I agree, that will restrict air intake. This is why on most of our planes we set it up to use the 3" standoffs so the carb will have breathing room.

Drill a big hole.

Here's some of my build progress. Sorry things have been slower than I had hoped. Life gets in the way sometimes.

Here's the engine and throttle/Choke system layout. I mounted the servos pretty far back in an effort to move as much wieght aft as I can. The muffler I am using is a Slimline smoke muffler but I removed the smoke system, again to help cut some wieght.

Here's the last of the fuel line layout. I still have to install the suction/vent line. I need to pick up some Tygon to get the job done.

Ken or Anybody,

I too used the 2.5 inch stand off for the DA. I opened the hole up in the firewall but I noticed in your pics (post 79) that you also have a hole on the top of the motor box. What is the purpose of that hole? Do I need to do the same for mine?

Thanks

A newbie

Chuck

The purpose of that hole (which I made) was to allow for me to run my ignition battery lead and my refuel line through. The reason its so big is because that was the smallest hole saw I had.

BTW, I test balanced my plane and it looks like I will not need to add any wieght to get it to balance with the DA50. Moving the throttle and choke servos as far aft are a big help.

Looks like I will be flying it tomarrow. I will get final assembly pictures out at the field in the morning. I need to do a vibration/range test run and then that will be it. Wish me luck.

Note the blue tube in the turtle deck....the antenna runs inside of it. I did this on my edge 540...and doesn't exit the fuse at all.

Very clean and neat setup. I think you should get more than enough throw with those servo arms!!
