Hello!

I am going to install a YS63 in my GP Venus, this will be my first time using and setting up YS engines so I have some questions.

1. I often see YS powered pattern planes with two lines of fuel tubing coming out of the fuselage or cowl side in a U shape. Why is this done exactly?

2.Do you use a two line tank or three lines?

3.What is a good procedure to break in the motor?

4.What are good intial needle settings.

5. Anything to watch out for?

thanks

Filip

The two lines you see coming out are the vent and fuel lines to the tank. Since the vent is fed crankcase pressure via a one-way valve, you need to open both lines to get fuel in.

I use two lines on the tank. Instead of the U-links, I put a tee in each line, going to fuel dots in the side of the fuse.

The break in procedure in the instructions works fine. I started off with 12x6 APC, then moved onto a 12x7 after a gallon or so.

The initial needle settings in the instructions work fine.

Remember to release the pressure in the vent line before you open the fuel line.

If the idle is the slightest bit lean (due to weather conditions or whatever), a misfire will launch plastic spinner parts across the pits. I tried all the brands before I bit the bullet and bought a nice Tru-Turn. The engine can sit there chugging away quite happily, with no real sign of anything wrong, and then the spinner explodes without any warning. This is why the engine comes with a locknut. The Tru-Turn adapter nut is a locknut too.

As has been mentioned many time, filler valves are more trouble than they're worth. The simple fueling systems are used because they are reliable.

YS 20/20 fuel works well. I use Powermaster brand. If I'm in the mood for power, I use Coolpower 30 % heli fuel. The downsides of the 30% are cost, fuel consumption, mess from the oil, and the smoke trail makes errors in your manoeuvres really obvious to everyone watching .

I tried Enya #3 and OS F plugs. The #3s can work OK, but the F plug does work noticeably better. It seems a lot more tolerant of mixture settings, and the flooding or whatever that goes on with inverted mounting.

I can sometimes flip start it first thing, if I get the prime just right, but usually have to resort to a starter. It will always start with a quick bump of the electric starter if everything is OK.

Phil, that looks like a lot of work to just refuel. Anyways how you like that YS63 you got from Steve? Steve couldn't put up with that YS anymore, he just couldn't get it to work right. It just won't stay alive in the air. Hope it works for you. See at the field.

Meyrick,

Refueling is easy.

1. Pull the dots out of their receptacles.
2. Remove the plug from the vent line.
3. Remove the plug from the fuel line.
4. Insert fuel nozzle into fuel line.
5. Pump until fuel squirts out the vent
6. Replace plugs.

If you remove the fuel plug first, the remain fuel is squirted over the person standing next to you. I soon learnt not to point the fuel line towards myself .

The engine I got from Steve is still in the box. My post is based on the other YS63 I have, which is in my Tai-Ji. No real problems for more than a year, 'till I busted the landing gear.

I just bought a Hayes fuel tank, is this a good one for YS engines. I noticed It has a different tank plug than the standard screw method- will that hold the pressure?

Filip

Have a look at the following link, I think that will help.

Best wishes
