I just use white out on dark colored blades. 1 blade near the tip, and a dot on the other blade 1 inch in from the tip. works great. Im gunna have to get me a set o dem plastic blades to try.

I'm into my third week with the Plasi-Blades and my opinion is - FINALLY RELEIF!!!!

I unfortunately had a bad crash and I had to replace my brand new chassis with another brand new one. I had one flight and then accidentally landed on the tail. The tail boom shifted into the path of the Plasti-Blade. The Plasi-Blade won and it also destroyed my B&H head.

After rebuilding it, I had to put on the original head. Man what a difference the B&H makes. Anyway, first flight after rebuild and crashed again. I forgot to put the head screw in the top (DAMN!!!!).

Rebuild three... Now we're flying. Still there’s no problem with the Plasti-Blade (Original blades).

However, I have to go to England for two weeks and I won’t be able to fly! [:@][:@]

Have a great two weeks folks... C-Ya

John,

I just wanted to say thanks for making these things. Being in Iraq, when I have a crash and damage parts(normally blades), I would have to wait for a couple of weeks to get replacements. I put mine on, and am already in the air. I am still learning, and have gone through at least 5 sets of woodies, along with other parts. If you choose to make the head parts, I would definately be interested. Anything that will help me save money and down time is welcome.[:D][:D]

Keep it up, you are doing a great service to us all, and I hope that JCS Hobbies gets up and going!!!

Chris

i just put on the plastic blades but am unable to hover more than about 2 feet
i am running the stock battery, training gear, and fuel tubing over the landing gear rods (to make it nice and pretty)
i also tried different pitches and it still doesn't go any higher
i was wondering if anyone else is running this setup and can fly or do i have to shave weight or go lipo to get best results
thanks

cpbambam101,

This is John from JCS Hobbies. The only issues I have heard that fall into the catagory you are mentioning is when people have used the 9T motor with the stock battery. If you have the 10T motor and the stock NiMh battery all should be well with your helicopter. I had one person email me the same trouble and once he got the 10T motor back on the heli flew great.

Just check to see if this might be the issue. If not you can email me at custserv@jcshobbies.com for quicker response to questions you might have.

I can also send you the lengths of my pitch control rods if the motor you are using is not the issue.

Sincerely,

John Sparks
JCS Hobbies

I will make sure we get you flying...

cpbambam101 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (3/27/2006 7:49:33 PM)

i'm using the stock motor so i'm pretty sure that one is 10T
i think i'll try to take some weight off and see what that does
i might buy a pitch gauge sometime soon so i'll see what that says too
thanks

bpd282 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/3/2006 10:27:33 PM)

Just started playing with my "Plasit-Blades" and this is what I found:

Upon initial installation, I had to put a tiny bit of tape on one blade to achieve balance (Could just be my grip set). On first flight, I was only able to get slightly off of the ground. No problem, just changed my pitch and boom, up in the sky she went. I really increased pitch from the woodies and this lifted the CP easily to 7-8 feet in the air. I goofed around for a a few minutes and noticed the CP was just a bit more tame. Inputs on the stick were not as pronouced in flight with the Plasti-blades, as they are with the woodies. Charged up the battery and started the flight log:

I hovered for 2 minutes 18 seconds, approximately 7 feet high, then set it down. I noticed the motors were getting warm (Not hot). Rested for two minutes. Flew another two minutes starting off at 7 feet hight (hover). At about 1 min 30 secs into this hover, It lost altitude and came down to about three feet. Hovered for another 30 secs and set it down. Now the motor and heat sync were fairly hot. Rested it for about two minutes and back to the air. It intially climed to about six feet and then came back down to about two feet off the ground. Hovered here for about two minutes and 30 secs. Last thirty seconds of flight I was barely off of the ground. Phone rang and I lost my focus and had a semi hard landing. I saw the heli lean to the side and one blade caught the ground. The heli shifted and I saw one of the blades hit the tail boom. Just a very small nick in the blade edge, no damage to the boom. Motor was HOT.

Stock motor and battery lasted four minutes of good hovering. No busted up blades- Thank you John.

I dunno, with my 1250 Lipo, and flat woods and a 9 tooth pinion, and heak sinks, I can hover for 10 minutes, and the motor only gets warm, not hot... I made a big cooling hole in my windshield though. I think it helps alot.

Pilot352 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/4/2006 4:32:26 PM)

Well, I'm back from England!!!

