Status: offline 		I am hopfully goning to be getting a Hyper 8.5 pro soon and would like to know what kind of engines you would suggest. It has to be comonly found for under $200. I have my eye on the Novarossi 21BF as to it is a great engine but I want something a little easier to handle at first. It has to be reliable and decently quick. I can tune an engine, that is not a problem just something that is a consistent performer. I am wondering about this sport 21 Picco has out it is only $109 at amain too. I have heard from only one person and he said it was great but I just wanted to see if anyone has that engine and their experiences with it.

Edit: Btw does the H8.5 require a flat pack or a hump pack?

Status: offline 		Thanks guys, I have it narrowed down to the Picco sport or the os VG. I think I am going to try the Picco because it is nice and cheap. If I don't like it that much I will sell it at try something different.

46u I know you really like that STS engine, but I have just heard of junky carbs etc. How many gallons have you put thru yours and what carb are using or any other tips? Thanks.

Never owned a VG but not big on nickel plated sleeves!

I have one STS D21B with well over 5 gallons on it still running great with the stock carb. I have a STS 28 in my Savage stock carb but only have about 1-½ gallons on it as I have been to busy racing my Hyper 8. Then I have a STS D21T MKII that I am going to run the beginning of next session still in the box.

IF you are happy with it that is all that matters. I ran ABN engines years ago and know about the durability of nickel. The ABL is based off the ABN process. How many gallons do you have on your VG? I do know my STS D21B will smoke a VG 21 big time and cost just about the same. Just wish they still make the OS RG as I think it was a much more durable engine.

Status: offline 		I have decided to go with a Thunder Tiger 21 pro. I have heard it is a pretty decent engine at a small, small price. Also about the diffs on the 8.5 I know the center is a 6 spyder gear and the front and rear are standard 4 spyder gears correct? Or are spyder gears totally different? Thanks for all the help.

Status: offline 		The OS RG was a great piece. The new VG is a great running design, but it will not last. I bet they go back to the ABC. I have and do run STS, but I would not suggest it to others. If $200 is the budget, I recommend the Axe Rossi Mamba. It can be purchased for $190-$200 for a very short time. You can only get this price from the US distributer: sahak@sbcglobal.net

Interesting, I have read that all three have this as well, I will have to check mine out when I get it.

Also what diff oils are you running? I am probably going to try 3-5-1 first as to that is what RC car action used.

Status: offline 		Being the track is the US for the most part are much different the others the US Hyper 8.5 pro kit has standard front and rear diffs. Even the US ST is the same and if you look on Hobao web site states this.

Status: offline 		I know my Hyper 8 Pro came with black grease filled diffs which really pissed my off cause I had to clean it all out. I dont know if they used silicone oil in the 8.5.

Status: offline 		To answer a few of the questions posed above all at one time. My 8.5 came with an aluminum front top plate. Front and rear diffs are standard, filled with light weight silicone. Center diff is a Spider with grease.

Out of the box with minor adjustments its already better than my 8 was. I like it.

Status: offline 		Well I got my H8.5 today and already got it dirt at the track , I must say that it was good for a stock setup, I just didn't had time to change the diff oils and make the set up, i'm probably going to run 7 - 10 - 3 on the diffs. I'm currently using 45wt on the front shocks and 30wt on the rear. The buggy jumps awesome at the track and it's super smooth.

Status: offline 		You may find that you will not need the 10,000 in the center as the Spider setup behaves like it has slightly thicker oil in it compared to the standard center diff.

Status: offline 		Is that the VG you said you have a little over 2 gallons on it? From looking at the head you most be a great driver, as it does not look like it has 2 gallons on it. LOL Nice looking buggy.

I just about have everything to up grade my 8 to an 8.5. All I need is a center diff brace.
