Hello!

I am going to install a YS63 in my GP Venus, this will be my first time using and setting up YS engines so I have some questions.

1. I often see YS powered pattern planes with two lines of fuel tubing coming out of the fuselage or cowl side in a U shape. Why is this done exactly?

2.Do you use a two line tank or three lines?

3.What is a good procedure to break in the motor?

4.What are good intial needle settings.

5. Anything to watch out for?

These are typically "fuel dots" with out the fuel dots and T fittings. If you look closely you will find a connector in the lines where they are outside the cowl.[QUOTE]

Two lines -- since you MUST open the vent line between the tank and the check valve it makes little sense to have a third line.

The break in procedure in the manual worked well for me. It's basically run it rich for about 20 minutes before flying. I also like to start off by letting it run about 3-4 minutes, stop it and let it cool, then repeat.

Leave the low end alone, and remeber to turn CCW to lean... The manual says what to set the high needle to, I think it's 2 1/2 turns out... My manuals are in the garage so I'll check them later and update if needed...

Mind blowing power and acceleration!! :D The most common problem will be something going wrong with your tank. Keep and eye on the stopper and ensure that the tank can hold the pressure. I needed to turn the regulator in 1/2 turn on my last YS .63. The screw head should be flush with the crankcase. Do search here on RCU for YS regulator and you will find more info.

My YS 63s are extemely powerful and are a joy to fly!

The ltwo lines you see comming out of the fus' are not fuel dots.

One just runs the two fuel lines from the tank towards the engine and exits them just before the bulk head. you then drill two new hole after the bulk head and pass the two lines into the engine aera and conect them.

Where the two line exit the body (in the U shape you've seen) Brake both. On the fuel-in line fit a filter... on the return line a simple joiner(bit if brass pipe.)

When it's time to fuel up, disconect the return line first...you'll hear the pressure escaping, the disconect the filter and fuel up in that line.

I just got a Hayes brand fuel tank will this one hold up to the pressure? Also I noticed it has a different way to secure the tank plug, it doesnt use a screw but just plugs into the tank and is secured by a steel ring will this leak?

I recently asked this very question and was assured that they work great! I have the tank, but lost the model in a mid-air before getting to try it...

I use a Hayes 12 oz. Slimline tank with my YS 63 and it holds the pressure great after about 30 flights so far. I can come back an hour later, and when I disconnect the check valve there is still that reassuraing WHOOOOSH of air coming out of the tank. Now getting the engine dialed in perfect is another story... yes I love my YS but she's always changing her mind. What is a typical low end setting on this engine, can anyone tell me? When I follow the directions on the ysperformance site, I end up with 3.5 turns out, and this just seems like way too lean to me?

Frank, I have come to the conclusion that the number of turns is not a reliable way to set up an engine, for instance my YS .91 FZ runs at 4.5 turns out and my .53 FZ runs at 2 and maybe two and a quarter..

Yes, I would tend to agree with you, but all the YS info I've been able to get my hands on makes me think anything over 1 turn out is too lean. I worry, because this engine was expensive, it's my first 4-stroke so my experience is limited in this area, and I'm not sure I'd recognized detonation when I hear it. Is it an obvious or subtle sound?

Is is possible that you mean *less* than one turn out being possibly too lean?

Are these air bleed carbs?

I could swear that my YS140 has the main needle turned CW to lean....Maybe the YS 63 is different?

this is the low end screw, and yes it's air bleed, so it's action is opposite of the main needle. The main needle is a joke to dial in, no prob there, it has been hummin at 1.5 turns since it broke in, turning a 12X7APC at around 11,000 rpm. It's a rock steady idle, and good transition after idling awhile, that I'm having issues with.

You might want to adjust the regulator! Back off the low speed needle a turn and turn in your regulator about 1/8 to 1/4 turn. And then try to readjust the low end. Also richen up the hi end about a qtr turn. The regulator still regulates the amount of fuel being pumped and we adjusted the regulator for the low end way before they had separate low end adjustments on the newer motors.

FilipM I also have the GP venus 40. Started flying it last week. I have a 17 year old Enya .46 4C installed from an old Sig Kavilier that I used to fly. I just got back into the hobby after all these years. Way under powered with this engine. Let me know how the YS 63 works on this model. I was thinking of the Saito 72 but after reading all the posts I think I will go with the YS. My Enya keeps quiting everytime I do a negative manuver(except inverted passes). I like the idea of pressurized fuel delivery. Good luck with your Venus. It flies rock steady. Great knife edge.

I am not sure if anyone can say which fuel is the best.
I ran Coolpower 10% ~ 25%, Magnum #1 & 2, Powermaster YS 20/20 etc. All worked fine.
Since Magnum is closer that other companies, I mainly order directly order from Magnum fuel. Lowest price fuel compared to any of hobby stores within 150mile range.
There are other manufacturers also, but the above three are most commonly used in NSRCA D8 contests.
