Has anyone that has flown this plane yet think that it is possible to due some minor 3D or have actually done some already with this plane.... Just wondering what to expect.... I have thought about sending back the Venus \II and getting the Funtana X 100. I had looked at getting this plane prior to buying the Venus II. I hate it when \I second guess my decisions[:o]

eflier -> RE: Venus II (7/26/2006 7:38 PM)

mine venus 2 has about 10 flights on it so far, and I LIKE IT...I am using an Eflite Power 60 motor, Jeti 77 opto speed control
6S 4000 mah packs...16 X 10 prop at 7000 rpm max.....no the RPM isn't as high as the fuel motors get, but if you do the math, the pitch speed is higher, so it all works out the same in the end. point is there is absolutely no shortage of power/vertical...about the same as a 120, and the model flies wonderfully at 8 lbs one ounce.
It is definitely a keeper in my opinion. ( for what it's worth) kE flight is almost hands off, and the inverted portion of a 1/2 reverse Cuban needs absolutely no down elevator. The only tricky part is that it's a little floaty on the landings...start the approach a little high, and you are definitely going to be going around again.

Nickolas -> RE: Venus II (7/27/2006 1:20 PM)

8lbs and 1 oz?? This is around 3.65 Kg. That's very light!! I would be very happy if mine came around 4.0 Kgs as I'm using a relativelly heavy engine (YS-140) and soft mount.

Has anyone tried a similar glow setup?

kochj -> RE: Venus II (8/8/2006 7:43 PM)

I have thought about the 26 evolotion gas in this plane. It is 33oz which is same weight as the os 120fs. The total price of plane increases dramatically though

kochj -> RE: Venus II (8/9/2006 10:32 AM)

G3- Expansion #2 has the VENUS II in it.
Flew it around with the os 120fs. It flew very predictable w/ some coupling during KE flight. I had tried the supertigre .90 in the plane and it didn't have much pulling power at all. In my opinion, if this is how it would really fly with this set up, I would have to get a 1.20 2-stroke or 4. Not sure if this is the way it is in the real world flight, but I would have thought that it would have flown better. ..............
In the G3 sim, once the control deflection rates were turned up, I was able to preform some 3d. It actually did most well except for the wall\(due to the long fuse). I am excited to get this built.

UPDATED\::::I had looked at the funtana 100previously and actually bought it. I couldn't inspect it fully until I arrived at home. there were numerous burns in the covering and the cowl had areas were the fiberglass was thin. Called horrizon hobby and they wanted me to send the plane back to them to inspect it and see if it needs to be replaced\!!!! \LOL yeah right. venus II is hands down a much better built plane. I returned the funtana 100X and picked up a GMS 1.20 engine and never looked back. (yes \I know the GMS is a inexpensive engine but the 2-current large scale aircraft projects have made money tight. The 1.20 will go in the Venus II and keep the ST.90 in the piper cub w/floats.

Azpiroz -> RE: Venus II (8/18/2006 9:31 PM)

Mine ended up weighing 7.95 Lbs. with a Saito 125 and Du Bro soft mount. Flies like an angel. Turning a 15 X 10 APC @ 8900. not unlimited vertical but with only 3 gallons of fuel through the engine.

Don M. -> RE: Venus II (8/23/2006 10:18 AM)

I have put about 150 flights on my Venus 11 over the last 2 months and have to say that it is the best flying sport / pattern plane I have had in 20 years. My set up is an OS 120FS, weighs 8.5 lbs. and has unlimited vertical with a 15 - 8 APC. I started out with a Saito 125 but it was so sick and used so much fuel I pulled it and sent it to Horizon. It has been returned with a few new parts ( warranty ) but the OS works so good it will stay in it.

To the guy above who wants to run a Evolution 26cc in it all I can say is you won't be happy. I just sold a MVVS 26cc and they weigh 55 ozs. with a tuned pipe, battery etc. If you run without a pipe you will lose toooo much power. Yes they are advertised at 32 ozs. but that is BARE weight.

Hi,

I've noticed you installed the servos at the tail, how does the model balance with the OS-120? I plan to do the same that's why asking.

