What is the input voltage tolorance of the Optic 6? I know a lot of guys are starting to use 3C LiPos in their transmitters to greatly increase battery life. Some places are even making slightly slimmer packs to fit in the battery bay.

Thanks,
Farmer

A 3 cell Lipo's voltage is fine for our radios but since we do not offer it in that configuration, it would technically void your warranty.

Mike.

hi Mike,

thanks for the quick reply! Does Hitec have any plans on offering such an option? since 3S lipo batteries aren't much more expensive than an official NiCd battery. And I know to charge the battery with a LiPo charger OUTSIDE the tx!

Thanks again,
Ryan

Why bother with Lipos in your transmitter?

You can get NiMH packs with just as much capacity, for less money, and without the fire danger and inconvenience of having to remove them to recharge.

The other problem with LiPos is that they're so light they can change the balance of your transmitter and make it "top-heavy". Most manufacturers take the battery weight into account when designing the case so as to provide a balanced package with the antenna extended.

I've heard people say that they don't like the high self-discharge rate of NiMH cells but this has *never* been a problem with my E7 or O6. Sometimes I don't fly for four or five weeks and there's still more than enough charge left in my transmitters for a full day's (3-4hrs) flying without any problems.

No, but we will be switching to NiMh in the future.

Mike.
