Dan,

Check RC Scale Builder, there was a guy (Don) building a 1/4 scale HKS (Norm Rosenstock Plans), basically the same as a YKS, different engine. http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8059&KW=HKS

Norm Rosenstock nrosenstock@juno.com 124 Granada St., Royal Palm Beach, Fl. 33411-1307. There is a build thread on R/C Scalebuilders
WACO HKS-7 99.75” 1/4 - $55 (Jan 2006 prices)
74.8” 1/5th - $50

While not exactly the same these are similar possibilities;

AMA Plans Service has 1/6th size plans for Dario Brisighella’s ARE (70" Ws) plan # 50153.

Dario Brisighella BigRagu2@comcast.net WACO ARE (see AMA Listing) 87.5”, 21% Version $65 PayPal, rolled and Shipped USPS Insured

Dan,

Glad to see she was able to be repaired, the last flicks i saw it looked like you tried to rekit her. You did a great job with the repairs, a coat of paint put hre pants on and she'll be hot to trot again. It's been a while since Monster Planes hope all is well, do hope you and your family have a merry xmas and happy new year.

keep her flying,

Dan,

Another possibility is the SRE by Sid Morgan. kvlasblom (WB # 93) is building this plane on the RCU thread at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6978192/tm.htm and doing a nice job of it. It may be a little small at 69.5" (1/6th). Also go to the House of Moy site and check the plans and document list (it needs updating, not all places listed are still around or have moved)

Looking at the box, the kit up for sale is one of Pica's later releases, it has the 45 page manual, 2 pages of plans and ABS wing fairings and landing gear cuffs.

SO is that a good thing or a bad thing?? I've got a bid on it right now but just want to make sure it's a decent kit before I go to far with it. I have a GP Waco reserved at the LHS that I haven't picked up yet since loosing my Cox Pica due to a bad battery pack. I have started a 1/4 scale CTO scratch build but am looking for one to keep me entertained while I build a pair of the CTO's.

CATFLYER,
Will you be doing a build thread on your CTO?

John

I will try and do one. It's going to be a few weeks before I really get after it, I have 2 other projects in various states that I need to get cleared out of the way. I also have to get my new building board finished since the old door I have used for the past 20 years is getting a warp in it. I just ordered 3 TJI floor joists (the engineered wood I-Beams) and will be preparing that the next few days.

Good news

Went out to remaiden the Waco this morning and I’m happy to say all went well. Robert brought out his thro meter and we recheck everything set the incidence on the stab and pointed her into the wind the tale jumped off the ground in less then ten feet (scared me) and lifted off nice & easy. After trimming her out she did quite well. Landing wasn’t the best have to work on that. The wind picked up so only got in one flight all & all I’m vary happy I plan to fly her one more time to make sure all is good then finish painting every thing.

Thanks

You like the adjustable stab huh? Glad it worked well for you. Hopefully everyone will go to that system. You might need to dial it in a touch more to assist with landings.

Bill, Waco Brother #1

ps, Never say I'm going to fly it one more time. I've seen that prove to be true. Say I'm going to fly it again.

Jim,
I went with the ground adjust felt it was all I needed. Didn’t want to add the weight of another servo.

Bill,

Yes Yes I love the adj stab when the tale jumped off the ground and she was running down the runway on the front wheels I thought yes this is the way a Waco should take off. After landing we readjusted the stab I can’t what to fly her again. I’m certainly not glad I busted her up but the adj stab is a great improvement I would recommend any one still in the building stage to do the adj stab. I really like your way using tubing for the cabane struts they look so much better then what I had. She may not be bigger but she will be certainly be better.

I all most forgot to tell you the best change I made to the Waco. After weighing all the weight I had in the nose and the weight of the G26 I decided to put a larger engine in her I was able to get more power (that I needed) and remove all the weight I had in the nose. I think your really going to like the sound of this engine.

Catflyer, I think the later kits had some inprovements, over the earlier one. I'd go for it if it is NIB.

I'm not going for it, I just went through my e-trade account summary for the past 5 years and it looks like I should have invested in Pica Waco kits because at the price this "KIT" is at now I would have made a lot better return on my investments. I just can't get my head wrapped around paying $100+ (Tower discounts and free shipping) more for a kit than the GP ARF that is roughly the same size and close to the same model.

I have to agree, these Pica kits can fetch unreal prices, that is why a lot of these fellows are cutting their own. If time is a consideration, the GP ARF may be the way to go.

thats why a lot of folks are turning to scracth building these I guess.

I paid way too much for mine as well .... but i would do it again in a heart beat. The finished project is worth it.

Hi Bill
Nice Job.
I hope this doesn't piss off the purest scale buffs. my smaller YMF-5 was good for barnstorming with the ailerons cranked to max deflection. It took the advice of others with my Pepino waco's to build the ailerons one bay longer. I found from
time to time with the smaller Waco that I wished the ailerons would have been bigger.(this does take it away from being scale). red one is 1/6 scale. frame one'(s) are 1/4 scale.