Right before I left, I decided to be bold and try a little forward flight. I flew a large 30 foot circle with success. I was excited!! So, in my rookie boldness, I tried it again. Well, this time it was a total disaster. I lost control and broke many parts. The Plasti-Blade survived flawlessly, but I bent a main shaft, broke a B&H blade grip and the main head hub.

Oh well... no pain, no gain I guess.

When I returned from England, I fixed it and crashed it again. The next fix, I decided to paint the Plasti-Blade. I used a Rustoleum high gloss Enamel. I lightly sanded the the entire surface with a 320 grit sand paper and applied two coats of paint. I had to tape off the area where the blade grips contact the blade. They look awesome!! i will post pictures later tonight.

Note: When I sanded the surface, I also sanded the leading edge and removed all the pot marks from previous crashes. They now look brand new. I am on my ninth crash with these things and they still work an look brand new!! Now I just need to learn not to crash so often!!!

I haven't quite figured out how to do the image thing yet...

Also, Not the velcro holding on the battery. I't yello too. thanks to the fellow in the other thread for the idea!!!

Oh, and yuppers!! I like the blades!!!

I just wanted to get on here and thank everyone so far. The response to my blades has been overwhelming. I am very glad to hear that everyone has really liked my product. I am looking forward to bringing you some new and exciting stuff for the Blade CP very soon.... Keep your eyes peeled [:D]... It might have something to do with....well.... inverted flight.... [X(]

Thanks again.

Sincerely,
John Sparks

Phy -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/11/2006 9:15:20 AM)

After spending about an hour reading up on these blades my first thought is, why didn't I know about these things 2 crashes ago? I'm convinced that this is what I need.
In the half-dozen or so pages of of forum posts I've read, I keep hearing people say they're either going to, or already have ordered 2 sets of these blades, but I haven't heard anyone mention if they've actually had to use their spare set. Has ANYONE irrepairably broken a set of these things?!
I have a grand total of about two hours of "flying" time (which honestly = about 30 minutes of actual hover). I just did a damage assessment of my most recent, erm... misjudgement... and it ain't pretty. [8|] So as sensible a buying 2 sets of blades may sound, my already-busted list -followed closely by my likely-to-break-soon list- isn't getting any shorter.
Don't get me wrong John, I'm quite confident in my ability to break your product in a spectacular way, I just don't see a situation occurring where the only thing I'd need to get myself back in the air is a second set of your blades. You could probably snail mail me a second set before I have all the pieces that crash dislodged from the neighbors tree.
Anyway, on to the user-feedback part...my opinion about the stickers; unless they came in the form of a roll of packing tape (or maybe bandages), i'm too concerned about aesthetics at this stage of the game. My bright orange ping-pong balls are enough *bling* for me. [:D]
Finally, my $.02 about future products; would be great to see that plasti-blade durability in a tail rotor or landing skids!
Thanks in advance for the blades, pics of broken coffee table soon to come.

cpbambam101 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/11/2006 1:55:29 PM)

heres an update - i took all my extra weight off (including the training gear) and it would fly ok for about two minutes. Then it seemed that the motor wouldn't have enough power to do much of anything. the next day i put my woodies back on and it flew for about three minutes before it did the same thing. a couple days ago i was putting my battery in and i saw some black flakes. I then realized that when i did a rebuild, some of the double sided tape used to put in the 4-in-1 was pushing the main motor backwards so that the mesh was super tight between the motor and main gear. i fixed that, added another heat sink to the main motor (the main motor was getting pretty hot before), put the plasti-blades back on, along with my training gear, and now it is as happy as before. I also tried a little forward flight for the first time and that was a fun. Didn't crash too hard, just lost the little rubber things that hold on the tail rotor.

sparky814_hawk -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/11/2006 4:56:36 PM)

Cpbambam101,

I use 1/2A fuel tubing for my tail rotor hold on device. It works really well and has a better grip in the tail rotor shaft. I have used if for 5-6 months now with no issues. Give it a try, since I was unable to find replacements for the stock rubber thingies they supply with the heli.

Phy,

No worries on the ordering two deal. I have had people come back and buy more blades, but normally it is due to the amount of crashing and too many notches on the leading edges. If anyone does destroy a pair of these things I would love to see the pics....

Sincerely,

John Sparks

P.S. Check out the RCGroups link on my website. THere is a mod out there now for the Plasti-Blade that seems to work well to lighten the blades up.

