Helitroy,

The gold is the new improved improved motor.

I would not replace the servo's. I would just keep the ones that come with the DX6 as backups.

If the esc works I would just leave it as is.

The DX6 doesnt really have an antenna, so the whip wouldnt matter.

Hey,

I'm a total newbie. I read all the advice about avoiding Walkera. Just received my Walkera #60 - my first heli and all I could afford. Clearly not really RTF though, but for the money I can't complain!

So far I have straightened boom support, adjusted all linkages (they were all out), tidied wires (away from sharp metal chassis edges) etc.. I adjusted the blade pitch and tracking too but had a lot of vibration (lashed to a stool for testing). Removed main blades and still some vibration at some low rpms. Found the flybar to be off centre and a bit bent. No fly bar, no vibes. Straightend and re-centred flybar, re-fitted paddles: no vibrations at any rpm now. All flight controls looking good, little interaction, no glitches so far (at point blank range anyway). So, ready to think about refitting the main blades to test again, and putting in some sim practice...

Can anyone help on a few points:
(1) Should I balance the main blades for mass and CofG, and if so how?
(2) Do the same sim leads sold for #4,5 and #36 etc also work with the new #60 7chan TX (PPJOY/FMS)?
(3) I want the cyclic on one stick, asked for Mode 2 but got Mode 1. Has anyone converted this TX from Mode 1 to Mode 2, or does eCCPM 120° complicate all this?
(4) My model came with 6ch RX607, not the 7ch RX701 shown in the manual. WK-G006 gyro doesn't have a gain input so does this matter? What do others have?
(5) Pitch range seemed way too small so I turned it up somewhat. I am sure I saw reference to a DIY pitch guide but I can't find it again - can anyone help?
(6) Where can I get a Spektrum DX6 so cheap the wife won't notice the extra spend - the downside to such informative forums is you just need...

Thanks,

B.

Hi JD,

I recently purchased a Walkera 60 and have been reading your conversations with Argos about this model helicopter, and having found that the operators manaul is very deficient, I am in need of assistance. Funny how the manual shows you how to fly inverted, but not where or how to mount the battery pack!

I have many questions but will try to be concise and hope you (or anyone else) can answer them:

1) One of the rear rotor blades came loose from the factory and will not tighten. Did the model come from the factory stripped or is the blade meant to be loose? How tight should the rear and main rotors be?
2) I too have experienced unexpected and severe, "glitching" by the servos. I have a standard brush motor and ESC. Is the solution to this problem to replace the receiver or the ESC or something else?
3) Both the main rotor and tail rotors seem to be off balance. Can gyro adjustments address these problems and if not how do I get the rotors balanced?
4) Where do you suggest ordering spare parts for the Dragonfly 60 (blades, brushless motors, esc's and lito batteries)?

Any advise you have would be greatly appreciated!!

(1) Should I balance the main blades for mass and CofG, and if so how?

They should be okay, but without a balancer some people slide them off and edge and see if the fall off at the same time. Really

(2) Do the same sim leads sold for #4,5 and #36 etc also work with the new #60 7chan TX (PPJOY/FMS)?

I dont know

(3) I want the cyclic on one stick, asked for Mode 2 but got Mode 1. Has anyone converted this TX from Mode 1 to Mode 2, or does eCCPM 120° complicate all this?

Tell them and get them to send you the correct TX. The new tx cannot be switched but maybe the 6 channel can be if you want to keep it.

(4) My model came with 6ch RX607, not the 7ch RX701 shown in the manual. WK-G006 gyro doesn't have a gain input so does this matter? What do others have?

Ours do not have gain wire from gyro either, we have to set it manually.

(5) Pitch range seemed way too small so I turned it up somewhat. I am sure I saw reference to a DIY pitch guide but I can't find it again - can anyone help?

Do you have a pitch gauge? moving the linkage to the hole furthest out on the servo arm will increase the throw. But best to adjust the pitch curve first. Too much pitch and not enough motor wont work.

Good head speed and a little pitch is better.

(6) Where can I get a Spektrum DX6 so cheap the wife won't notice the extra spend - the downside to such informative forums is you just need...

Good question.

Thanks,

B.

do you have your training gear on?
Have fun B.

scooter,

) One of the rear rotor blades came loose from the factory and will not tighten. Did the model come from the factory stripped or is the blade meant to be loose? How tight should the rear and main rotors be?

It probably came stripped. But they should just be tight enough to hold themselves straight where a little touch and they would move.
but when you tilt the heli, the mains shouldnt fall at your arms. The Idea is that they should be loose enough so when they spin up they can pull themselves straight. I don't like them sloppy loose just barely tight is better. Use CA on the back side of the tail rotor blade screw to hold it loose if you need to.

2) I too have experienced unexpected and severe, "glitching" by the servos. I have a standard brush motor and ESC. Is the solution to this problem to replace the receiver or the ESC or something else?

