:46:15 PM)

tape tears wayyyyyy to easy...ud have to use a half of a roll to make it thick enuff to not wear throught in like 2 or 3 roll overs. the heatshrink if quite durable and is easily removable with a swipe of a sharp exacto blade also...and i will agree with Mopar Muscel that the reception is very poor with it facing out the back window. im going to be redoing the antenna later today to ill post detailed pics on how its done exactly.

kurtf5 -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/3/2006 8:02:08 PM)

im sure there are other sorts of tubing that is strong enough to protect the antenna from rolling.

Revo Wrencher -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/3/2006 8:48:00 PM)

Geez man, do you even have any friends kurt? Man posts an awesome idea, and because you were blessed twice with the, "I'm a jerk" gene, you have to question the heck out of it! If you don't like it, just move on! Man, you are a grade A bonehead! I'm shocked these guys haven't punted you off yet!

Great idea, Integra! I think I'll give it a shot as well. I'm just not as lucky as kurt, I guess!

kurtf5 -> RE: Antenna mod for all u wheelie lovin savy owners (3/3/2006 9:23:10 PM)

do you love me? You got my name everywhere i look, man im so glad you dont have my address!
Im just questioning the whole idea, as a different tube would do it alot quicker and easier. But hey the spring thing looks ok aswell.
So how about shutting up before writing pointless mess yea?
