It's a 65mph Stampede!!!! I pulled him into the dark side. Sorry guys.

I'm still here to help though!

As far as the last two MMGT questions, you're much better off asking in the 3.0 threads.

I took my Monster GT out for a little spin at the park on my lunch break today. I got it retuned for the temperature nicely, to the point that it would wheely from a standstill. This is an original .21 we're talking about, so that's an achievement in tuning! So of course, I was driving like a hoon slamming on the brakes then gassing it to wheely and flip over. All of a sudden, I'm doing front wheel only burnouts. Doh! Whatever gave up, it's inside the transmission. Reverse/Forward still works. Guess I can't complain that something finally broke in the transmission after almost 5 years and 10+ gallons of fuel......so, who wants to take a guess what broke?

I bet you broke the 2 speed shaft , right at the pin , or you lost a pin out of the center rear drive cup .

Ding, ding, ding!!! We have a winner! Don't know how I couldn't see that when I was going over it at first, but that was it. Didn't even have to take a trip to the LHS since I has a spare from the last rebuild. So the MGT keeps on truckin' w/o a single internal gear failure yet again. This truck is great.

yeah, about one gallon before it let go in this case. I refuse to use red for anything this small because it winds up stripping allen keys trying to break the bond, but the blue seems to let go over time. small problem either way.

I was screwing around with my MGT today before going in to work and I started hearing a ratcheting sound when accelerating. Naturally, I ignored it and kept driving with it getting progressively worse until I ran the tank dry. I assumed one of the gears in the main trans. was finally letting go, but upon further inspection the rear diff is slipping. Honestly, the ring gear hardly looks worn and the pinion is not in awful shape either, but I can replicate the slipping so I'm pretty sure that's the problem. Reading the parts list, it appears I'm stuck buying a whole new diff for $40 just to get a new ring gear? FWIW, the pinion and shaft is only $10. Kind of annoying because the cases and outdrives look fine, and the spider gears are in good shape too. Anybody know if the ring gear for the 8.0 (which IS sold separately) is bolt-on? Or should I suck it up and replace the whole shebang for $40?

The diffs can be had for like 15 bucks on ebay.
Cheaper than tower has the pinions.

Yep, I found a new complete diff for under $30 shipped last night, so I'm just going to replace it instead of trying to be a cheapskate. The more I looked at it, I could tell the teeth were worn, some worse than others.

Got my new diff installed last night. That, the one center CVD, and the bumper braces I've fixed over time brings the total cost of replacement parts over a 5 year period to about $75. Not too bad for 10+ gallons worth of hard bashing, right?

Good move selling the T-Maxx for an 8.0!!!  The 8.0 is a thousand times better!!!!!!  The Traxxas fools will always say, "You can't get nearly as many hop ups for an MGT."  Who cares if the truck doesn't need hop ups!  AE will ALWAYS smoke Traxxas though.

Yeah i tried a backflip three times and landed perfect all three times and it just shredded things all three times. That was the last straw. I took it inside and put it on craigslist. It took about two months to sell it, because there are about twenty T maxx's on there where i live AND 0 MGT'S. I looked on ebay and there was 1 and it had 2 hrs. left. The rest are being sold by websites.

Probably worth buying a new 8.0 if you can afford it.  They tend to get pretty beat up by previous owners.  Although, they're pretty tough to break so it really shouldn't matter.  The engines are tough and last a long time too; that's what you always need to worry about when buying used.

Yeah i always buy rc's new, because i like to check over everything before i even run it so i know what i need to do. Something i didn't do with my Tmaxx probably wasn't worth the time....

I have to admit, I had my MGT for sale here on the marketplace. I've been doing a lot more racing than bashing the past two summers, and the MGT was getting neglected. Nobody was biting though, so I took it out last week and had some fun with it. The stock .21 was basically covering the truck in fuel goo, it has so much blow-by through the front and rear bearings, not to mention the wobbly rotostart shaft. Still starting and running nicely though it was sensitive to lean condition and shutoff mid-tank a few times until I figured out to richen it up. So, I cleaned it up at home and noticed that the fuel tank filler o-ring was shot, and leaking. Replaced the inner fuel line and the cap with one from my RC8 which I converted to brushless. So add another $5 in parts in what, now, 11 gallons? Running like a champ again, but spewing fuel goo all over still. I finally gave in and dropped in the rotostart-only Pro .28 from the RC8 with the stock pipe and a FT header that I had to mill out to fit the .28. Stock buggy clutch and clutchbell, dropped right in. HOLY COW!!! Izzit SUPPOSED to backflip on grass from a standstill? I have a feeling the plastic transmission gears days may be numbered...
