Well, no turning back now.

F4 came out easier than expected, I used a jigsaw and cut on all the glue lines. I just need to cut another firewall as the one I cut doesn't fit all that well. I will cut off the back of the fuel tank box and install the fuel tank from the front, Im not going to cut any of the formers to be able to remove it from the rear as I think it can wait untill I need to remove the tank.

thanks for all the advise

thought i'd better make a progress report,i decided to clear the decks so i can give this all of my attention and can't wait to get started.but in the mean time things are starting to come together i think i have found a laser 150 four stroke which should fit in the cowl with very minor adjustment crank centre to rocker cover is only 3 7/8 so should be good to go.also i have been given a robbo cutter that a friend could not get used to so can now cut my own vinyl. ok time for more reading i feel like johnny five "input input input"

I thought the nose looked too long.......... Didn't the cowl stop just slightly ahead of the windshield?

OK Bill,

Some comments,

Glad you made it back safely, get some rest.

As Dash said, the nose IS too long (looks like the section between the cockpit and cowl has been extended).

The same section is too small in diameter

The cowl may also be too long and or too large in diameter.

Otherwise it looks pretty good.

P1 - Picture of N 9854A taken from a similar angle (it has similar colors)
P2 - Side view of N 9854A (emphasizes the long tail/short nose)

So - more importantly, How is Dick doing?

I think it is an angle issue with the photo. I'll post one from a different perspective. Can't load photos right now. Kahn, I'll text some to you.

Bill,

I don’t know if the nose is to long or short I just think it looks good. Look forward seeing it fly in Florida.

Bill,

It does look much "mo better" from this angle. If anything , comparing it to the full size plane shown above, the cowl my look a little small.  Probably the angle again.

See you have a three banger in it. Who's kit or ARF is this?  How large?  I always like the 195, but I knew someone who was killed in one when a wing failed in heavy weather!  Maybe a strut whould have helped them?

Not a kit or Arf. Built by Dick Watz from Wendell Hostleter plans. Quarter scale. It is a very large airplane. A wing failure in heavy weather would suggest some serious G load. This cantilever wing was very very strong. Maybe some big negative G numbers...

I think the accident report indicated they were in a thunderstorm when the accident occured.  Been there, done that!  Not fun.  My radar controller said no thundestorms observed, and about that time all hell broke loose.  Before we came out the other side, I had oil covering the left wing of the Baron I was flying.  That was early in my career. I made  a point to avoid them at all costs.  I was already aware of the 195 crash.

Bill,

Dick did a very nice job on the 195. Enjoy it. Here are a few more pics from the full size. These shots show the nose to be correct and not distorted by the angle of the camera.

P1 - N 9854A
P2 - N 9833A (it was under it's annual inspection and I was able to use the ladder for this over the nose shot.
P3 - N 9854A

It's coming along better than expected,

recessing the firewall an inch worked out perfect for keeping the length the same. I installed a 12 oz tank from the front, I cut out the back of the fuel tank box but I am going to wait on making the mods needed to remove the tank until a need arises or I find the time.

I still need to check the CG, fix the covering around the cowl, and get a proper prop before I send it skywards.

Hi folks,

I'm just getting ready to split my wheel pants as recommended to reduce the width as recommended.  The photo shows a 1/4 inch reduction in width if the blue tape section is removed, or a 3/8 inch reduction if I remove the section to the outside lines.  The current width as received is 2 3/4 inches. The pants as shown on the plan is 2 1/8 inches wide.

Bill, would you like to post your comments on this?

Thanks,

Joe

Chris, yea if you can, my email is rccrasher65@yahoo.com  Thanks George    I must be loosing my mind lately, I have lost quite a few things with my model's  lately. Or my wife was correct in saying that my hanger is getting too big and disorganized. I don't want to admit  it but she's right. It might be time to clean the shop.

Took mine to the Propsnappers club of Portland, Maine open house this past Sunday along with my kit built Great Planes Super Skybolt. It was quite blustery all day so I didn't try to fly it, but it got a lot attention on the flight line. There were many dissappointed people but I felt it was better not to risk landing or taking off when the winds were so strong and would constantly change direction.

Here is a video link showing some of the actvity. I'm not not in any of it other than on the flight line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gdg7VaNVU8

Removing 1/4 inch will allow your Skylite wheels to fit and the outer wheel pant support as well.

We just got moved into our new home in Florida. I now have a shop with about 4000 sq ft of building space, plus 20 acres to fly in. Color me very happy
