Dana - sorry to hear you won't be able to make it, but I guess one has to work for a living, eh?

Looking forward to seeing you at some of the other races, and maybe at our race next summer! Hope some of the guys that have been flying with you make it up, we'd be glad to have you at our races!

Gordon

No I don't have it ready yet, it sits there in the middle of my bench holding off all other projects. The pushrods guides that we're in it wouldn't pass the pushrods, so I took them our as I'm going to use the carbon fiber rods anyways, which means coming in from the bottom BUT the angle is too shallow. My reciever and battery are too big to put back there in back and the one hour a day that I was going to work on it has instead been appropriated by gardern, motorcycle, work, work. So much for this season. I'll get it working here in a week or so and plan on getting used to it for next season. Mostly I need to get it off the bench and get on to other projects. OH well, I went from flying once or twice a week in the spring to once or twice a month this month.

How about flying a race circuit in 2008, such as Wichita, Copan, KC, Joplin, and another this summer? I can get the Joplin field flyable for two pole 660' 10 lap pylon racing. We could race 2-pole 1000', 7 laps in Witchita, and the three pole short course in KC. It would be like the different races of NASCAR, with each track being different. Joplin would be flying start, take off and land on short grass, cut flags at both pylons. I like the idea of adding 10 sec. to cuts. We could race three classes, the Q-500 (424), the Formula 1 (421), and the Skyraider. Unlike Witchita, we would not have to be flying over campers. We have a big area out of town.
If interested sign on, we will set dates.

I will talk to the copan club and see make sure we can do it there. I will also measure the field and see how much room we have between pylons.

Dana,

I think the circuit idea would be great. Though I’m not sure how many of the KCRC crew would travel, but I’ll check around.

Local support for the races would be a must to help sustain the series. If only a couple club members participate, plus the 6-10 travelers, membership can quickly get frustrated with shutting the field down for a full day to accommodate a dozen or so racers. Then spread those people out over 2-3 events and it looks even worse. Not to mention, the club has to clear some $$$ to help justify the field shut down and provide ammunition to fend off the nay-sayers.

KCRC has 2 races on the calendar for next season. These will again be 424 ONLY on the AMA short course. Everyone (rookies and veterans alike) had such a good time, I see no reason to change the format. The Fly-Off round is a must again as well…

Dates:
April 26th, 2008
October 4th, 2008

To my knowledge, there have been only a handful or 421 events ever held. Those took place at Airpark Elite CO where the class was developed. Perhaps they fly it at Wichita as well, but other then Tallman I’ve never raced with any of those folks and don’t know if any would travel. IMO, we should stick to 2 classes, Club 40 and 424. These are both low dollar classes to get going and provide a natural progression for folks that have never raced. If we want a greater speed differential we can play with lower pitch props (11 x 4?) but think the TT Pro .40 would be a good motor to require. I also like the clause about using an alternate motor for the first couple races that APRA uses.

KCRC will continue to be 424 ONLY because for a one day race, I don’t feel the burden of 2 classes is worth it. Though at some point I think we’ll need to split folks up into a Silver and Gold Cup arrangement. Perhaps everyone flies together, but trophies are awarded for each category. Once a certain time is broke or a X number of contests are won, the competitor moves to the Gold Cup… Need to put our heads together on this one.

Scott and Dan will both be on diaper duty next season, so the closer to home races will be much more attractive. To be honest though, it’s hard to get revved up about 2-pole racing, been flying on the 3-pole course on and off since 1986, it’s kind of in the blood. Though to be fair, I’ll save my judgment till after I try it (once).

Keep up the good work.

Hey AJ - come on down here and fly some 2 pole (club 40 and 424) with us in South Texas! Some of your Pylon "buds" are having fun with us. I think even Lee L., Pat and Mike W. are going to take a little time off from combat and fly with us next season!

Dana, Is there enough room to run the short three pole course in Joplin? I don't mind two pole but I'm not much for the flying start. Joplin is close enough for a race and back home in the same day, So count us in. Try not to sch. on a day with any other races in the area and I think you will get racers from several cities within easy driving distance. Plan it they will come!! Eddie ( P/S make you a deal on a Cosmic Wind! LOL)

Chuck,

That’s a long haul for us (750 miles), especially for 2-pole.

Maybe we can put together a North-South Shootout race someday somewhere in the middle.

I’m sure Lee and the Wilcoxs will be excellent competitors. After they find out how much fun it is, their 1 year break from combat may turn into a permanent break like it did for me…

I think that copan will be a two pole only course. We only have 200 feet between the runway and the trees.

AJ
Had such a good time in KC three pole and also in Witchita 2 pole 1000'.
There is room in Joplin to set up anything we care to run. We have no paved runway to land on, just short grass, mostly bermuda. We could do the three pole longer course if it will motivate more people to come. Standing start would be fine. We have about 1500' between tree lines, so we have room to play. We just have to move north in the flying field a little.
You are right AJ, about the local support. At this point, I do not have the number of workers it would require to run a good race. Your volunteers and the volunteers in Witchita were just fantastic, to sit in the hot sun watching screaming little planes fly around pylons all day long must take dedication and some type of internal motivation. I would have to get that and the club backing to run a good race.
How bout I set a date and then work on the details. If I do not get the volunteers or the flyers, then I will cancel.
What date would work for those looking into this post? I am thinking one of the weekends in July.
Club racers and Q500 sound good to me, with a one day event. not sure of Sat or Sun is best. Our field is more open on Sat., but more events are also planned for Sat.
Build it, they will come.
I get motivated better by deadlines than dreams.
Looking to beat you again, Eddie
Let's get our heads together for this one.
Dana

Dana - please get Carl M. from the Barnstormers or myself in the loop, as we're planning a couple of races next summer, too - the first will be shortly after the KC race, we're hoping that we can borrow the equipment from AJ before it has to go back, so we're looking fairly early May, I think. That one will probably be 424 only, the turnout at the KC race was VERY encouraging. In the fall we'll do another one, possibly two days, with 424 one day and perhaps 428 and our MVVS /Rossi class another day.

Sounds like there is gonna be some racing in the midwest next summer!

Fizz
I could race more than just a few times this summer. It would be OK.
Yes, I will get Carl and others in the loop.
If 424 will be the ticket to getting a bunch of guys together, then 424 it will be. I know I'm ready!