A few of us have had it stay pretty good indoors real close to us. Most of us are experienceing glitching. There are trick you could try, like twisting the servo wires and other wires together and wrapping them in foil. You could try a ferrite ring on the ESC wire to the TX. You could make sure the antenna is aimed out away from the frame. I don't know how it would work. I didnt try it. I just bought a DX6 TX/RX set for $200 and now I dont have glitching. but you could screw around with the wires and foil and routing all wires away from the side with the antenna. lets us know if you try it and what happens, bench test first I guess.

3) Both the main rotor and tail rotors seem to be off balance. Can gyro adjustments address these problems and if not how do I get the rotors balanced?
Not sure what you mean? pulls the heli off center? If so, adj trims first, you may need to adjust them back if it wont hover stable. Lifting off and hovering require different settings because of the wash near the ground. but try to trim it out and get up a few inches.

4) Where do you suggest ordering spare parts for the Dragonfly 60 (blades, brushless motors, esc's and lito batteries)?

I suggest RCandMe.com

Any advise you have would be greatly appreciated!!

Put on training gear , get in an open space and click up a notch till you lift off then straight back down. noting the way it moves then trim, and finally as you see where it moves in that half a second be ready for it and counter act it as you throttle up. so if it is going left hold the stick to the right a little then jump up for a half a second. you'll be able to keep increasing your hops but the more chances you take the more damage you will do. spend a couple days just jumping it for a sec . comming back down from an inch up you cant get hurt much, but remember as you up the throttle to try getting it close to lift

off but not lifting off work the left stick to get the fell of it.

good luck
JD

JD,
This forum seems to be attracting a lot of attention! I have been so busy working I havent had any time to make posts, forgive me. Ok my new radio arrives tomorrow.

I ordered the gy401, but did not get a digital servo, I read the manual and it supports digital and regular.(recommends digital).

I ordered the Phoneix 35amp controller and the programmer. The sport and 3d mode on the DX6 should take place of the normal and mode 2 on the current Walkera TX.

Lastly, I can hover all over my living room without much problems with the glitching, but seems to glitch quite a bit once taken outside. Decided to buy the DX6 and save the heli. LOL.

New news I ordered a Trex XL SE. Totally blinged out! So I will have a second chopper to play with, my Walkera for practice.

MINE IS THE LITTLE ONE>>>>>LOL

Thanks JD,

I tried edge of a table balancing - blades not me. They were about 1.5 mm out. I added a couple of inches of inch wide PVC tape to the lighter tip and they now topple together. But maybe one is now heavier overall - should I have added the tape nearer to the holder on the other blade, or half and half etc. Is this the ballpark amount of tape that you guys might expect? I guess I'll refit and check for vibes?

Found a sim lead selling for £5.49 so I'll just try it.

I did tell the selller about wrong mode TX. It is a 7 channel TX (WK-701) in mode 1. He said he'd try to find out TX conversion instructions - I'm waiting. With my hunch about CCPM and your answer I've now asked him to add a TX to the list of things to replace (new i.s.o used brushless motor with worn 10T pinion, main blades to replace originally chipped ones, genuine Walkera 1800mA LiPo instead of unrated ?C fullriver item, aerial tube to replace the broken one).

I also asked seller to confirm if in fact I should have 7 channel RX701 (as manual), but does everyone else have the RX607 anyway?

As for pitch, no I have no guage other than my eyes - that was the second part of my question - but I reckon initially it made about +1° to +4° and swashplate was nowhere near level. I adjusted the three links to get the swashplate level and now I have increased the pitch range using DIP switch 10 and V2 on the TX. I think the maximum full throttle collective I can get now, before big cyclic inputs added to big collective inputs cause a servo to top out (=pretty severe interaction) is probably still <10°. So, for extreme flying I might need to move the linkages to the outer hole on the horns, but I think pitch now is probably something like -2° to 10° (or +/- 10° 3D mode). More like it or would you suggest I turn pitch range down a bit to start with?

DIY pitch guage, where did I see that PDF file, and why didn't I grab a copy?! I really want to find that now I actually own a heli.

> do you have your training gear on?

No, I still have it lashed to a stool weighing in a good half a stone or so. Haven't lifted off with that attached... Seriously, I will attach training gear before ever powering the thing up untethered, but that could be some weeks away. Firstly I really do not want to learn heli fliying with the cyclic split across two sticks, and secondly when I do have a mode 2 TX I think I will sim for a little while first. This is all a little more scary than my electric 1/10th scale car, and I've had that on its roof from time to time.

Thanks,

B.

argos,

It looks sweet do you have it or is that just a picture of one like it?

I've got two Gy401's and the digital servos, incredible. you can live without it but they are dead rock solid.

Here are some pictures of my new TREX, I just have to put on the gyro, tail servo, RX and blades. about 20 minutes and I could be done. Fully carbon frame and stabilizers, direct linkage setup, alum swashplate, align motor and exlectronics except the radio is DX6.

I took a picture of the new TREX with some of his fellow helis
my showgun, a walkera 60, a NR3D and Walkera 22E in the back with carbon blades
