I have a older DragonFly 22d with the mechanical tail rotor drive. I have replaced the whole assembly. When I give nose right, the slide coller seems to run out of travel and is actually binding and slowing the tail rotor speed down. I believe I can actually see the tail boom pull tail right. I have set up the control arms at 90 degrees to the servo and the tail boom and that reslults in zero pitch on the tail rotor blades. So the heli just spins counter clockwise with the clockwise main rotor running because I can not get enough side thrust with the tail or if I get to the point where it is acutally working the tail rotor slows down. Has anyone had the 22d and solved this problem? How about how much offset the tailrotor blades should have at neutral?

Not sure if this will help you or not, but , look at the pic of the assembly at www.rcandme.com . It shows an already assembled tail steering assembly. Double check that you have the plastic collar with the pin on it facing the proper direction, if it is installed in reverse, it will bind up.

I'm not sure if you fixed your problem or not, but I experienced the same thing you did just today. I replaced my entire tail section with the new "Z" parts. The steering arm is shaped different than the old part. I had to put a Z bend in my tail servo rod to make it short enough to work the rotor correctly. The way I set up my rotor blades was, with the tail facing me and the rotor blades in line with the tail boom, the trailing edge of the closest blade to you will be tilted about 5 to 10 degrees to the right side of the heli. Setting up like this I need to give a little left trim. I'll probably tweek the adjustment a little more later as necessary. Hope this helps, Don

Don, thanks for the help. Did you also replace the holder? I noticed that the rotor shaft on the z part is longer than the original. If I pushed the retainer ring in where it rest against the bearing the shaft was pushed over far enough to allow the drive pit to actually fall out of the shaft outside of the housing, and it did. It just looks like there is too much travel on the bellcrank. I bottom out on both ends.

Yes, I replaced the entire tail assemble with the "Z" parts, Tail boom and all. The tail boom is a hair longer, the entire steering assembly is a different (and i think better and stronger) setup. The new steering arm is held on the "gear holder" by a small brass bushing that comes in the linkage set and is held on by a screw, ( screw with coarse self_tapping threads) From the screw set I ordered too.
I had a feeling that most of the "Z" parts were going to be different so I ordered just about everything to rebuild my 22d from www.rcandme.com
Hope this helps, Don

I just received my order of the steering gear set part no. HM22D-Z-23. I'm not happy at all with what Walkera did here. The gears are plastic. Very poor decision on Walkera's part. This is sure to reduce the sales of that helicopter.
