armycopter, if you raise the trim on your transmitter you can get more throttle. Raise it as high as you can before the motor starts...or raise it all the way up right before take off if you can remember to pull it back down quick to stop the motor if you get in trouble...

ARRRGGGH!!!!

Well the wind got the best of me today. I was flying just fine and had it up about 30 feet. Then a large gust came and just took it. I could hardly see the damn thing. Well I tried to land it but it wasn't pretty. Man the thing just exploded! The frame is broke in 3 places. The boom in bent. The head is a mess. I need to find some parts here somewhere. There is nothing on ebay right now. Maybe I will just buy a barebones and use this one for parts. Oh well. At least I have my 36. Although it is half the helicopter the 37 is.

WOW. This thing is TOTALED! The funny thing is is that it wasnt that hard of a hit. I hit the ground level, but at a high enough sink rate for the blades to hit the boom. I would say that about 70% of the parts are broken. This is crazy. My 36 has hit that hard with nowhere near that much damage.[:@] I might order a new barebones or just scrap the whole thing and get a nice t-rex. Well see....

Man that sucks. Maybe you could order a metal frame for it... Is the 60 frame the same? Of course if 70% of the aircraft is totaled, there's not much use rebuilding it. I saw that the guy I ordered mine from in Texas has the price down to about $121

which is almost $20 cheaper than I bought mine from a week ago!

It was kind of nice having someone else with the same A/C since there doesn't seem to be too many 37 owners. I think you should get another one :-)

I am not sure what I am going to do yet. The thing that is bugging me is how fragile the 37 is. Maybe if I can get a barebones 37 cheap I might try it again. If flies awsome. It just cant handle much damage. I put in my 36 a while back 90 degrees to the ground. I broke about $20 in parts. The surviving parts of this hard landing fill a small plastic bag. [&o]

Sorry I cant. I already threw away all the busted parts and put the good ones is a plastic bag. I should have taken a pic, but I was pretty bummed about it and dismantled it immediately.

Can you test that new WK-G006 gyro(if it's not damaged) on your 36 and let us know if the impact effected it's performance? I'm curious to know how durable it is.

I can do that. Unfortunately it will a while before I can do it. I have parts on order for the 36 that get here on Monday so I cant fly it now. Also, I am going out of town today for 10 days. I will try it out when I get back.

Out of the box I noticed the tail pushrod was disconnected from the plastic tail rotor swivel which was repaired with a dab of epoxy. I have since received and replaced the broken main rotor parts and the machine seems very smooth and controllable clamped to the bench but I am going to have my experienced Raptor friend take it on it's maiden flight. I would love to hear from anyone regarding the flight characteristics. The machine looks to have good design potential but assembly QC is lacking so clamp this buggy down and perform dry runs with safety glasses on. I will post again after the maiden flight hopefully this weekend.

Hey Jim, did you get your maiden flight this weekend? How did it go? I'm still looking for a lipo battery for mine. It drives me crazy that i have to have it shipped from hong kong to get a decent price....

okay, finally broke down and bought a lipo along with a brushless motor and esc. has anyone ever heard of these motors/esc's?

anyway, that's what I got - good or bad - I figured I couldn't go wrong for the price. It's got to be better than this stock brushed motor setup. I can't barely get out of GE no matter what I do. it's actually kind of disappointing. these heli's shouldn't even be marketed the way they are... instead of 3D, it should say 3 inches (off the ground). hopefully my new setup will make an improvement. I'm not planning to do 3D, I just want a fun flyer.

can anyone recommend pinion size? like I said, I'd like something that will allow me to fly it around the backyard with decent performance and longer battery life...

by the way, anyone else out there in this thread? it was going good until last week!

That combo looks like it should do the job. I'd start with a 10T pinion. Here's a link to a calculator that may help, just select a motor and heli that is the closest match to yours(select a heli with matching main gear size) and it should give you a general idea at what you will be looking at. http://www.e-helis.com/helicalc.php

I was hoping to just pull the 11T off the stock motor and use it. Do you think that will be a problem? How do I tell if it's too big? I don't want to smoke any of the electronics, will a higher tooth count cause it to draw too much power?

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the tension of the tail drive belt? It feels fine, but I have no way of knowing whether it's too tight or too loose. Is there a rule of thumb for tension? For instance I know the tension on my motorcycle drive chain is correct when it has about 1.5" of play up and down. Is there something like this for the drive belt? I assume this belt is just like all the other belt drives out there.

No still have not mustered up the guts to do it myself especially after reading the whoas of embpic1. This will be the weekend as long as taxes go smoothly. I had to re-set the main blade tracking after replacing the main blade holder but she seems smooth as silk on the bench. I only get about 3 minutes and 45 seconds at hover power, held to the bench of course, with all of the stock stuff so I will have to make sure my RC friend keeps it short. It's clear some upgrades are in order although I have not had any of the reported servo problems. When Hooobby.com sent the replacement parts the main blades were missing. I emailed them and had them in 5 days at no charge, no questions asked so kudos to them. I intend to take video of the first flight and will post it, crash or not. Have fun.

11T will give you a couple hundred rpm or so more head speed and will use more power (not so much as to worry about smoking anything, your esc is good for 25/35amps and as long as your battery is up to it) but it may just be what the 37 needs...be sure to use some kind of loctite or glue since the pinion has been installed and being reinstalled or it may slip on the shaft later unexpectedly...

It's the set of three T-Rex main gear pinions. That way I'll have a choice from 9T, 10T, or 11T. I also got my brushless and ESC in. I've never seen shipping so fast. It was like three days from Taiwan. WOW. Its a great looking motor and feels really solid. I haven't run it yet because I'm waiting on the LIPO and Pinion. Couldn't get the pinion off my stock brushed motor. Basically ruined that motor by pulling the whole shaft out. The pinion wouldn't budge. I tried heat but still nothing. Oh well, those motors are cheap and I don't plan to go back to brushed anyway. The T-Rex pinons have allen wrench set screws so I'll be able to take them on and off a bit easier.

Next time you pull a pinion if you don't have a pinion puller use a fork to hold it and hammer the shaft out with something like and old 2mm tail shaft or a nail....But do not install the new one by hammering-don't even tap it! This will bend them every time....Only use a vise or press and a little bit of heat on the pinion and try not to heat the shaft. You don't want to bend your new brushless motors 2.3mm shaft. I've found the hard way that's real easy to do...

Well guys I am going to eat my words here. I had stated that the Walkera electrics were pretty much junk with the exception of the servos. Well they are junk too! I was getting ready to fly my 36 after being away for almost a month. I noticed that the rudder servo was not responding. It was getting quite hot actually. Well I removed it and and replaced it with one from my crashed 37. Well after a check of everything she was good to go. I started to hover and after about 5 seconds, the heli pitched backwards and hit tail first. Of course the rotor head exploded and many parts were broken. Turns out the elevator servo had failed. Well guys I am here to tell ya. GET RID OF THE WALKERA SERVOS! [:@] Time to order some Hitec 55s.

I bet if all of us got together and lined up all of our failed walkera servos side by side the line would reach from here all the way to back China![>:] But don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Walkera because if it wasn't for them bringing their helis into the market at a more affordable price I wouldn't be getting to fly an rc-helicopter and get enjoy this hobby today.[8|]
