Yeah, they are fun and they are tough too.. one of those that you can just bust out and go play, instead of working on all the time...

I've gone and done it................I ordered up a lunchbox today. I also ordered up a full bearing set. I bought it mostly for my son and myself to play with. I mostly build and fly planes, and with him being so young, I dont like to take him with me seeing there is absolutley no shade out there. So.....I figured I could foster his interest in RC with a LunchBox. I've owned a nitro Rc10GT and nitro HPI RS4 previously. Both were fairly tough machines.....but how does the Box handle punishment? I'm just curious as to what I should expect to be tearing up. I can't wait to get it up and running!!!

the lunchbox is tough. i've run it in to all kinds of stuff (not fully recommended) and had my dog chasing it all over the yard and biting it and throwing it around and it's still good to go. the bearings are a very good call. you'll be pleased with that decision. i would recommend getting a decent servo and servo saver. i put a week traxxas servo in there that i had laying around and the stock servo saver and i couldn't steer the thing at all. i replaced it with a metal gear/high torque servo and kimbrough servo saver, and watch out. it doesn't exactly turn on a dime, but it does handle nicely (at least when the front wheels are on the ground and it's not pulling sick wheelies!). hope that's helpful. enjoy the build and the car - it's a fun one!

Yeah, good call on the steering system.. the stiffer servo saver definitely helps!!

I owned a Lunchbox as part of the original release and loved it.

After a LOT of harcore bashing and mudding and such I took the wheelie bar off and changed the bumper with a 4oz steel bar stuck to it to keep the front down.

The best motor I ran in it was an old Trinity Monster Stock motor or a LeMans 240SB from days ago, the later being an insane motor in the Lunchie. After the re-release I have been so tempted since I loved the classic Tamiya cars but my younger brothers Midnight Pumpkin just isn't the same as I remember for driving and handling.

Other classics I owned were a Hornet, Falcon, Fox, Sonic Fighter, and a Boomerang. That Boomerang was insane fast and always wanted another Tamiya 4WD buggy, also want a Twin Detonator or Extreme Blackfoot.

Too many choices I tell ya!!!!!!

Welcome!! You should post some pics of your Lunchbox here!! I'd love to see them!

Tamiya has just released the new DF-03 chassis buggy.. the first one is called Dark Impact.. if you are interested in another 4WD buggy, I'd recommend you looking into that!

I am waiting for mine! It was back-ordered, so hopefully it will get here anytime now!

Thanks for the welcome. I actually sold the Lunchie years ago and my mom still doesn't let me forget about it, she loved to drive it. Currently I have an Evader ST truck, it's fun but not what I remember from the glory days of Tammity kits and fun.

Only problem I had with the Lunchbox was the rear gearbox mounts would break as well as the gearbox constantly pivoting in the slides. Always thought that was a bad design.

Yeah, not a great design, but it has been around for 20+ yrs, so...

I haven't had much problem w/ mine yet.. and I have a brushless setup in it, so the Lunchbox is taking the abuse well.. I did break a front wheel.. due to wild crashes (not hitting anything, but just losing control and flipping all over due to the high speed..)

The other good one I'd recommend is Wild Willy... can't beat it..

That Blackfoot has called my name for years, god I need a new toy! I love the old Tamiya stuff and the trucks were always fun. My Lunchbox had paddle tires on the rear for a bit and I ran it in beach sand dunes and jumping from them all the time. Also did mud running with it.

Thinking about the Blackfoot only because the Lunchbox was always a little tipsy in turns at high speed and the suspension wasn't the best, but the simplicity is what made it so fun!

For those of you who modified the rear end with the 3rd shock.......how about some pics......I would love to see how you did it.

It looks as if I should get mine tomorrow.

Thanks,

Neo