Hi

If I could get my hands on a camera I would show you a big crack in one of my plastic plades.

bpd282 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/12/2006 4:59:21 PM)

Ok, I've had my first few crashes with the Plasti-Blades: They held up like a champ! Cant say so much for my spindle and frame[:o].

First crash was when my toddler walked into the room. I over-corrrected and the bird came right at me. Well, because it is a little sluggish, I was unable to correct its path and it flew right into my shoulder. All I can say is OUCH! I had a sweatshirt on and it still gave me an inch long cut my arm, not to mention a nice bruise. All I could do was laugh. Only thing wrong was a slightly bent spindle. I bent it back and back to the air I went.

Second crash was a day later. Got a little close to the wall and the blades hit the drywall. No damage to the blades at all, saving me a trip to the LHS. Had to go to Home Depot for wall compound though.

Third crash was most spectacular. I was outside and flying for about five minutes. My apple bag must have swollen larger than my head because I decided to start doing 360's. Did a single and that was not enough. Tried a double 360 and lost conrol. The heli came in sideways and impacted my neighbors river rock patch. Missed my grass by two feet[>:]. When I looked down at it, I thought I would be able to say I was one of the first people to destroy your blades John. Well, one blade struck one of the large river rocks and barely had a scuff and small indentation to the leading edge. I was impressed. The impact was so great, my spindle was bent at least 16 degrees and I had a broken skid, that is it. I'm sure a pair of woodies would have snapped in two. Just a little sanding to the Plasti-Blade and they almost look brand new. Thanks again for a great product.

cpbambam101 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/12/2006 7:24:00 PM)

well i was flying around and got a little disoriented and decided to set it down. I guess i was a little to high (around 6 feet) but was probably going to fast and i snapped both the landing skids. Blades are holding up great, just got a little indentation on the leading edge.

sparky814_hawk -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/13/2006 7:33:49 AM)

Awesome stories guys... I love to hear good things like that. This was the whole reason for designing these things. I am working on some new stuff so keep an eye out in the future for some fun new things. Don't forget to email me some pics if you get the opportunity, I would love to put them on my website.

Sincerely,

John Sparks

fireman2059 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (4/25/2006 9:07:11 AM)

All I can say is.... Bravo John!!!

You've rekindled my interest in learning how to fly my Blade CP.

I've had my blades for almost a week now and I have had some pretty substantial crashes. First one was into a wall, then into some PVC barriers on an electric indoor track, and then a chair. But only had a few nicks on the blades.

Today I got a little cocky and tried to gain some altitude... it got real small, real quick! I tried bringing it down but I think because I had my antenna wrapped around my 4 in 1, I lost range and it came screaming toward the deck. I couldn't regain control, so needless to say I found the ground.

I've had my CP since Feb. and I was getting tired of crashing / buying blades, crashing / buying blades... etc. I was almost gonna pack this back up and put it in storage.

After todays crash, I walked away with a broken bell/hiller arm and a skid. The blades were, aside from a few scuff marks, were unharmed. How well do you think the woodies would have held up?

Anyway again.. just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work!!!!

This upgrade is a definite must for beginners.

PMDrive1061 -> RE: Plasti-Blade for BCP came in today WooHoo!! (5/3/2006 6:31:52 AM)

These blades are proof positive that simple ideas are often the best. What a fantastic product. I was so impressed that I wrote a wiki article and posted it at both radiocontrol.wikia.com and at eflightwiki.com. Thanks to John S. for the history!

I kid you not when I say that my tail motor failed on the initial flight right at takeoff. I should have realized it was failing when I had to fiddle-fark with the 4-in-1. The model seemed to implode itself on the pavement. Busted the tail boom and bent the mainshaft. The Plasti-Blades survived with a few nicks.

New motor, new parts...4-in-1 still out of tweak. New parts: Busted. Plasti-Blades: A-OK.

I made do with the busted parts just to get the 4-in-1 back in alignment and to get the thing in the air. I absolutely love these blades. Even with a bent mainshaft they seemed to track better than stock. Just incredible.

As for the little nicks, they went bye-bye with careful application of 240-grit sandpaper as suggested on this thread. They look like new with no sanding marks whatsoever that I was able to see. I'll pick up the newest new parts on Friday. Now that the electronics are dialed in, I won't be worried about breaking them. Destroying the blades may require head-on flight into a moving freight train.

I am SO stoked about these!

Oh, and before I forget: John, if you haven't yet done so, patent these things. Now. [:D]
