I set mine up with 15 degrees of throw. It is plenty for pattern.

Nickolas -> RE: Venus II (9/10/2006 12:29 PM)

Hi again,

Yesterday I first flew Venus, I had about 10 flights (1 gallon of Cool Power[:o]) and I am pretty satisfied by the performance of both the plane and the YS-140. During the first flight the plane seemed to be nose heavy so I put around 1.2 oz (35gr) weight at the tail, it still is nose heavy but I would not rather to add any extra weight. I will try to remove the battery further back.

Some notes:
- The plane rolls very well and knife edge perfromance is brilliant. Coupling is nearly non existent even in slow/high alpha knife edge
- Snaps are crisp and predictable, I thoughy I was incompetent flying snaps precisely but with this plane I don't feel the same [:)]
- It seems to be pretty slow in the downlines and general gives the impression of constant speed in the box
- The YS-140 is a very good match for flying in a big box, I wouldn't put something less powerful, throttle management is the key though.
- Control surfaces are very effective so if you want it for pattern keep your throws to the recommended range. I have set three modes: Normal (recommended large throws), Snap Mode and Spin Mode
- The plane did not seem to be influenced by the wind of around 20Km nearly 3bft

For the price the plane takes 9.9/10 [:D]

Here are some photos.

Thanks Ryan

Hello,

I bought a Venus II a couple of weeks ago and I am now beginning to assemble. I plan on installing a YS 120 with a type "A" Hyde mount. I would like to place the tail feather servos up front and inside rather than in the rear. I plan on placing the tank over the CG. Could you offer any speculation on how this plane may balance? [8D]

dhawks -> RE: Venus II (9/14/2006 7:30 PM)

Todd,

On my 1st Venus II (crashed due to a mid-air) I used an O.S. 120 Surpass III pumped 4-stroke on a Gator soft mount. With the rudder servo in the tail and a single elevator servo above the wing using twin pushrods, the plane balanced nose heavy, I added about 2.5 oz. to the tail.
On my 2nd Venus II, I used the same engine and mount, but mounted the rudder and 2 elevator servos in the tail. It balances on the recommended C.G. with no additional weight in the tail.
Your YS and Hyde mount should be close to the same weight as my setup so you should come out with similar results.

It won't ! Can't image why you would want to do this. I have an OS 120 up front and servos in the rear. It is a bit nose heavy still.

Damnpilot -> RE: Venus II (9/15/2006 3:22 AM)

Don,

I really don't care for servos being exposed to the exterior of a model. It seems to take away some of their beauty IMHO.
If it won't balance as I have described, I guess I am stuck with it. I have the Venus .40 with all servos in the fuse as instructed. I guessed her big sister would be the same. That is what you get when you don't do your homework. I should have bought something else I suppose. What a shame. Thanks for your feedback.

kregan -> RE: Venus II (9/15/2006 3:30 AM)

I don't see why you could not cut a hatch into the bottom
rear and install your batteries back there.

Then you could place your servo's inside.

The plane will come nose heavy if you place the servos upfront. Please have a look at my setup and comments above if you want, YS-140 that I use has similar or less weight than YS-120. Mine has come nose heavy with the servos at the tail and the battery to the rear tray.

IMHO the control would be much more precise with the shorter more ridgid rear mounted linkage. I considered putting my servos up front also but when I saw the flex in the loooong rods it was a no brainer.

Besides I always apply the 50 / 50 rule. At 50 feet and 50 mph no one can tell the difference. [:D]

fastplane -> RE: Venus II (9/16/2006 2:32 AM)

Nickolas, when you noted you set three control modes for different flying.
So Normal is what the manual instructs I presume. High rate or low rate?
Snap Mode : is this less or more control throw then normal?
Spin Mode : is this less/more then normal? and/or Snap Mode?
Thanks,

Abras -> RE: Venus II (9/18/2006 4:35 AM)

I have a Saito 150 here.

What plane would be better to start on pattern flying: Venus II or H9 Showtime?

jonlowe -> RE: Venus II (9/18/2006 12:24 PM)

I've owned both. Venus II is the better of the airplanes for pattern work.

Normal: Recommended high rates
Snap: Normal Ail, Lower El, Lower Rud
Spin: Lower Ail, Higher El, Normal Rud

I hope this helps, try to play with percentages etc. in order to find the modes that suit to your flying style.

I also have both planes and I am pretty satisfied. If you want an allarounder that you can huck its tail down the runway and also fly precise and smooth go for the Showtime. If you want a sport pattern plane to perform patternish style aerobatics then go for Venus.

David Cutler -> RE: Venus II (10/4/2006 9:09 PM)

I just finished my Venus 2 with a YS110 fitted.

I have fitted the servos at the back, and the tank on the CG, and, with the battery slightly behind the CG it balanced first time exactly on the 6.5 inch behind the LE point.

I'm amazed I was so lucky!

Nickolas -> RE: Venus II (1/24/2007 2:20 PM)

Hi Kosta,

All my YSs work perfectly fine, I run them with Cool Power 30% Heli fuel (22% Oil and 30% Nithromethane).

The engine on Venus is a 10 year old YS-140, it was sitting on the shelf for many years and was nearly brand new when I put it on Venus. The only thing I did was to change the silicon diaphragm of the regulator.

Hopefully, I'm gonna get a YS-160 DZ soon for my future 2x2 pattern plane.

Thanks and regards,

Nikos

Hey Don

I would just like to know how you painted your canopy, looks great!

I have put about 150 flights on my Venus 11 over the last 2 months and have to say that it is the best flying sport / pattern plane I have had in 20 years. My set up is an OS 120FS, weighs 8.5 lbs. and has unlimited vertical with a 15 - 8 APC. I started out with a Saito 125 but it was so sick and used so much fuel I pulled it and sent it to Horizon. It has been returned with a few new parts ( warranty ) but the OS works so good it will stay in it.

To the guy above who wants to run a Evolution 26cc in it all I can say is you won't be happy. I just sold a MVVS 26cc and they weigh 55 ozs. with a tuned pipe, battery etc. If you run without a pipe you will lose toooo much power. Yes they are advertised at 32 ozs. but that is BARE weight.
