snowbl!nd -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/18/2006 6:04:53 PM)

I have one, the original with the .21 engine - very pleased with it. Good features, tough as nails and pretty fast too! Many people will say the .21 is underpowered, but it's not really.

I'm going racing with it tomorrow, should be fun. There are a few threads on this forum about the truck, do a search and you'll turn up some good info and loads of opinions from other people who have one.

jombo -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/18/2006 6:28:51 PM)

same here, the 21. very happy with it and very durable.the only thing i changed was the springs to the 6.6 lbs ones or what ever the stiffest ones are.

Rc EnthuSiasTs -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/18/2006 7:09:14 PM)

I also have one with the .21. I really like it, it keeps up with my friends t-maxx, it has tons of power, and it is pretty big. I like it. The only thing i have had problems with is the Drive lines. the cvd's use a lot of screws, and you must thread lock ALL of them. They fall out. But other than that it is great.

spacoli -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/18/2006 7:25:47 PM)

My buddy and his son have two. They are new to nitro and the MGT 4.6 has ben a good truck for them. Seems very durable, easy to tune and keeps a tune and runs great. They never monitor the temps or anything like that, they just go out and run them. The one truck has 6 gallons through it since Xmas. They have had some breakages, but they are beating the crap out of them and it's normal to break stuff. Other than breaking a-arms, bumpers, shock caps came off, they have lost some shafts because of pin screws coming loose. Now that they loctite them they are good.

I have not driven it but I have seen them run and I was impressed.

If I was to get a 1/8 big block MT it would be the MGT. I have a Revo and like it, I have a Revo 3.3 on order.

I would say buy it.

hybridstone -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/18/2006 10:45:12 PM)

I use the dynamite cvd boots on all my cvd's and the larger blue revo one's for the center and have had no issues since. MGT RULES!!!!

Pyrotechnic -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 1:54:21 AM)

can the mgt 4.6 pull wheelies?

claudacio -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 1:58:42 AM)

Some say yes, I say no with the stock engine (wheelie action). I dropped my LST2's m427 (along with some gearing and tire changes) in it and it will wheelie at will and is uncontrollably fast at top speed. Almost as fast as my novarossi powered LST2.

CR500rider -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 4:00:43 AM)

my roommate has an original .21 and i would have to agree, the MGT is a very good and durable truck. just a little slow, and the stock steering servo is sub-par. other than that its definately worth it.

Bria1 -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 5:23:41 AM)

i didnt have to do any of it, my diffs were fine when i checked them i just fild them with silicone oil

snowbl!nd -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 7:47:24 PM)

If you want your diffs to last longer then i'd reccomend it. All you really need is a file, a grinding wheel just makes things easier. I'd do the mod, but can't find anywhere that actually has the correct size washers.

Today i took my stock MT-A4 (.21) here.... http://www.nnrc.co.uk/

Removed the shock spacers to drop the truck and borrowed some half decent pro-line tyres (can't remember exactly what they're called) and the truck was amazing. Handled like a dream, the engine was running perfcetly (one other racer thought it was the .28 it was that rapid). Even pulled a few wheelies. Beat the body up a bit trying (and occasionally succeeding) to clear the table-top. Destroyed the body mounts, but still managed to keep the body on the truck. Snapped a hub when i ran head-on into a HPI Rush at speed, the guy that owned the Rush also had an MGT so he gave me a free hub! Good guy (considering i broke his Rush...) And one of the screws in the drietrain kept coming loose, despite being threadlocked in place! Another racer had spares of those also, and was kind enough to donate four of them.

Went through nearly 1/3 gallon of fuel and only left the track when i ran out of fuel. Great truck!

Pyrotechnic -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 10:23:15 PM)

how long is an average run time for the mgt

snowbl!nd -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 10:52:01 PM)

I'd say you can get about 10 mins on a tank...

Landlocked -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 11:38:04 PM)

I have the new one (4.60 SE). On my fourth tank of fuel something in the transmission let go.

Wondering what will break when it's broken in and leaned out.

After reading the post on how tuff these are I guess I got a lemmon.

I can't get the allen screw out of the drive shaft so I can't get the trans case apart to see what broke.

They must have used red lock-tight on the threads.

Still under warranty so I will let AE deal with it.

Most likely it's either the 1-way hub OR the 2-speed shaft. The gears themselves in the transmission are solid, these two particular parts are "weak links". I have broken each of them using the stock .21 - although the slipper was tighter than reccomended and i was landing a jump when it happened.

alvinl -> RE: Monster GT anyone have one? (3/19/2006 11:54:19 PM)

What slowbl!nd said. I have a friend with the new MGT 4.6 and the same thing happened to him. Although, neither of us were sure he didn't hit reverse coming off a ramp. But he replaced the oneway and something else minor in the transmission.
