Not the Tyco or the Nikko you got for xmas when you were 3...but the first real one that you had to build, paint, repair, and modify?

Mine was the Tamiya Frog.

I loved this thing! It was pretty darned fast even with the stock 540 motor. After a while my Dad and bent some steel tubing and fashioned a bumper for the thing. It was indestructable! A little heavy, but it managed to maintain it's speed.

After that I had a Fox. A bit faster and it looked way mean!

What about you?

PS: To bring back some memories..here's a cool site that's got lots of the older kits for trade/sale. Don't get too nostalgic!!

My 1st car was a Pegasus(sp) Exceed.(1/10 scale) 4wd, 4ws, 3diffs. it was a buggy that wieghed like 300 pounds at least it seemed like it. I dont know if Pegasus(sp) made any other cars at the time. It was like 16 years ago. then I moved to two wheel drive. and bought a Kyosho Ultima. this was back when the RC-10 1st came out. hehe. . bought a 240st motor for it. figured that was too slow then I bought a Joel Johnson championship 1987 motor. . don't remember the turns or anything like that. but I still have the motor.

I dropped out of the sport for about 15 years and last month bought my 1st nitro car(road) and since its cold I just bought a Losi XXX-s for practice.

I remember the 240s! I got a 240sb for my Fox. I think it was mismatched...it was a 31,000 rpm motor (back then that was like INSANE! lol). I think it was meant for on-road but I was using it in the dirt anyway. Did a good job and didn't burn out for at least a year.

I still have parts jars with tie rods and body posts and stuff for these cars in my tool box. Guess that means I really need to clean out my tool box, huh? I guess I've held on to this stuff thinking that someone somewhere may need a Fox BEC tray. lol

I am guessing that sometime near 16 years ago is when I got my Hornet. I remember that I was supposed to put it together with my dad, but he would up doing just about everything! Then I remember that it seems liked the car went faster in reverse that it did forward, and that got me into trouble. I went full speed backwards into a tree and smashed the gearbox into pieces!
Also, when I was a kid I had one of those thermal detection chargers. Well, one time the rubber band broke and since I was not home (I was up the street playing) the battery continued to charge, proceeded to melt the casing on the hump pack, and finally erupted all kinds of toxic fumes! After about an hour on fast charge, our house stunk from top to bottom!

Ahh the good ol' days of R/C.

Mine was a grasshopper in the mid 80s. It was very fun and was constantly trying to find ways to not burn the MSC. It had a reverse too

I raced it couple of times then changed over to the RC10 gold tub very quickly. Very competitive car with full bearings. Added the novak (or tekin, can't remember exactly) esc and was running (I believe) an 800mah??

Heck ya..why grow up when you can stay a kid forever!!! We get older, and the toys get better and better.

I hear y'all on those MSC's. I remember once I had just charged the batts for the Frog, got it set up and ready to go after a tune. Put it on the ground, flipped the switch, gunned the controller and a big POOF of smoke erupted from under the body. I FREAKED and didn't know what to do (I was like 10 or something). I hesitated and then snapped the body pins off and threw off the lexan that had already started to melt. The MSC had gone into complete meltdown because it got stuck on one of the terminals. lol Things are quite a bit better built these days.

My first car i got bout 4 years ago. It was Team Associated RC10T2. It was great! I didn't know about camber, what tires did, what motor, I just wanted to have fun, and fun I had!!! That's why I tink everyone got into r/c cars, to have fun! So, don't worry about all the new, fastest, and prettiest gear. JUST HAVE FUN!!!

My 1st was the Super Champ. What a tough buggy that was! From there I went onto an Audi Quattro and a Baja Beetle. I almost bought a Bruiser, but it was too expensive when I was 15! Too bad i didn't get it!
I got out of the hobby for about 10 years (college, work, family...). When I got back into it, I started with an Ofna Ultra GT. That was a great buggy, but not one to learn nitro on. Now i just can't seem to get enough. I went on to the T-Maxx, Monster Pirate, TTR EB-4, RS-4 3 (my 1st on-road) and i am now checking my mailbox everyday for a 1/5 HARM SX-3 with all the options. Somrbody please help me, I can't stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, mine was the one I still have, although its outdated. Its a Kyosho Mantis GP RWD. I got it in 97 or 98, can't remember exactly. It has never been raced, well on a track at least. I did race my friend against his mom's minivan one time. It is still in excellent shape, the only part that has been replaced is the glow plug. Still has the orginal motor, which has probably had about 1.5 gallons through it. Soon I will probably be getting a nitro TC3 however, because I want something I can road race.

My first car was a Nitro Rustler on which I spent a pile of money trying to make a racer. I raced at our local track for 2 years with it and had a blast though I never won an A main. It taught me a lot and I'm going to apply that knowledge to my new Factory Team and see what happens.
