Status: offline 		Just trying to get info on what other servos people are using on the tail of the T-Rex. I've got the stock S75s from my Spektrum Dx6 and have those installed. I actually have the tail servo installed as well but is there a better one?

Status: offline 		you had better rid that s75 off your trex before it causes you to crash. those things are for park fliers not handle the duty cycle, stresses, and extremes of being on a 3d helicopter like the trex. ESPECIALLY as a tail servo probably has the hardest job.

common tail servos are:

analog-
hitec HS50 - small/lightweight, weak, fast
hitec HS56 - small/lightweight, karbonite gears, fast, very durable. probably one of the most common & recommended servo for the tail
hitec HS81 - uncommon, strong torque, hyper fast, slight weight penalty, slightly bigger than the submicro servos, inexpensive. i use this on my own heli as an experiment and i ended up liking it. i was originally going to do the hs56, but im happy that im going to leave it.
futaba S31-3,7,8,10 - cheap, futaba, nylon gearing, it works okay i guess.

digital (gy401 or digi gyro needed) -
577/877 - new class of cheap & sub micro digi servos. who knows about geartrain support???
futaba 9650 - ultimate servo for the trex tail. $60 each. a very big & heavy servo. will probably affect CG.
JR 281? - some pros use these for everything tail or cyclic.

Status: offline 		So I'll take those S75s off. That's cool. But what would you recommend? I am getting the GY401. Thank you for the input as to which servos and why. If it was your machine, which would you use?

3x HS65's on the cyclic (newer than 56's, and mount better but slower(more torq) not well suited for tail)

depending on what gyro youre using:
1x HS56 on the tail if analog gyro
1x 9650 if you can afford it. probably need a metal tail mounts too since it's bigger and heftier. gy401 or gyro w/ digi output

if you really cant afford HS65/56's,

then those futaba 3110's will work on the cyclic
probably would still buy a hs56 on the tail at least.

on my own heli, i have 3x hs56 and 1xhs81 on the tail. the hs65's werent out yet when i was servo shopping. if i were to do it again, id get hs65's on the cyclic. using hs56's on the cyclic requires redrilling the servo mount and possibly improvising spacers. hs56's have offset mounts in the middle of the servo rather at the top plate and are not bolt on. the hs56 on the boom brackets are bolt in however.

Status: offline 		I'll go to my local LHS and get the HS65s for the cyclic and get the 56s for the tail. Too bad they didn't have the 9650. Thanks for the info.

With the 401, Do get the 9650 - Even if you have to wait. Yes it's big, and it mounts perfectly on the stock boom mount strap provided. You can't do better & don't worry re CG

I lucked out and was able to get the 9650 with my HS65s. So I'll be outfitting my heli with this hopefully tonight. Waiting on the gyro, motor and ESC. Thanks for all the input.

I'm not a salesperson, as you know, but I just got the Phoenix 35 ESC.. As well as my Trex flew with the stock 35A ESC, this one is SO MUCH BETTER in all respects!!! And has many more outstanding programming options. I may have mentioned, on another thread, it sounds so much more authoritative and with a "Husky Roar"---Really impressive!! I think it's drawing slightly more current than the Align ESC, as I'm only getting 10 Min flight time as opposed to about 15 with the Align, but I think I can adjust that too. Also current cutoff at low voltage can be programmed to a gentle 'slow down' as opposed to the sharp cut-off. My Futaba Xmitter does have a count-down timer which I set to start at "any" throttle position over 20%. At least I know when it's ready to quit.

By the way-- CA'd the broken Rt skids so she's sitting "straight' again. Will wait for the 'Gorilla" skids. At least with the broken skid, I really was forced into Very careful NON-Moving landings. Amazing how fast bad habits can be corrected. Reminds me of an episode I had around 30 years ago with my 'real' plane--Coming into a landing at Republic Apt here, had no indication of gear Down & Locked. The tower said it looked OK by there observation, but called out the emergency crew anyway. Never made such a smooth landing in my life--Could barely feel the touch down. End of story--replaced the gear light fuse that same day.
