I have just started building the 40 size Fusion and after reviewing the building instructions I can't seem to find any description of how the wings are held onto the fuselage once they have been slid onto the wing tube. Can someone give me some details?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
There are a couple of wood dowels that act as locator pins to keep the wing in plave and there is one bolt that passes through from the left wing in to the right going through the fuse into a blind nut. It is just like this picture of my edge.

Thanks for the insight Dale. I knda figured it was something like that except I had not thought about a blind nut on the other wing root. Pretty simple but effective idea! Back to building.

I glued a 1/4-20 nylon bolt in one wing and use a wing nut to tighten everything down. It's a lot easier to tighten than the head of a bolt. No tools needed, either!

Joe, that's what I do as well. I used hot glue to anchor the nylon wing bolt in to the right wing. That way I could replace if I had to. A wing nut on the left side makes quick work of assembly!

looks nice. but with that, can the wing be detached for transport? What is the build time on one of these kits? Looks like a great plane, I wish I had the time to build one..

Absolutely it can be detached. That was the reasoning for the whole two-piece wing project. Build time on the 40 size Fusion is super quick as it is all wood and goes together with mostly laser cut parts. How fast can you lay down some CA?!!!

Here's my new 52" Fusion. Covering is 99% complete. It took over twice as long as the frame up! Hope to maiden it this weekend, weather permitting. Futaba 3010s on elevator and ailerons, Hitec 625 on rudder, mini on throttle. YS .63 will power it. Haven't figured out a weight yet. Once I get everything installed, I'll weigh it and post the results, but it looks like it will be around 5lbs.

JoeBob, that is one awesome looking Fusion! Show us some flight pics as soon as you can! 5 lbs sounds way heavy! Should be around 4 1/4 lbs with standard gear.

I just put it on the scales and it's 2lbs, 1oz as it sits right now. I'm thinking it will be closer to 4 1/2 now. Really getting anxious to fly this puppy!

looks incredible.. so, any estimates on the build time - not including covering.. also, will this plane fly as slow as the katana? the wing looks thinner..

Don't compare the Fusion to the Katana as they are two different animals. The Kats are pure 3d funflys designed to be very light on the wing loading and thus slow draggy type of flying. The Fusions are more pattern plane/3d mixes which are much more advanced than the funfly style plane. The Fusions will accel at both pattern and 3d. They will still fly very slow but the wing loading is intentionally designed to be higher than the fun fly style planes.

I honestly think you could frame this kit up in less than 16 hours. Mine took about 20, but I used wood glue for the fuse sheeting and had to let it dry for a couple hours for each side. It builds REALLY quick. The only problem I found was that the plans had shrunk slightly and when I got the fuse framed up, the sheeting didn't quite line up at the rear. Not enough to even worry about, though.

I've flown the Katana and the larger Fusion, and I must say that, to me, the the Fusion is just about the perfect plane. It grooves around like a pattern ship, but will also 3D with the best of them.
