As an unsolicited endorsement I would like to compliment Adam on a great product. He built up a Homelite 49.5 for me and I am extremely pleased with the engine, It is a real powerhouse! I was hoping to get it airborne but some health problems have delayed that for a while. (Getting old is a real drag!!) I did get to run it and was amazed at the brute power available! Didn't get a chance to tach it as my nurse (read "wife" chased me back to bed, but hopefully I will be up and around by the time the weather turns flyable.

I hope you get feeling better soon, Phil. I'd like to read about how that engine flies your model.

SPE40 gas enging are able to fly Giant GeeBee Y plane like this one . 97'wingspen, takeoff weigh are over 20lb , use 22-8 bolly CF prop turn over 7000RPM on the ground . the satastic thrust are about the same weigh as the plane has. you can find this plane at thiefaircraft.com or winnerrc.com

SPE40 gas engine & 27% GeeBee Y

Adam

Can the spe 26 mount the prop with single bolt or have to go with 6 bolts?

You can do either. The main prop bolt is very substantial in size at 10mm but If you wish you can drill your prop for a 6 bolt mount set up. For those of you who may have a hard time beliving how small and light this engine is check out the photos below. The photos are my BCMA 26 and a brand new Saito 125 four cycle glow engine. They are pretty close to each other in physical size. My engine on the left weighs 38 oz. (with ignition) and the Saito 125 weighs (32 oz). My engine has a built in engine mount but you would need a mount for the Saito 125 so that would add another 4 ounces at least so in reality there is only 2 ounces or less difference between the two engines. Plus you will have a torque advantage of the larger displacement gasoline engine all the benifits of running gas. This engine is amazing!

Hi Ed,
Thanks for the well wishes, they are appreciated.
My G-Shark had about 200 flights with a US41 that I had installed a Walbro carb from a Quadra 52 and a Bennett muffler. Very impressive performance but not a 3D candidate.
I tried a Quadra 52 with EI and was not much better. I hope the BCMA 49.5 will stir things up a bit! Just a matter of fitting it in.

Keep posting! I enjoy your comments.

Phil

Hi Adam

That looks impressive. Is that 38oz of SPE26 include muffler? What is the Saito 125 weight with muffler. I believe you are refering to Saito 120 right because 125 is listed at about 25-26oz at Horizon site. At any rate, I'm torn between the SPE26 and Brilleli 25GT.

Can you give us more picture of the 6mm prop mount vs the 6 bolt mount? Judging from the picture, you mean I can use a single 6mm bolt or couple with other 6 smaller bolt? Wouldn't the single 6mm bolt a bit too small?

Sorry, I'm a noob in gasser. The Roto or G26 etc are all using 8mm bolt for the prop.

Read BB post again. He said that the main prop bolt was a " substantial 10 mm."

It was when we were in Toledo that Adam took the picture of the 26 next to the Saito 125. We weighed both engines there with my postal scale, so the weights he is giving are correct. Both engines were weighed RTF with mufflers and all. It is hard to beat the SPE 26 for weight.

These engines have a 10mm prop bolt, not a 6mm. The BCMA 26 and BCMA40 share the same size prop bolt as what Fuji uses for the 64cc engine. The reason for this is to make it much more resistant to modlers stripping out the prop hub threads. The prop hub is designed and provisioned for the ability to use 6 small metric cab bolts to be used to eliminate any possiblity for prop slippage. I think doing this is way over kill for this size of engine. The main prop bolt is more than adequate for securing the hub. One of the next changes will be drilling this main bolt and tapping it for 10-32 threads for easy Aluminum spinner installation.

Comparing installation weight between my BCMA26 and a Saito 125, there is hardly any difference with the Saito being about 2 ounces lighter which is negligible, but the BCMA26 will have a substantial power advantage over the glow 4 cycle engine.

Do not discount the Brillelli 26cc engine. This is a fine engine as well and an extrordinary value. I have helped build these engines with Scott and there is a lot of fine detail work that he does to squeeze more power out of these engines. He spends a lot of time on each engine and they are meticulously inspected and tested before they are shipped out.

Adam

I am glad to see you got those pictures of the SPE-26 and the Saito 125. I could hard;y believe the small size of SPE-26 and when you put it alongside the Saito that really made it for me. I have e-mail you a couple of time and I was wondering if you received them? I am really looking forward to putting that SPE-26 on the Super Chipmunk I got at the Toledo RC show with you. I bet you are as busy as Scott right now so get back with me when you can

Thanks

As far as prop mount bolts, I have decided for my application (in my extreme flight yak), to use the main 10mm bolt and only two of the smaller bolts in the 12 O'clock and 6 O'clock positions. That way, I am getting extra rotational strength without using all the bolts.
