Very nice work Sensei, Hats off , just you need the newone BME 55 and put one Hitec
5955 with pull pull Kevlar cable on the elevator one for ruder one each ali one mini digital for thr
2 oz Batteries America 1200 mah for rx and one for ign small drink soda low Weigh tank 12oz
also the low weigh Policover from hobbyLoby it's 30% lighter than Ultracote,Kavan Wheels congrats again very nice work.

Hello 3DExtra,

Thanks for the complement, I am running a 16 oz. Sullivan tank and KAVAN 3.5" wheels, as far as the engine and radio goes. Desert Aircraft and Horizon Hobbies have have gone way beyond the call of duty for me over the years. So I will most likely fly DA engines and JR radio gear as long as I am in this hobby.

Sincerely: Bob Sawyer

i just got one of these yaks and it has some issues under the covering that need to be dealt with, so i am taking it all off and basically doing what sensi did to the tail group. (good ideas, sensi).

would one 5955 on the elevators definetly be enough for hard 3d? i'd love to do this. i did it on a 60 size giles. it was one 625 with split cables going to the elevator halves. it worked very well and saved 2 ounces. i would love to do it on this plane because if i go with a bme 55, i am goin to need a lot of weight to move towards the front!

also, is polycover any good? could i get away with something like econokote for such a big plane? almost the whole plane is sheeted, so i thought a really light covering could be used.

i check inside the wing tube, there is no way to see the joint to the ribs. i think the balsa may have dried and wrinkled a little over the wing tube, causing it to look like it was messed up. i tried flexing the wings and it feels plenty strong. now i need to get an incidence meter and check out the stabs. aerotech, i'll call you this coming week to order the new canopy. hopefully i can buy just the lexan canopy and not the whole fiberglass unit, as i think i can clean up the old fiberglass thing and put a new canopy in it.

Hello Whaturi,

Your 60 size Giles has much smaller surfaces than this 50cc Yak, you would probably experience some blow back on your elevators. You could even experience flutter, so sneak up on this one with caution.

Bob

sensi, good advice. and it happens that i also talked about it with bill and he brought up the point that by the time i build a box to mount the servo on it's side and epoxy it in place and run 4 cables to the back of the palne that i would not be saving a whole lot of weight. also, i don't want my first giant to be underpowered servo-wise. i was jsut overexcited abut lightening this plane.

also, bill and i were in our local hobby shop and weighed 5 rolls of econokote and then 5 rolls of monokote. the result was the 5 rolls of econokote being 8 ounces lighter. i will most likely use econo, since the airplne is almost fully sheeted anyway.

sensi, how did you get the turtle deck off anyway? im not sure if i should go to the trouble to take that ply piece out or not. i am hoping if your goal on this plane is 13.5 pounds that i can reach my goal of 15 even. and that would be without foam wings.

Bob

I'm just read this,Well I have one Dave Patrick Edge 540 & MVVS 45 ,with pull pull (kEVLAR)cable on elevators,I do this because this plane comes tail heavy,I have
more than 150 flights without problems Hard 3D Blender to knife edge spin to
flat spin etc. you can save 2.5 oz servo + 1 oz 36" servo Extension = 3.5 oz and
can put together close to CG thats make a little diference on flight and simplify your
radio installation,I'm fly at 7300 ft altitud here the weight is very important, just
put the heavy duty cleavis Hangar 9 8-32 swivel clevis and horns (roket city)
and some more hinges like Klett giant scale hinges or Robart 3/16 hinges.
hope this help.

thanks 3dextra.

how is the poly cover to work with? i wonder if it is lighter than econokote.

the elevator pull pull was only considered if i waited for the BME 55. chances are i will get impatient and buy a brison instead. in that case, i will most likely need the servos in the tail.
