Thanks, John. Six turns out seemed like an awful lot to me, but I did have to lean the idle just slightly. I was afraid I'd cut the pump back too far but the engine still runs strong when I hold the airplane vertical.
I'll fiddle with it some more.

Just maidened my Venus II this evening.  This plane lives up to all the hype.  Smooth and neutral are two terms that come to mind in describing it's traits.  I'm impressed.  this is my first pattern plane so maybe they're all like this, but wow, I'm going to like flying this this season.  My goal is to practice and eventually compete in pattern with this plane.  It's a fresh change from the 3D stuff I mainly fly.  Can't beleive how true knife edge is and this is flying with an engine slobbery rich due to breakin, no cowl, and nothing really dialed in!  I also made the best and slowest rolls I've ever done...on the maiden flight!!  I like.  I'm running an OS120ax.  So far it's got 6 flights on it and runs like a champ.  Oh yeah, landing was cake.  I'm not used to landing a plane that just glides in so nicely.  No tip stalls, nothing, just steer it in.  My CG is at 6.5 inches.  I'm gonna finish breaking in the engine then mount the cowl.  Then move the tank back to the CG since I am changing elevator trim towards the end of the flight.  I have a perry pump for this.

Has anyone tried the tank at CG without a pump, just the stock muffler-pressure setup?

 Thats my question as well.

i put a tank on the CG for a OS 120 AX without pump on a Funtana X100.  It flew pretty well until one day...it  died on climbout and crashed.  I fixed it and put the tank back to the recommended area and had no more issues.  I would recommend not doing that.

On another note, I need a swift kicki in the butt to get back on my Venus II to finish it!

Chuck,
I have been flying my new Yak, with a sweet new YS 110 and the fastest servos I have seen so far. It is really, really nice and I have a lot of fun flying it.

The more I fly my Yak, the more I wish I was flying my Venus - it is such a sweet plane, and you KNOW you will take off, make your initial turn, and say "ahh, I like this plane!"

GET BACK TO FINISHING YOUR VENUS!!!

I have a Venus 2 which I changed the apperance to amuse myself and to get groans from others with no sence of humor.. Pilot has a black eye and blood comming from his nose. "Bullet hole" in canopy close to his head. Other "bullet holes" along the fusalage with flames exiting the fusealage. Cowl is painted yellow and has a large oil stain underneath. Wings have flourescent pink french curves top and bottom.  Name has been changed. Removed the "V" susituted "P"
Oh yeah and it flys not to shaby as well.

I"m paying $16.50 for 15% in Massachusetts, but I use 10% in my 120AX at $15.50/gal and use 20/20 in my YS at $20/gal.

Did anyone else have to add more right thrust when running their Venus with an os120ax?  Mine pulls left and is carrying a few clicks of right rudder to compensate.  I'm adding a washer as a shim and heading to the field now.  I'd like to be able to fly with a neutral rudder as it seems to be affecting tracking.  Still smooth as silk.  Continuing to dial it in...

Mike,

I personally have adopted Chip Hyde's method of mixing right rudder to throttle.  As you increase the throttle you add  a slight amount of right rudder.  This works much better in my opinion as you arent carrying right thrust all the time.  When doing inverted pushes the right through is actually a detriment.  Very easy to set up and easy to adjust to get the right feel throughout the throttle curve,

Arch

I actually removed right thrust. Mine pulled right on  takeoff and in verticals. Two washers straightened it out, now it flies really nice. Was the case for both the 120AX and the YS 110.

That certainly makes sense and that's what I do with my 3D profile planes - no offset and a slight mix (using a linear mix) of throttle to rudder.  I got caught up in a couple articles on how to trim pattern planes.  It was stressing the fact that you should have zero rudder.  I'll try the mix first.

Mine has no rudder sitting at idle...   It accomplishes exactly the same thing, just in a different way.  The rest of the rules for trimming still apply.

Can anyone tell me how to mix throttle and rudder on a Spektrum DX 7.  I haven't been able to figure it out.  Your assistance would be appreciated.

I dont know specifically as I'm a Futaba guy, but I would suspect you would just use a programmable mix.  Thottle is the master, rudder is the slave.  Then adjust the percentages to get what you want,

Yeah, what he said.  Program mix (you should have 4 or 6 of them).  Then throttle to rudder and assign it to a switch or just keep it always on.

Hi everyone.
Finally I went with the 120ax and carbon pipe combo on my fixed venus. After 1 1/2 gals of 10% fuel,  I am getting 9.400rpms hot, backed for flight, on a apc 15x11. I have to tune the pipe yet. The power is really great,  uplines are fast, and i can maintain speed  going up, down or just straight.
About the right thrust, I also needed a little more so I made the throttle -> rudder mix with great succes. My aproach is to add right thrust just if a lot of correction is needed, and fine tune with the mix.
By the way, the link that Mprediger posted is for a throttle curve, so you can have a more linear throttle response. Good trick, but doesn´t help with the thrust issue.

That good, huh? What happened? Everytime I fly a plane other than my Venus I miss it more and more. Haven't flown it in a week, going through withdrawal, and looking forward to taking it up later this week.

Sorry you're not happy with the plane

I have been flying my Venus II with a YS 110 and love this combo.
But because the YS pressurizes the fuel tank the tanks has worn a hole where the tanks comes into contact with the fuel tank mount in the plane.
I can't find a replacement part number for this tank from GP so what our my options for a replacement tank that will fit in the same slot in the front tank area of the fuse?

If you have the YS, why not move the tank to the CG? It's an easy upgrade and really worth the little bit of work.
