I think the big factor here, is that these engines are the first engines that are priced to give those of us with nitro experience a reason to try gasoline. What does that mean??? Adam gets a lot of ignorant people to contend with.(I am not referring to ignorant in a bad way, perhaps inexperienced is a better word.) The beauty is that Adam is patiently working with all of us newbies. What does that mean??? Adam runs a real good chance of building a clientel that will stick with him for years to come. Thanks Adam!!!

After reading all of this...can anyone tell me why get a BCMA 26 when you can get a Zenoah G26 from RCIGN and fly instead of mess around with the BCMA engine? Capt,n

I saw your post last night, Cap'n...and decided to mull it over for a bit before responding.

I see, however, several have beten me to it.

So, I can only echo what's been said here...Service, price, and performance.

My SPE-40, once run in for 30-40 flights, REALLY began to shine, and flew my GP 25% Yak exceptionally well in all regimes. Only TWICE, and those the fault of a poorly designed fuel system (my own fault, in other words) did it EVER deadstick on me. At ~ $300 to your door, firewall-ready, it's the same cost as an OS 1.60, and provides SIGNIFICANTLY more power.

And finally...service.

Forget "within this industry"...Adam works out of a book on service that few in ANY industry seem to have read. Adam understands that the decision to grant him our custom represents a significant commitment of more than just money. We are entrusting our airplanes, our enjoyment of the hobby, and indeed our most valuable resource...our TIME...to him and his product. Adam provides the kind of service that makes that decision a wise one.

Look back through this thread. You will not find a SINGLE incident of ANYONE saying "Man, this engine isn't worth the money, I'm not buying another one." And keep in mind..this IS the net after all, where the lot of us are EXTREMELY willing to say just that about a product...in public...and move on to another supplier.

Yes, you'll find people who've had problems. And you'll also find those same people saying "Ah, problem fixed this way, engine's good now." Yes, you'll find people whose engines aren't performing correctly...note how those people follow up with "I talked with Adam, and _____ is being done."

Now, clearly, one could very easily send a Zenoah to RCIGN1, and have him perform his magic on it. (In fact, I'm DOING so next week). Zenoahs have a superb reputation for reliability, and RCIGN1 has a superb reputation as well. (Otherwise I wouldn't be sending him my G-62...I'd be on the phone with Adam begging him to build be a 60cc class engine ) So, I certainly won't suggest that BCMA is the "only" option, or that other options don't have equally significant features to reccomend them.

But I will say this:

Adam and his engines EARN your business...and that, cap'n, is rare enough in this world.

John,

Do me a favor and take a good look through all of the forms you can. You will find MANY cases of people having trouble getting thier G26 to run correctly. Many cases of people having trouble getting DA, BME, MVVS, Evolution, and all the rest to run correctly. No engine out there is 100% trouble free. The less expensive gas engines like Adam and I sell are more likly to attract less experienced gassers. That alone leads to more trouble. No one has the instinctive knowledge of how to tune and operate a gas engine. We all have to learn. Simple things like oil type and mix can make a huge difference.. How fresh the gas is. Filters. Many other variables. The thing that seperates companies like Adams and my own, is service. There is no one out there that will give better service than we do. No one. That is worth a lot to most modelers. Also, you have to take into account the huge numbers of engines Adam has sold and the relitivly few problems reported here. I would say he is doing pretty darn good

Scott

And THAT coming from Adam's competition at Brillelli model aircraft engines. =)

Pat,

What type and size prop are you using on your 40?

Thanks,

Speedbird,
I have the BCMA 40 and I am using an APC 18X10 Prop. I used a 17x8 APC for a while since that was all my local hobby shop had, and the 18x10 is producing way more thrust. I have about 2 gallons through it and it Idles at 1850 rpm and tops out at 7500rpm on the ground and probably a bit more in the air! I just fit it to my Giant big stick and will fly it tomorrow hopefully. In my backyard I held it up and it was hovering that 13.5lb bird at 1/2 throttle!

Speedbird- I'm using an APC 20X8. I've also used a TopFlite Powerpoint 20X6-10 wood prop, but the APC is noticeably stronger, although louder as well. I'm not even nearly broken-in completely on either engine, but I'm already very satisfied with the power output. The 40cc is producing significantly more power than the SuperTigre G3250 (32.5cc glow) that I had in the Extra 330 before.

Thanks guys. I have the 40 also, I am two turns out on the high and the low using a 20 x 6 zinger. I am getting around 7650 on the rpms with an idle around 2000. I will let you know on how it goes.

Here is an interesting HP and Thrust Calculator I found.

http://www.bmaps.net/software/thrusthpv20d.zip

When I put in my numbers on this I get around 4.13 HP.
Intersting.

I have one customer that is using a Xoar 21X8 and turning it at 6990 rpm and pulling 20lbs-11oz of thrust measured by a berkly digital fish scale.

Back to my post on page 9....I was talking 26 verses 26. POST on page 9= After reading all of this...can anyone tell me why get a BCMA 26 when you can get a Zenoah G26 from RCIGN and fly instead of mess around with the 26 BCMA engine? The BMCA 40 looks like a real winner. May get one myself! Capt,n

I can tell you why I went with the BCMA 26 over the Zenoah after several E- mails and forum questions all of my questions were answered in a timely manner no matter how dumb . reputation and personal relationships are few and far between when you find a company that serves its customers well thats where I spend my $ simple as that Adams service is well documented in this forum as well as others after receiving my motor well it speaks for its self very clean. thanks Adam you will have my business in the future

Captinjohn - I have had no problems with my BCMA 26, period. It started up the first try, I did some fuel mixture adjustments, and maidened my airplane with it a few minutes later. I'm breaking it in as I'm flying the new plane. It is compact for a gas engine, it's quite lightweight, and it's plenty powerful. I am VERY IMPRESSED with it.

Zenoah engines are heavier, not as powerful, and cost more.

That break it down for you?

-Pat
