Build in blue foam not balsa. Cover in brown paper. Cheaper quicker and much easier to repair.

I would not advise a 109 as a first combat model as it will tip stall and is difficult to get away on launch.

Here is a link that will get you started. http://home.att.net/~daniel.steill/

UK kit supplier of blue foam models Mainly Models Hitchin http://www.mainlymodels.com/ OUR RANGE

Best first model Hurricane for a 15/20 engine and Hellcat for a 25.

PM me if you want more info. I have been flying 1/12 scale combat for some years now.

Zack,
Have you met any of the guys in your area if you intend to fly combat with the plane? It's always worthwhile to find out what the others in the area are doing.

In general, balsa structure for a combat plane is a really bad idea. One mid-air, and it will be the end of your plane.

A good foam with tape covering plane can fly through multiple mid-airs and keep going. And yes, you can paint over tape just fine. It's the lightest and strongest covering method I've seen anywhere.

well thanks for the advice {plans would have been better}

I forgot to mention that when I wanted plans I am going to be pylon raceing it. so it donsent need to be bullet proof.
about the hand launcing problem I was going to put retracts in it with carbon renforcement

tip stalling is a learners mistake and I already got that lesson with a t6 and two much throws on elevator and alerons
