My question is for Mglavin, Is there any way around the compatibility issue with the 5955's working with Futaba PCM on a wye harness for 2 aileron servos for each surface. I plugged both aileron servos into a Futaba MSA-10 and they both worked fine. Do you see a problem doing this? I would be useing one MSA-10 for each wing half. I really do not want to have to pull all of these servos and ship them to HITEC. If the hardware update is the only fix what is the turn around time for this?

First you should discern if the servos in question are in need of the update for Futaba PCM? Utilize a wye and drive two servos from a single channel source for evaluation.

Utilizing the MSA-10 is an excellent approach and will serve you well.

Turn around time is typically 10 days.

Thank you for responding. I have used a wye and one servo works fine. When I plug in the other one neither one of them work. I have a MSA-10 and plugged both servos into the MSA-10 and then into a single output on my RX. They both worked fine. I was planning on using two of the MSA-10's to keep the voltage loss down, or do you think one MSA-10 would be sufficient in doing this. This is a 40% aircraft and big bucks. I do not want to take any chances in overloading or having a problem with using the MSA-10. Thank you again for your help with this.

You have early release v1.04 servos it sounds like to me.

One MSA-10 per wing halve would be ideal IMO.

Make sure and feed the MSA-10 with HD gold plated extensions from an adequate power source. The single most common deficiency is realized of problematic power distribution systems that are not up to the task. HD extensions, switches and the like are paramount.

I will be plugging each MSA-10 directly into a I4C isolator. I am using 2- 4800 Mah Fromeco packs switched separately, with a separate battery and switch for the receiver. I just did not want to have to remove the servos and have the down time associated with sending them back in. If this setup is OK I will use this, this was the best fix I could come up with on this problem. I was unaware that there were problems with the compatibility until I was ready to start programing the servos. Thank you for your help.

Worry not, your proposed equipment sounds like a viable setup to me.

Might I suggest you power the MSA-10s directly with an AUX power pigtail directly from the regulator? Who is the manufacturer of the switches and regulators you’re anticipating using?

The switches are JR heavy duty and the regulators are Fromeco adjustable. Everything is already installed in the plane. I went to program the servos and got everything set up and plugged them into a wye and I had nothing. I really do not want to use separate power for the ailerons...that would mean 2 more switches and 2 more batteries. I want to use the power distribution on the Isolator. I will have 9600Mah on 8 HITEC 5955TG servos for the control surfaces and one HS925MG for the throttle, these packs will be switched separately through the I4C isolator. I will have a separate 2400Mah for the receiver and a separate 2400Mah for the ignition. 4 switches and 4 batteries and regulators. This is what I had intended to use. I will purchase another MSA-10 for the other wing half. I just want to make sure the servos do not try and reboot in flight.

You don't need anymore gear than you presently have NOW, to power the MSA-10's directly. You simply add a pigtail to the regulator outputs on the regulator PCB. Fromeco can do this for you or its easy enough for someone with limited soldering experience. The switches should be ahead of the regulators eliminating the need for additional switches and batteries.

Its all good, I simply believe minimizing connector counts, gadgets and electrical losses is a good thing. Your proposed system is well proven by many GS modelers.

If I were to rig a model similar to what you’re contemplating I would use Fromeco’s FAILSAFE switched regulators plugged directly in to the RX and MSA-10’s. This eliminates several connectors including the JR switches and and contacts.

Thank you very much for the info. I was not aware that you could pigtail the regulators to the MSA-10. I will do this to ensure that I have enough voltage to all servos. Again thank you for responding so fast and you have eased my mind on this compatibility issue. I agree on as few gadgets and plugs, thus eliminating some failure points. All your info is greatly appreciated in this. I have one more question. I have a new servo programmer ordered, I have one borrowed right now that has been sent in and updated...do you know when HITEC will ship these out to their distributors.

Were waiting for the programmers to hit the dock now, Customs and on to Poway, CA then off to distributors. I would expect at least another 30 days or so.

I have a 46% bipe w/2 ail servos per wing. I was going to gang either 4 Hitec 5955's or 5945's from each side of the plane (RH upper 2 & RH lower 2 goes into one unit) and do both sides of plane into it's own MSA-10. So 1 MSA-10 would drive the RH side and one would drive the LH side with 4 servos going into each MSA-10. I want to power each of these individually with a Fromeco 2400Mah 7.4v and a fromeco regulator regulated to 6v.
My main questions are- Can I use lipos and a reg with this MSA-10? And will it work powered directly with 4 Hitec5955's on each MSA-10 without overamping (burning out) the MSA-10? Same question for the 5945'S? Desperatly needing an answer ~~Jack~~

Jack- THe MSA-10 is not a Hitec product so I cannot answer that question. My feeling is that is should not be a problem but you will need to ask Futaba since this is their product.

Why do you want to use a syncronizer anyway? I'd just match the servos with our programmer and use a powerbox or two receivers.
