fldmshlschroe -> KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/15/2006 11:04:05 PM)

Just figured I get a build thread started for everyone..... I am sure this is going to be a popular plane.

Some Pics of the Kit...

The fuse is nicely made, and quite scale looking.. And, yes, the feathers are airfoiled they are nicely covered!!

I can forget about the zenoah.... doesn't look like you will be able to encase anything in there but the rcv cd91 or the sp series

really nice looking cowl!!!

I think I will end up with a 125 saito, or a ys 110/120

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/7.jpg[/image]

The spinner is very nice and worth it. The plane doesn't come with a spinner,, unless you get the optional pictured one.

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/8.jpg[/image]

The only damage was to the airscoop sheet... looks as if the landing gear crushed it during transport, or someone stepped on it at the factory..... I spoke to Don at KMP,,, who was quite helpful, he will send me a new one shortly,,, they should be getting parts in in about six weeks or so. I am glad to deal with a company that has good customer service!!!! They have been on the money with their timing so far,,,

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/9.jpg[/image]

The hardware included is above average for an arf. I was impressed that the gear doors are wooden and of good quality..

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/10.jpg[/image]

The landing gear is 90 degree,,, don't know if i am going to use it,,,, it has a spring retract mechanism,,, only uses air pressure in one direction...... the wing dihedral and shimming is probably what gives the scale look/wheel location...

Has anyone used this type of retract before??? is it reliable???? Don at KMP said that they will be offering scale robart retracts shortly.... Kind of feel that they should not include these retracts.... you should have the option of getting them from who you want...

over all, really great arf... cant wait to get it flying..... KMP/YT has outdone themselves this time.

Let me know if anyone would like any more pics of anything before I get started...

flyrc78 -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 12:10:43 AM)

Ill join you in the build thread. Im putting a Saito 1.50 in mine. I think i will Wedge the gear as suggested by the gentleman from YT Int. Seems like a cheaper easier fix than replacing the gear. They loook rugged enough. Dave

Richard L. -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 12:11:54 AM)

Could you post a picture of the bottom of the wing showing the retract area?

olstoney -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 12:46:42 AM)

What are the formers attached to the FG fusalage with? I might be wrong, but from the looks of the pics, it looks like that crappy hot glue [:'(].

flyrc78 -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:28:21 AM)

The formers are attached with epoxy it appears. here are some pics of my engine install(Saito 1.50)

lownloud -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:37:40 AM)

I just got mine today, spent about 30 minutes playing with it mocking it up and looking it over. I bet I could build this in a long weekend.

I have never seen anything like this before. The quality of the kit and the cool drab paint is breath taking. This is a real work of art.

I'm gonna buy the struts, this plane deserves it.

Kmot -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:46:19 AM)

That certainly is one fine looking ARF kit!! [sm=thumbup.gif]

flyrc78 -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:50:07 AM)

Be warned, with the wing joiner on mine, i had to laminate 1/32 ply to the backside of the left half, and 1/16 to the top of the left half and sand to fit to get a good fit into the left wing panel. Other then that, agree with all of you, it is a Beautiful ARF!!!

fldmshlschroe -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:51:45 AM)

ok richard,, here you go,,,,, This plane has REALLY NICE COVERING!!!!!!! it is really strong, not like monocote, not trying to sound like a newb, but I have never worked with nice cloth stuff like that on a arf before,,,, kinda makes me feel better after paying the price.....

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/11.jpg[/image]

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/12.jpg[/image]

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/14.jpg[/image]

they look like they did a nice job on the retract supports ,,,, that view was from the centersection of the wing,,, look nice and reinforced!!!

[image]http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/ME109BP/15.jpg[/image]

didn't want to open it up all the way yet,,, my bench is at my parents house...

Countryboy -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:54:17 AM)

lownloud,

Dang, that was quick !!! Hard to believe I just had that in my hands two days ago and it now resides in California.

fldmshlschroe -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:57:15 AM)

note taken fly,

I was also debateing a saito 150... I have that setup in my cmp p-40 which is the same size / weight plane.....It pulls like a tractor.. 16x8 apc and it moves right along,

How much does it stick out of the cowl though,,,,, trying to keep it looking as scale as possible...??????

flyrc78 -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 2:07:26 AM)

Not sure how much it will stick out of the cowling yet. Bear in mind, i know it is nice to keep it in the cowling, but you gotta cool that Engine somehow, and that cowl isn't exactly going to get a lot of air to an enclosed engine. I should know in the next day or 2 how much it will stick out. Going to say minimum of all the valve covers

mfranke -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 2:07:54 AM)

Guys
I'm thinking of using the RCV 120 SP or a Laser 120 . Both so the are no protrusions. Has anyone condiered the OS 120AX.?
Thanks
Mark Franke

This is an Awesome ARF. Top Flite should be reading this.

MoNKEyZQ8 -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 2:12:22 AM)

That looks great! Another to add to my wish list!!

Ram-bro -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 2:12:42 AM)

what ar et e dimensions and price of the kit and do they have a web site?

Hellcat716 -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 2:18:10 AM)

I would say a Saito 150 is an over kill. 100 would be about right . I am using a 100 in my 109 and it is plenty.

yes that was quick. I hadnt actually told my wife I bought a new plane. uhh, uhh, wow.

flyrc78 -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 2:48:10 AM)

On the website it says 1.5 4cycle. So, i don't believe it is overkill. I also own 2 of the 100's, love em. Dimensionaly, it is a 1.20 size airplane, and the 1.50 is only 3 tenths of a horsepower more then a 1.20, and the physical dimensions are the same. Who makes the 109 you have? kit or arf? looks good

RAM-bro KMP Website is WWW.KMP.CA, all your pricing and dimensions are on that site

proulxlaw -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 5:07:34 AM)

A 100 would never be enough to power this plane. I have 3 100's. Great motor but, unlikely to haul 12lbs. I would go with a YS 110-140.

Hellcat's 109 is the Skyshark 109E kit. Looks fantastic Hellcat, but they are different sized model. The Skyshark model is smaller and lighter. [;)]

kinverflyer -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 8:16:30 AM)

I have a Laser 120 in mine, the exhaust outlet is flush with the bottom of the cowl. With regard to the retracts they are relay good value for money never had any problems with the ones I use. The dihedral on the wing gives the about the right angle on the U/C, I am waiting on oleos at the moment, to get them flush with the wing I have had to lower the U/C mounting plate. For the elevator I have used a wire joiner with a single push rod down the centerer and to access the coupling for the elevator and the tail wheel I have cut an access hatch in the scope for the tail wheel. I didn't use the plastic wheel well liners I lined mine with 1/64 ply.

mfranke -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 12:53:43 PM)

Is the cylinder head completely enclosed in the cowl? a side view pick would be awesome
Thanks
Mark Franke

SpitfireMKI -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:19:53 PM)

Looks like a decent kit, does it have the horizontal tail braces ?

mobyal -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 1:46:08 PM)

I'm gonna follow this one. Really looks interesting.
What are the dimensions/specs and does KMP have a website?
Thanks

kinverflyer -> RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread (3/16/2006 2:05:49 PM)

The prototype was test flown on an RCV91.
Here's the build thread for the UK http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php?topic=25688.0
