My pinion experiment is coming to a close. I was able to get it running with a 5mm bore 12t pinion, I had to mount the motor on the opposite side of the transmission case. I used a clodbuster adjustable motor mount. BUT, the wires were rubbing on the tire and I could not leave it like that. I did find/ordered a 5mm bore 10t pinion, hopefully it will be long enough to reach. If it works out I'll post a link.

I found a 5mm bore pinion. its 10t, 32p, matches the stock one
http://www.liquidrc.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=58741
the shaft of it is a little thick, I had to dremel a little bit of the opening (inside the trans case, under the adapter) for it to clear. otherwise a good fit. long enough to fully engage with the spur, I do have it mounted near the end of the shaft for furthest reach.

Really nice LB Shenlonco! Liked it so much I quoted your post so the pics show up again. Great job. I really like the alternate green color scheme and actually considered paintin mine in a softer, lighter blue as found in the original Tamiya promo video that can be found on YouTube.
Here's the link to the video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPJNXVZh2ns&feature=related, it's 4:20 long.

I actually have another design in mind for the stock body that I am keeping under wraps for now until it's done.

Can I ask where you bought the Parma body and how much they cost? I like the idea of using it as a back up body shell and keeping the original one for shelf duty considering how much time and effort I'll have into it when it's all said and done. I am brand new to RC at 43 years young and love Tamiya kits. I have built numerous static kits in my youth and never really got rid of the addiction. This is my very first RC and feel like I made the right choice. I t was between this and the Pumpkin. When I was younger, I really wanted a Clod Buster, so we'll see how this hobby goes and maybe I'll end up with one of those too?

Post more pics of alternate painted LB's everyone!

Here's mine so far. Just still need a charger for the new battery I just bought, a 5000mAh NiMH and some batteries for the remote and I'm good to go bodyless.

Mine came nearly assembled, rtr, but without a painted body and with some nice upgrades like the wheels, full ball bearings, and a brand new Futaba radio, mid grade 2PH-AM 2 channel 2 servo radio. I got a really good deal from a fairly local enthusiast and can't wait to take it on it's first run. We got some snow yesterday, and missed the chance to throw some snow with it.

What does everyone use for batteries in their radios? Should I use run of the mill Duracells, or get some rechargeable ones? Do radios really use them up?

Thanks!

Thanks for the tips and photos. Those AA batteries seem like they'd last so long you'd barely need a charger, but of course I will. Which one goes with that set? Also, any thoughts on a decent charger for my NiMH?

Anyone have a spare wall charger they don't need?
I don't want to drop a lot of coin on a fancy twin charger that I don't need right now and may not have another car for a long time, Lunchie might be it for a while? Just trying to get this one up and running on a low budget.

Couple other things I noticed cause I'm a noob. When spinning the wheels and tires freely, there seems to be a slight out of balance issue as has been mentioned by others. It appears that they are glued. When gently trying to peel back the sideall there is no give, so I assume they are? I guess this wobble is somewhat normal and par for the course? Since they appear to be glued there's nothing I can do about it now. Another thing is when simulating a wheelie by moving the back suspenion the right rear shock hits on the engine, binding up. Is this situation curable with CVA's or is this just another lovable feature of the box?

Anyway, here's how he installed the electronics in the chassis, and I know nothing about moving them or re-mounting them. My radio is a Futaba as mentioned above and I guess this is the corresponding receiver in here?

Thanks again for your patience and understanding. I can't wait to hold the radio and run this thing around the yard and find places to take it to.

Todd

a cheap ac dc charger like this should be good enough.
http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-dyc-1003-accharger-blue.html

If you have a 12 volt power supply or car battery this will work also

I even looked at this charger, http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html, but can't see what I need which is a Tamiya plug included with this one or the Dynam?

They are also out of stock on the charger for the AA 8 pack radio batteries for a couple weeks. Uhgh!

Can't seem to see the charger?
anyhow you can use these chargers to charge the 8 AAs also you just need a 8 AA holder you can get them from radio shack.

And you can use the chargers aligator clips to charge a tamiya connector pack ...but if i was you i would switch those tamiya plugs out in a jiffy they SUCK get deans or better yet traxxas type power conectors.

O and yes the shock hits the motor... you can stop this by degreasing out the slot the front gearbox swings up and down in and CA glue a thin rubber section up in the tops of it so the rear won't swing up to full at the top of the slot and this will stop the motor and shock from hitting... But i just left my pumpking and box the stock way no big deal

Been trying to get through this epic thread the past couple days, a few pages at a time, only up to page 20! This might take a month or more. On the plus side, I did order and receive, very quickly I might add, a new Parma body and a Tamiya shock kit, part number 50520. This is the short shock set and not sure they are the right ones to replace the stock shocks, but think one will be good for the third shock use and I'll have a spare. I ordered everything from Everthing RC and they are great. I actually won them on eBay as a But It Now, free shipping and prices were great. I highly recommend them for your needs.

Hi, I have a Lunchbox re-release, here is a list of mods i've done to it;

Oil shocks
3rd/5th shock
Soft springs
Aluminium body mounts (lunchbox)
Ballbarings
Chrome wheels (standard lunchbox/pumpkin type)
Sport tuned motor

Me and the family love the lunchbox, Im waiting for payday so i can buy a second kit for a Midnight Pumpkin shell i got from ebay. Does anyone know of Aluminium body mounts (pumpkin type) on the market? if not i have a guy who will reproduce and sell them, but didnt want to do it if there already about. Im just scared i'll break them as the standard lunchbox ones didnt last long.

The new kit will get all the same mods as above. but probably get my Tamiya dirt motor instead of another sport tuned. Anyway, here is my pumpkin, not the best paint job, went over the lines a bit  its rover white (more cream in real life) and ford signal green (looks bright in the pic) PS sorry its massive

Looks pretty cool.
On the pumpkin body mounts don't worry about them they are strong unlike the lunch box ones.

Me and my son have had the lunchbox for about two years now and unfortunately have neglected it over the past couple of months. I've read through this forum once before but that was at the start of the build and noticed a few more pages have been added since. We are now wondering what we could do to improve the durability of the truck and be able to use in this rubbish british weather. its pretty much standard apart from the bearings. if someone could point us in the right direction of what we could do for example a list of changes or added parts we would be very grateful. we were also wondering about going brushless as one of or friends mentioned getting a nitro but shelling out £250 for a half decent one just does'nt make sense as i know we could have much more fun with a modified lunchbox.

Thanks

Craig and Ben

Hi if runing the stock esc and you want to go much faster for about $12.00 go ond get yourself a duratrax photon speed 20 turn motor.
Search e-bay or shops on line they are cheap and work great!

Just finished painting my new wheels, they are lunchbox/pumpkin chrome's with a signal green ring, I have painted some springs in signal green and they look good, hopefully going to order a midnight pumpkin kit on Friday to put it all on then we can race the pumpkin against the lunch box

got some other signal green projects to come, like those front body mounts.

I wouldn't worry about servo.. they can take a fair amount of water okay.. I would try to avoid submerged them into the water, however.. but splash water is totally fine.

For ESC, you can either buy the so called "waterproof" ESC to begin with.. or put them in waterproof box.. leave some room for cooling.. !
