MKSUB,

Yes, go for a brushless. I use the 430L and a Align or Phoenix 35Amp ESC.

Then you can run lipo's with it and the lipo will not burn out the motor.

Vega,

Have you tried sliding the blade grips on your tail rotor out a little further on the shaft?

yertel,

I have the Walkera head on my Walkera and the Trex head on my Trex.

The walkera will never fly like a Trex so I would not put more than the walkera upgrades on it.

Vega, I was desperate for ideas like you.... I laid the original blade on on a piece of cardboard and traced a wider blade onto it, but not too much longer cos of ground clearance, and traced the bolt end accurately. Drill the fixing hole, then cut the new blade shape out of the cardboard and trace around it 2 of the new profiles onto some scrap 3mm plastic which I had handy. It can be flat, & doesn't need to be a nice curved section. It's about 15 mins work! Try using 3mm balsa if you like, but reinforce the hole area with glue.
It's worth a try! It doesn't explain why we need to do it, but it got me back in the air. Maybe when I do a brushless upgrade I'll revert back to standard blades & see if they are sufficient.

Afterthoughts on above....If you have a jigsaw, you could use 3mm ply, and shape it really well too.
I should have done a movie of it turning left in spite of full right rudder, using all the travel on the shaft giving heaps of pitch on the smaller blades!
Yet others do not need to go to such lengths....

Also, another annoying thing is that I have never found a lipo battery that fits the #60! Always too big in one or 2 directions! Even the original NiMhs didn't fit from new!

Oilyamps,
Thanks for the advice. A friend actually suggested getting some T-Rex 450 tail blades and putting them on the 60, since they're slightly larger and should be compatible. I guess it is worth a try.

Consult,
I haven't been able to move the tail rotor blade holder out further. I actually tried doing that even before you suggested it, but there's a single hex screw that must be pretty severely thread-locked. I tried loosening it, but it won't budge even under a lot of force. Is this what I need to do to move it out? I was looking at soneebee's diagrams he posted a while ago and it looks like I had the right idea.

The grub screw on my tail shaft was very tight, and made a distinct "click" when I undid it to try changing that distance. Try heating it with a lighter flame carefully, or a hair dryer, but wrap the blades to protect them. Replace any oil after!

Ahh, good to know. I was bending my hex wrench about 90 degrees upon itself trying to loosen it. I'll try heating it next time to maybe loosen some of the thread-locker. I guess I have to remove that screw to install the T-Rex/custom-built tail rotor anyways.

I just got a pitch gauge in the mail, and that thing is amazingly useful. I'm glad I got it. I was setting up my pitch curves with a simple protractor before, with markings every 5 degrees. Probably why my blade tracking was bad...

Oily,

I've not posted on this forum for a long time. I'm a beginner on a restricted budget and other things have been getting in the way. Anyway, I think the ThunderPower TP2100-3S is the perfect LiPo for the #60 - great quality and fits comfortably in the frame...

Now all I need is time to fly and a governor mode ESC - I want to calibrate and set my RPM once and for all so it may be time to ditch the otherwise great ElfHobby ESC.

Cheers, BB.
