Status: offline 		I'm just about to start the assembly of my venus 2, I have taken in a lot of info on the different engines for this bird, I had previously settled on an os 120fs, now I'm leaning more closely to the ys 120 and 140 with or without type A hyde mount: I am an os flyer, but which is better for performance 2 or 4stroke, ys or os, regular mount or hyde mount. I read somewhere that 2 strokes are faster, and 4 strokes have a better sound and more torque........I also thought more torque meant more speed.......not knowing of course, I just want what everybody else wants..........the very best setup for this beautiful machine.....I can't wait..........thanx in advance....

Status: offline 		Has anyone tried a Saito 125 in this plane?

It looks to be about 8.6 ounces lighter than the OS FS0120--servos could be mounted inside the fuse, could make a big difference in performance.

Or a Saito 150 is about the same weight.....

Not specifically a Saito fan (yet), just wondering......

I will take about 4 to 5 gallons before the 125 starts to really come on butt then hang on its great. It also loves 30 % fuel best. You wil need to put the servos in the tail to ballance .

Status: offline 		a few more pixs if your thinking about the saito 125....3- 1/4" plywood spacers laminated together with 30 minute on a hyde A mount gets your 6 1/4" distance from firewall to backplate right on the money...slimline pitts....have tank mounted back about 7" with a dubro 20 oz. tank....waiting on a perry vp 20. few more pixs on page 7 for the 125 setup.

Status: offline 		Kimod, I am also using the Saito 125 for my Venus II with the stock muffler. I noticed you mounted the Saito 125 fully inverted.
The manual shows the engine at an angle so the exhaust in out the bottom. Is there a major reason for fully inverted?
I did not note in the manual a need for so much spacers at the firewall.
What is the pink looking material with the spacers?
Your installation is looking good.

I went inverted to keep the pitts muffler stacks straight out the bottom. The spacers were used because the hyde mount was already predrilled for the 125 and 3/4" was needed to obtain the 6 1/4 inch firewall to prop backplate distance. The hyde mount has the pink composite material which "sandwiches" the rubber. The pink plates and rubber are all assembled and glued as one unit. I did not want to disturb the holes since the blind nuts for the mount were already epoxied in from hyde. I have used epoxied laminated firewall shims on my cub with a saito 82 as well. The shim is epoxied together ( 3 pieces of 1/4inch ply)....then epoxied to the firewal....then bolted thru the firewall with the mount.

The cut outs in the tail are sized for standard size servos. The same for the aileron servo holes.
If you are planning for precision flying --- don't cheap out on the servos. Oz/in torque should be min as shown in the manual.

Status: offline 		No pics, but just use the angle template for the OS .61/91, and the 1.20 muffler will fit properly in the provided cavity. You have to spread the mount just a hair wider to fit the 1.20AX, but the slots in the mount for the sliding halves are long enough to accomodate the width if you use the provided drilling template for the 61/91. Based on experience, trial fit the engine on the mount at the distance they recommend from the firewall, and hold it in place with a drop or two of CA between the engine lugs and the mount. Then fit the cowl, and see if you need to move the engine fore or aft to properly fit the cowl for a good spacing between the spinner and the cowl. Then drill the holes in the mount for the engine lugs.

Even with the servos in the tail, be prepared to cut the film on the bottom of the fuselage aft of the wing cavity to place the battery in the aft fuselage to get a good CG. The most aft CG location in the manual is a good starting point, but I had to move mine further aft for proper trim.

Another approach to solve the CG issue is just slide the motor back on the mounts about an inch. Then mount cowl, etc, normally. This moves the motor back and helps with the nose heavy issue using the heavier motors.

Obviously, this shortens the nose moment the same amount giving a slightly longer relative tail moment which isn't that big a deal particularly in the lower pattern classes. A friend of mine did that for his Venus II and 120AX and it flies just fine. Knife edge, stall turns and spins all seem normal and he didn't have to cut a hole in the tail for the battery. He was going to do that but decided to move the motor instead.

BTW, this is a great flying model for the $$$. I know many others have said the same thing here. It is a very nice choice for people wanting to get into pattern or someone looking for a practice plane. I was very impressed with it after I did the test and trimming flights for my friend. With the OS120AX and a APC 16x10 (I think) I never had to go to full throttle to do huge loops and towering stall turns and the motor was running rich. This is a power house 120 sized motor.

Status: offline 		Now, why didn't I think of that? Too easy I guess. I have a new cowl coming when they get back in stock at Tower. Mine is all cut up from the OS 61 and then the OS 1.20 w/muffler for the RC Report test I did. Now, I'm going to a quiet tuned pipe arrangement, and with a new cowl, it would be the perfect time to do this.

Status: offline 		I had the same question and now have an OS 1.2 AX in my Venus II. I am almost done with the building, just a few minor tweaks.

I used the OS 91 drill guide pattern from the manual. The engine mount fit well. I had to use the muffler extender that came with the 1.2 AX, but that brings the muffler down just right. The servo linkage for the throttle was a little tricky, but it worked out. The cowl needs a lot of cutting with the muffler so low, but at least the engine will get plenty of air!

You can use the original spiner, but the spiner adaptor isn't match. So, you should buy 8X1 mm spiner adaptor.

Status: offline 		Has anybody used a hyde mount for the 120AX? I just bought one but I do not know if it is the right one. It is the Hyde Firm idle mount...the new type C one. Is there another one that I could have used for this engine that does not use the nose cone adapter? Because if I got the wrong one all I will do is return it back to central hobbies.
