....get owned:

This is a friend of mine's 98 Camaro SS (LS1). He fabbed up the 76mm turbo kit himself. The engine is factory-stock (non forged bottom end) with 85,000 miles on it. Check out this video I shot of his stock longblock on the dyno at PAS in Richmond a few saturdays ago.

Go see for yourself how much rear-wheel, not flywheel HP is made with an LS1 and a measly 11psi with pump gas. His license plates say RICE ETR.

Have a look at this then (not quite standard car but certainly more affordable than others)

http://www.tigerracing.com/cars/tiger-z100-main.php

The best things
1) This thing only costs £40,000 GBP or $75,000 USD (compare it to something of a simular performance)
2) On UK tv this car thrashed round a test track beating everything including mclarean f1, bmw`s, audi`s, farrari`s plus a few muscle cars and big block V12s and every car they could get to come onto the shows (it made an appearence on 2 shows and came top on both)
3) Its had new engines and been lightened since it recorded a 0-60 of 2.9sec and at that time took the world record using carbs, no nitrous or performanced enhanced fuel and in an ordinary road tuned road legal state.
4) They are made behind a chineese resturant!!!! (they do good food as well)
5) It runs on 15`s
6) Total enfgine capacity is only 1976cc but pushes out big BHP
7) Its made in the UK

Only downside is that i cant afford one

reliability, resale values, technology, repair costs, dependability, parts availability... i could go on and on.

I have only owned ONE american vehicle that I have had mechanical problems with. But every import we have had, most repairs weren't worth the money, let alone spending it on the car to keep it running.

I'm a mechanic, I stick to what I love.

If you ask me american car companys are years behind imported car companies when it comes to technology. American cars dont have much class and most of their styling is really ugly. Also you mentioned reliability? American cars were the only cars that put me and my family on the side of the road. Now my parents made/will make a permanent switch to imports and my Dad is soon to get rid of his Pontiac Bonneville for a nice Lexus LS. Im not even going to get started with the previous cars they owned from a Chrysler LeBaron to a Ford Mustang. The Bonneville has air leaking directly from the rim which has to be sealed quite often (all the times I had to pump air in it), there was a problem with the electrical system a while back, faulty fuel injector around 45k also bad coils and misfiring at 60k, I mean my Nissan Maxima has twice the amount of mileage (120550) on it and it never had a problem except once the battery went out on me. Plus I drive it pretty hard. Oh well I guess we just have bad luck with domestic cars and their reliability.

for everyday driving, i'd go with an import, for drag strip, or for reacing, muscle. For offroading, toyota all the way
