Here's the Bf 109 E photo back again. The big photo is on its way. You're welcome to download this and take it to the photo place so you've got a print to work with while you paint. I'm not so sure about the desert camo on the rudder. Compliments on your plane, it is looking very good.

I've got no no reference to the tail. In Europe, the tail was yellow. It would have been overpainted in the desert. If they had the sand coloured paint out, they would have daubed a bit of it on the fuselage too - they didn't, so it suggests to me that the rudder was not peinted sand. So I'm guessing that theatre colours would have been applied to the tail. Theatre of war colour for the desert was white I think. I'll do some checking. If it wasn't white then the other likely scenario would be that the rudder would have been painted with dk green at the same time the fuselage number was painted out and the "3" applied.

So...no one has a suggestion for the air leak problem? It is not retract cylinder related.

kahloq,

Its a bit messy, but have you tried the soap bubble method of leak detection. Pressurize your system, put a drop or 2 (eyedropper) of dish soap and water mix (or kids bubble stuff) on the joints, fittings, cylinders (both ends and along the pushrod) and anyplace you suspect might be leaking, one place at a time, if it bubbles, you found your leak. Use some paper towels to pick up any drops that contact raw balsa.

had another so called set back.......went to my local aircraft book shop.....Ian Allan's on the CUT (london) and found a classic colours book......Jagdwaffe...war over the desert.....and found another version on my scheme Bf 109 E-7 Trop 'Black 3' of 2./JG27, Gazala, 1941...this hasn't a yellow based rudder......also light green patches have been applied along the fuz and rudder.....the spinner is also green/white not red/white.....over the weekend i'll attemped to modify my scheme so it's closer to these colours i feel they are alot closer to the real thing...... peter in NZ has also mentioned that he didn't think the rudder was yellow either....and he is one of the top german researchers.....so the story continues!

Re the air leaks, are you using plastic T's? If you are get some made of brass. If you already mentioned the T's, I apologize in advance.

I had the same problem doing mine as one of Adolf Gallands planes, same W.Nr.5819 but 3 different looks. Not completely different but enough to notice! I chose the one that had the most detail. I hope I did the right thing. This is my first attempt at a really nice "kit bashed" scale plane. Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks Kevin
