sounds good on power to weight, what about wing loading at 15-16, does it show any bad tendancies? like if you come out of a loop slow and give too much ele at the bottom, will it snap? with some of my smaller glow planes i have had when the weight gets near the top or just above what they reccommend, thats when i notice things like that, or excessive wing rock in a harrier, or at least harder to find the "sweet" spot in a harrier, any things like that? i will say i had a smaller yak from another company and it was a bit heavy and did snap when it shouldnt, but i learned to deal with it and it was still one of my favorite planes to fly, but curious what you'll say about this one

IF you put in too much elevator any aerobatic plane will snap out. The question is "how much is too much?".

The lighter the wing loading the less tendency to snap, but airfoil also has a dramatic effect on this.

i gotcha... so how is this particular plane at 15lbs or so? too much snap? thats what i kinda want to know, is the tail airfoiled? i'm guessing it is, i am at 5000' also, so that makes them snap more often than lower alt i think, i just dont want to end up with a "snap-rolling-fool" kinda plane ya know, i dont need a floater either, 25-30oz wing loading would be nice, 35 or hingher probably could get tricky at times right?

i do see this one has more wing area than gp 81", a guy in my club has one of those, it looks nice and seems to float in fairly nice with a 3.2 engine, i wont buy one of those though, this wh yak looks tons better imo

Hey diamondave

I have one of the yaks.I don't no much about 3D or setting up a plane, i have been teaching myself with help from books, video and the wild hare guys.
So if i tell you, you really have to push the yak hard to get it to snap out so it must be very forgiving.I have learned harriers with the plane and elevators come straight down.it also does a pretty easy wall and parachute.I'm no expert but all those maneuvers needs a plane that's not snap happy, and remember i just learn all these on this yak and have not killed her as of yet.
She is also very easy to land i can cut the power and float in, feels a little a like a large trainer.

diamondave:
Mi plane weights 15.25 pounds, i have Futaba 9153 servos all around and these weight 3 Onz each. two NiMh batts for servos and one for ignition. My wing loading is at 29.776 Onz/sq. F. and if I take it high for a stall test, the plane does not want to fall out.
I fly sportsman, and I have about 65 flights on myne... I have yet to see this plane fall out into a snap or stall accidentally in a maneuver. Landings are as slow as you can want them. A very stable plane. No bad tendencies at all.

Might be off topic a little bit, but I have a blue yak and I was hoping someone could tell me what type of covering this is. And what the actual colors of the blue, red and white are? Yes I need some covering, engine quit and when it went down dead brush poked a few holes in it.

Hi,

I know, this topic belongs to the Giles G 202, but the snapping is an issue for many types of planes.

Now, after flying my WH Giles G202 almost a year, I've healed this snap out for nearly 80%. I ballanced the centerline with a 60 gram weight at the tip of the left wing. Now the snap out is only then, when I don't give full throw on the elevator. To kill the last 20%, I will add more 20 gram of lead on the left wing. The season has just begun, so that I will tell you more about the improvements about snapping.
I had to change the motor. Now the 3W 80Xi is working on the dome (KS 95 V4, 17 cm header recommended, 1" diameter). I'm very expressed about the power and rpm, much more than a ZDZ 80RV.

To silversurfer:
The carbon gear, as a replacement on my Giles (I told about) is still working well after a full season with sometimes hard landings! I can recommend it! Besides: it saves 350 gram!

For those of you who were asking about mounting the rudder servo in the tail, I have posted some pictures showing the setup I made from 1/8" aluminum flat stock mounted to the bottom of the rudder. It was an easy setup and works great. The push rods do not interfere with the moving surfaces during the full range of elevator and rudder deflection. I also think it looks better than the rudder wires running above the elevators. Balancing was made easier with this setup.
