Congrats to Lonnie,
He has done a great job of building the kit into a World Class scale model. I just hope that "Officail" Bill isn't too rough on him .

Thanks for posting the pics. Best of Luck to Lonnie and Mitch for the event.
Anthony

Gents,

Here are some more photos of Lonnies bird, there closeups are of some of his detailing which shows why its turning out to be a center of attraction at Top Gun. They are self explanitory, so enjoy. It has captured a crowd all morning long.

Good to see Dan and Robert again this year. (again thanks Dan for the assist.)

Well now I guess I have no excuses any more, I need to get off my duff and finish my 1/6 scale YMF so I can get started on my 1/5 Scale Waco. I received my package today from Fibertech with my cowling and wheel pant. Their is no need to split these wheel pants in half to shave the excess out of the middle that was all taken care of for me. COOL DEAL!!!! Here's just a few pics to show ya I'm not pollin yer chain.

Nice Dave , Did you ask them to remove the excess on the pants? I forgot to, but mine look the same as yours but with a little extra work. They do a great job. George

So, where does one get blue anodized fittings for the fuel lines in that size?  WOW.

I'm just getting started gluing wood on my 1/5 Pica kit. Boy, if there was evere a good canidate for lazer cutting, the ribs on that kit are it.  The Die crunching was very poor, and when you stack up the ribs, they are not even remotely all the same.  Any clues on how to address this without making a complete set of new ribs.  Do they really need to be lite ply?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Joe

Team Scale starts today and I will be right up front taking it all in. The best part of working Top Gun is I can be as close to the action as the pilots are. I’m especially looking forward seeing Mitch take to the sky with Lonnie’s Waco. Lonnie has done a beautiful job building and with Mitch at the sticks I it can only be a good thing.
Best of luck to you guys.

Congratulations Lonnie you are a lucky man honeymooning at Top Gun.

Hello to the many fans of this amazing thread.  I have given up on finding a 1/5 scale YMF-5 kit, even after calling and being turned down by Precision Cut kits, which states in their FAQ that they can/will cut kits from publicly available plans for planes that are not part of their regular inventory.  I have a call into the AMA plans service, but they have not called me back yet.  It looks like I will have to scratch build from their Pica plans.  The template sheet should be a major help.  I have built/rebuilt several planes from scratch - I count the Ikon N'wst WACO UPF-7 kit as a puzzle that came just short of scratch building - so I think I know the challenge I am facing.

After spending several days reading this thread, I have not come across much discussion about gathering the various materials and accessories required to make a complete airplane.  I know that I can buy the cowl and wheel pants from either Fiberglass Classics or Fibertech, and I have read a couple of messages dated 2007 (page 156) about trying to get Sierra to make shock-absorbing landing gear struts.  These struts are not listed on Sierra's products page 5 years later.  Are they available as a special order?  Has anyone created a reasonably accurate material take-off for the wood that will be needed for this plane?  If so, I would appreciate a copy to get me started.  I will continue reading this thread, and will have a much better idea of the task at hand after I receive the plans and template sheet.

By the way, I have not been able to connect to the House of Moy website.  Does it still exist?  Or is similar information available elsewhere?

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

House of Moy as far as I know, is just page one of this Forum.

I was lucky enough to locate a PICA kiet for $300.00 from a friend in my club. right after I bought it, one came available on EBay and sold for less than that.  I would suggest you put a saved search for the kit in EBay and you will be notified when one goes up for bids or is posted for sale now

Good luick on finding one. They are out there.

Joe

Did Lonnie's faux landing gear suspension break? The Waco does look great in the air.

I also have a 919TT.  It is a 1/5th scale Dave Platt design and it is up for sale to a good home. Let me know if there is anyone interested for a local purchase.
