Dana, I think the circuit idea would be great. Though I’m not sure how many of the KCRC crew would travel, but I’ll check around. Local support for the races would be a must to help sustain the series. If only a couple club members participate, plus the 6-10 travelers, membership can quickly get frustrated with shutting the field down for a full day to accommodate a dozen or so racers. Then spread those people out over 2-3 events and it looks even worse. Not to mention, the club has to clear some $$$ to help justify the field shut down and provide ammunition to fend off the nay-sayers. KCRC has 2 races on the calendar for next season. These will again be 424 ONLY on the AMA short course. Everyone (rookies and veterans alike) had such a good time, I see no reason to change the format. The Fly-Off round is a must again as well… Dates: April 26th, 2008 October 4th, 2008 To my knowledge, there have been only a handful or 421 events ever held. Those took place at Airpark Elite CO where the class was developed. Perhaps they fly it at Wichita as well, but other then Tallman I’ve never raced with any of those folks and don’t know if any would travel. IMO, we should stick to 2 classes, Club 40 and 424. These are both low dollar classes to get going and provide a natural progression for folks that have never raced. If we want a greater speed differential we can play with lower pitch props (11 x 4?) but think the TT Pro .40 would be a good motor to require. I also like the clause about using an alternate motor for the first couple races that APRA uses. KCRC will continue to be 424 ONLY because for a one day race, I don’t feel the burden of 2 classes is worth it. Though at some point I think we’ll need to split folks up into a Silver and Gold Cup arrangement. Perhaps everyone flies together, but trophies are awarded for each category. Once a certain time is broke or a X number of contests are won, the competitor moves to the Gold Cup… Need to put our heads together on this one. Scott and Dan will both be on diaper duty next season, so the closer to home races will be much more attractive. To be honest though, it’s hard to get revved up about 2-pole racing, been flying on the 3-pole course on and off since 1986, it’s kind of in the blood. Though to be fair, I’ll save my judgment till after I try it (once). Keep up the good work.
