Default JR Digital servos . What voltage

I am using JR dIgital servos. 8511.

What voltage is it safe to use. I had heard that anything more than 4.8 volts is not good??

Can I use a 5 cell or even a 6 cell ni-cd pack??

Many Thanks

I'm not sure on overseas servos, I would recommend contacting MacGregor for assistance with that, their number is 01753-549111.

Danny,

Can you update your telephone list please. The 01753 number was discontinued when we moved to new premises. New number is 01629 760430.

Cheers,

Let the fun begin.......... JR(JR) manufacture servos for everyone including Horizon (who some call JR) Graupner and obviously for their own market. Some servos that are available from Horizon are NOT available to the rest of the world (ditto Graupner).

If a servo comes from JR (JR) and not Horizon then it will have been specced for 4.8V (UNLESS overwise stated on the packaging box.

We at MacG's will always recommend that a JR servo is run at 4.8V as that is the voltage they have been designed to work on. If you do run it at a higher rating, then obviously the fail rate will increase. Its like a car, if you run a car at the recommended RPM the engine will last but if you run it at higher revs all the time, then something will go bang.

I have requested a complete list of servos from JR(JR) that they manufacture, who for, and what the equivalents are. As yet this information has not come back to me.

The 811 works fine with 6V, as do most JR servos in the US.

Hello Danny,

Well I have some question to about this topic.
I’ve always thought that the US JR digital servo where rated at 4.8-6 Volts (nominal).
Is this so, could I use a Lipo (7.4 V ) regulated to a 6 Volts on my Servo/ Receive withou
any problem, or would the life time be shortened?
If So by how much?

The reason I ask is, that with higher Voltage you’ll get more performance out the servo.
( more speed torque etc)

Scott Gray Has designed just the item that you need...... It takes LiPo levels and gives regulated 5.2V & 5.6 V. (Gyro & Servo)

You can use lithium batteries regulated. I don't recommend lipos for powering the receiver in glow or gas powered models however, the small thin tabs of a lipo can break under vibration. You can use lithium ion however.

Hello Mac_Man_UK,

Thanks for the info, but I will need more than one of those regulators
as I’m planning to use it on a Pattern Plane.

Hello Danny,

I will be using this on an Electric powered plane, so I guess than I’m ok. ?
But could I use 6 Volts on the US JR Digitals Servo & receiver?
Or would the life time be shortened?
If So by how much?

Yes and yes. Higher voltages do reduce lifespan of servos, however the difference between 4.8 and 6 V is generally minimal.
