Just curious ... not trying to start anything with my favourite jousting partner...

What's wrong with the events section of the MAAC site? It seems a more likely place to look if someone from out of town were looking for events in your neck of the woods.....

Jim,
Events make it onto the MAAC website by completing the Event Sanction form (http://www.maac.ca/docs/forms/2006/SANCTION_FORM_Event_Comp_bilingual.pdf)

This form is then subject to ZD approval and forwarded to the MAAC office for subsequent posting on the website.

I hope this satisfies your curiosity

Thanks Jeff,

No, it doesn't satisfy my curiosity unfortunately. I've had many events sanctioned/posted ... it's not an arduous task, nor have I expereinced much of a time lag. It definitely reaches a much wider audience....

My reason for making the point is, like many others, I enjoy traveling to new events, meeting new people, new experiences, new memories. When this type of information is hidden on small personal sites, it often gets missed.
I understand one of the mandates of MAAC is to further communications. If we bypass this role, we are doing a great disservice to the members....

Ken, you SOB, how can you be so controversial?

lol

........geeeez Jim, it's just a posting of events within reach of the members around here. Nobody is bypassing anything. Clubs like ours (Float Fly - Kenora) still submit our sanctions and info for the Mag/Website as ususal.

You'll note that a couple of the events are state-side and wouldn't normally appear in our system. I know one of our area clubs doesn't want to advertise in the mag as it's a word of mouth event to keep numbers reasonable. It's just information.

Hi Jim
Jeff has been very good about forwarding the sanctions as soon as he gets them but as you know, club volunteers are busy and sometimes late in getting the word out.

We try to give people an idea of what's in the zone area, whether its Canada or the US, so they can perhaps plan a vacation around an RC event.

Our good American friends have been very accomidating hosts at their fly-ins and there events will not be listed on the MAAC website, and as such, local modellers would miss out on such an event.

Wish you well in this year's flying season, if you ever think about coming out west, we have some great events,,, love to see you here.

Ok, mayne I overstated my case but, it is annoying realising you missed a great event that was right around the corner from where you sat for endless hours with with a group of your wives old friends reminescing aboout the good ole days....

If I'm going stateside, I check the AMA website, for Canada it's MAAC, it's simple and works ... if we choose to use it....

Thanks for the invite Ken, I'll have to take a raincheck though as we're travelling souteast this summer, haven't been to Rhinebeck since my honeymoon so we thought we'd go again, with kids this time.

Hi Randy,
The Rainy River Fly-in is one of those must attend events, where else in the world would 60 to 70 rcer's drive hours to camp out, bunk out in the bottom end of NW Ontario. The fish fry alone is worth the trip.
MOst amzing is that this highly successful event is put on by a club that has only 3 members, this event perhaps epitomizes what aeromodelling is for a lot of us, .....fun, flying, socializing.
I'm sure they would love to see anyone come on down and join the fun.

Scene's from RR

I think this is where the idea of camping at the fly-ins came from
