16t CB or not, you WILL need the washers, one each, between the Ofna mount, and the Traxxas chassis adaptor to keep the Ofna mount from "cocking" sideways in a heavy hit, back flip, cart wheel, or what ever. Cause without those two washers you WILL strip spurs.
Pay specific attention to the yellow axis bjd refers too.....it will bite you in the butt if not set up properly.

I don't understand how the washers could lengthen it, I thought the washers were pushing the mount up, inturn raising the clutch bell to make good connection with the spur gear, I guess I was wrong. If I can't get it to work, I will just buy a 16 t CB. it's no biggie.

Trent.

Its been months since this thread was started, I just ordered a 3.3 Revo last night, I wouldn't dare challenge the darkside, but I'm wondering if ofna fixed the leaks in the crank by now so we won't have to do all that sealing and possibly sending the engine back for repairs.

Everyone seems to have had good and bad issues at different times with the engine, I think I remember someone using plumbers tape to help the carb hold its settings, it kinda starts sounding like a downplayed nightmare.

I have an Hpi MT2 which I use to drive 2.5 revos mad, thats after I put the 2 speed in, but the O.S. .18CVR has a strict diet for spur gears, I'm just looking to step into the bigger class with awesome potential from a more robust machine. With the stretched chassis on the new revo and the picco .26 it should be the ultimate track monster-truck, with an ungodly 2.7 hp to boot.

Everyone sounds pleased with it as long as it stays running, but after all bugs are gone is it as faithful as an O.S.?

I have the Picco .26 in my Revo, and it's been flawless. It mounted up fine with the ofna mount, everything lined up and stayed that way. Tuning has been an absolute breeze, I set it up the first day and have barely had to mess with it since (1 gallon ago). It has so much more power than the Traxxas engines that I really never feel the need to lean it out too much. Keep a nice strong smoke trail going with low temps and it will still have enough power to flip a Revo at just about any speed on grass. Run the biggest pinion and smallest spur you can find, the motor will pull it easily. I run 17/36.

The Ofna mount issue is a very simple thing. When I bought my Ofna mount, I clearanced it and the stock mount side brackets a little in a few different places with a dremel. I have enough adjustability to run every combo I've tried, 15/36, 15/38, 16/36, and now 17/36. This is a hobby, a little work and thought up front will keep you from having any of the problems discussed previously.

You don't need any washers if you position all the mount pieces correctly. Loosen all the mount bolts underneath the truck, position everything, then tighten up all the bolts in an order that makes sense. It will fit without any spacer issues.

IMO, there's really no reason to put a spur bigger than the 36 on with this engine. Heck, I'd run a 34 if somebody made one. The 38 and 40 spurs are tailored toward the smaller Traxxas engines. The low end response of the Picco combined with a big spur will make for harsh low end. Just run the 36 and change the pinion to deal with track conditions.

DO NOT USE 15/38 GEARING! The Picco has way to much torque and you will put to much stress on your drivetrain (stress=stipped gears). Use at least a 16t clutchbell. I highly recommend upgrading to Robinson Racing's hardened steel spurs and clutchbells. They will save you the hassle of repeatedly changing plastic spur gears. They aren't cheap, but they may save you money in the long run! Your Revo will still do wheelies with 16/38 gearing. For those of you having gear mesh problems, Get creative with a Dremel or round file and elongate the same hole in the OFNA mount that allows adjustability on the stock mount. Once you've done that, take note of 2 other areas that limit adjustability. The first is just below the outside rear engine mount screw (1 of 4 screws that fasten the engine to the mount). Remove some metal where the OFNA mount comes in contact with the chassis half of the mount (stock) to allow the mount to drop lower in the chassis. Next, take note of where the squared off portion of the Picco's crankcase (base of the engine) comes in contact with the chassis half of the mount. Grind or file some material off the square portion of the crankcase.DO NOT GET CARRIED AWAY WITH THIS STEP, REMOVE JUST ENOUGH MATERIAL TO ALLOW THE ENGINE TO SIT LOWER IN THE CHASSIS. Following these steps should allow you to install a 16 to 18 tooth clutchbell. Use a small piece of paper between the spur and cluthbell to set the gear mesh. I would post pictures but I don't have a camera.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing.

Have you tried 18/36 yet? Mine is still a wheelie monster with 17/36, so I'd like to try the 18 for even more top speed.

I finally joined the dark side today. I bought a spankin' new picco 26 off of Ebay and I'll get it next week. Hello wheelie bar!

I have one question.....

Will the stock gearing in my 2.5R T-Maxx work with a beast like the picco 26?

If you put some washers directly under the motor mounting lip where it bolts to the mount, it will help lift the motor to give better mesh...any simpler and ill have to post a pic...but im a mac guy and rcu is PC-afied.

Late response...ooops!

No, I haven't gone bigger than 16/38 gearing but I have a 17t clutchbell to try. I use Robinson Racing hardened steel gears, they're the only way to go when using big horsepower.

OK guys, I understand what BJD was talking about with the mount. Tripower, next time you have your mount and engine out, could you take some pics of the mount and do a somewhat detailed walkthrough on how to make it fit? I have a dremel kit and if it is only a bit of work I'd much rather do that than have to do the ghetto thing with the washers, if it takes to long then the washers aren't a problem.
