Since mAh are mAh, is there some reason why the powerflite batteries would provide more flying time than Nimh on the same plane?

I have heard people comment on getting more flights than they did with either Nicd or Nimh, but I don't understand how that is so.

Would you please explain?

Thanks

If you paid as much per mAh you would also brag about how much more time you got from them.

Now for the serious answer.
Lithium cells by nature have a more slopping discharge curve and their remaining capacity can be much more easily calculated from the voltage reading than can Ni-Cd or Ni-MH so they can run them closer to the edge.

Basically, longer time between charges comes down to our 7.2 volt batteries being regulated down to 4.8V ~ 6V.

Think of it as a "reserve fuel tank" for an RC battery system. RC planes run 4.8V ~ 6V electronics. A regulated 7.2V PowerfLite battery has 1.2V ~ 2.4V on "stand by".

Not only will this lead to longer times between needed chargers, but the user could see additional performance in his aircraft. I am not saying PowerfLite Batteries will make you a better pilot What I am saying is that during hard core maneuvers, where a lot of stress is put on the plane's servos, there should not be a drop in the voltage where it counts ... at the servo.