Nick

Actually it is still a bit nose heavy. I have the battery as far back as I can get it without modifications. It flies fine that way, it just needs a bit too much down elevator inverted for my liking. I replaced the steel pushrods with CF ones. Not sure if that is lighter or heavier. Also as you can see I have an OS flex pipe on the engine which may add 1 - 2 ozs. in the nose. Whatever you do the 120 FS with the rear servos will be fine.

dingo9882 -> RE: Venus II (8/31/2006 5:53 AM)

Hey guy, I have the 1.20ax in my venus and I am having a hell of a time balancing it. I have the battery way far back too in the fuse. I am getting almost 7.1 ounces in the back just to balance it. Any suggestions.

Don M. -> RE: Venus II (8/31/2006 11:58 AM)

Your doing something wrong. I have an OS 120 4 stroke, heavy Dubro mount and an extra pipe on my exhaust and my balances a TOUCH nose heavy with the battery at the aft of the servo tray. I have 150 flights this way and no problems. Do you have the servos in the front if you do move them to the rear. It will balance and be much more precise.

Nickolas -> RE: Venus II (9/5/2006 8:07 AM)

Hi guys,

Venus (Jini-S)[:D]is finally ready to go, I just need to install the cowl and check some minor things. The plane balances ok with the YS-140 FZ which is a beast in terms of power but not weight. Battery has been located just behind the recommended Rx position. Tank is located at the CG region.

My setup is as follows:

- Engine YS-140 FZ turning an APC 15x12 prop with std muffler set
- Gator Soft Mount
- Tetra 16 oz high pressure tank
- JR NES-4131 on elevator and ailerons, JR NES-4721 on Rudder, JR NES-321 on throttle
- JR 10ch PCM synthesized Rx 10DS and JR heavy duty switch
- JR 1400 mAh NiCd
- Sullivan 4-40 pushrods everywhere I did not trust that soldering illustrated in the manual.

It seems very promising and now that has been assembled I like it more, let's hope that it will fly as good.

Nick

Don M. -> RE: Venus II (9/5/2006 10:55 AM)

That is absolutely crazy putting that engine in it, you need some professional help [X(] I love it [:D]

Nickolas -> RE: Venus II (9/5/2006 2:15 PM)

Thanks for the mental help...[:D]

Throttle management is the key...and proper adjustment of the throttle curve. On Saturday I will maiden it so I will write a brief flight report and trmming notes.

Nick

Don M. -> RE: Venus II (9/5/2006 11:10 PM)

Actually I considered putting my 140 in mine but opted for the OS 120 E. It has unlimited vertical but just takes a bit longer than the YS will.

ilan_barak -> RE: Venus II (9/7/2006 7:52 AM)

I am in the last stages of assembling my Venus II. The elevator throws suggested in the manual (+/- 14 mm) seem quite small. What are you guys using?

Thanks

Ilan

I set mine up per the book. Took off on low rates and immediately went to high rates. I find the elev. fine but the roll rate is a bit slow but fine for pattern type flying. If you are a seasoned flyer I would use thier high rates for low rates and go to somewhat more for high.

Anyway to answer your question, yes the recommended rates are fine for average flying. 9/16" movement is not really a small movement for a pattern type plane IMHO.

dhawks -> RE: Venus II (9/7/2006 12:36 PM)

I lost my V II in a mid-air two weekends ago. Ran into an Ultra Stik being flown by a novice on a buddy box with an instructor pilot. Nobody's fault really, but my Venus was totally destroyed. The Ultra Stik landed with a damaged wing.

I salveged the engine and all the radio gear, all checks out O.K., except one aileron servo stripped a gear.

I'm nearing completion of my 2nd V II (ordered it the afternoon following the crash). I had just gotten my 1st one flying the way it should and was really starting to enjoy a nicely trimmed pattern plane. Now I am starting all over again. I do have the program saved on my 9303, so I will have a good starting point.

I should have the new plane in the air this weekend if all goes well. I only flew the 1st one for 4 months, and it took no time at all to decide to get the 2nd one. I don't think you can beat this plane for the money.

Kostas1 -> RE: Venus II (9/9/2006 1:21 PM)

Maudened yet buddy?

dingo9882 -> RE: Venus II (9/9/2006 4:39 PM)

I would just like to say I have 3 flights on this plane and it halls ass. I have an O.S. 120 AX in it and set rich it had unlimited vertical and I didn't get above half throttle except on my really big loops. It performs amazing for pattern.

ilan_barak -> RE: Venus II (9/9/2006 10:43 PM)

Dingo,

what throws did you setup for the V2? was the 14mm elevator enough?

Ilan
