Status: offline 		Flew the Waco again on sunday, the flight went well but upon landing, the landing gear did a little split causing a prop strike throwing the waco back in the air and ending in a nose dive at about 40 degrees. the good news is there not much damage. The prop is broke and some of the balsa skin around the LG is a bit busted up.

Here is a pic I took before the flight, I was planing on taking more after the flight but that didnt work out.

Hey Bill,
My intentions were not to over power the Waco but only to give it a little more power. With the G26 the plane was almost 19.5 lbs and although the 26 did get her in the air it was at full power and felt like it was struggling so by changing over to the 38 it gave me that little extra power I was looking for on take offs and I’m still 19.5 lbs. I’m going to take her out in the morning and hopefully get in a few flights before the wind start blowing out of the south. I’ll see if I can get Robert to shoot a video.

Do you know if there is a prop extension for the 1.60 Gemini?  With my current mount, a 1/4 inch extension, I have about 3/8 " prop clerance from the cowl.  And it seems almost no clearance in the cowl for a dummy radial. The left exhaust stack is verty close to the inner lip of the cowl, and the carb is way up there as well.  Setting the engine back a quarter inch or so would help a lot.

Status: offline 		There are probably a couple out there for the 160. This is not the only OS engine that would use such an extension. Find one with the same thread pitch and diameter and go for it. Or if that fails, turn one from bar stock 6061 T6

I have a Saito 125 in the Great Planes WACO and it's more than enough power. Full throttle take-offs are done in about 16 ft with a steep climb out if wanted. A more "scale" looking take-off can be had at half throttle with a strong climbout. Big loops and such are quite easy. The hard part is getting it slowed down! It has a great glide and will carry a lot of energy on base and final if the thrttle isn't brought back on downwind.

There's guy at one club that tries to get me to trade his BUSA 1/4 scale Fokker D-VII for my WACO...I tell him no thank you everytime.

The Waco draws a crowd on the flight line everytime too. The kit built ones shown here and larger scale ones must be a real show stopper when they arrive at the local field.

Tmac48....outstanding! Wow, the more you look the more there is to see. Beautiful plane.

I just wanted to ask wether or not you would do any thing differently if you were to build another one of these birds. also, I have but a meesly saito 150 4c to put on mine. its what i got, you know? anyway , I was just wandering if you would recomend changing anything to handle the little bit of extra weight and torque provided by the bigger motor. and also what prop are you using for your 125. thanks in advance for your advice. take care.  Rob Abel

As far as the motor mounting goes it was pretty much by the book. I had a little trouble with the lite ply cowl locating disc assembly getting it to fit together true and there was a lot of test fitting and trimming, but I wouldn't recommend anything different. A big help came from a magazine review in which they cut holes in the front disc so you see through as well as apply epoxy inside to mount the ring. I lucked out in that the combination of the 90 degree exhaust header and stock elbow and muffler fit inside the cowl. The large flexible exhaust tip is the only thing exiting the cowl. I did end up with my battery pack on the supplied tray after the fact for balance and it would have eliminated several assemble/disassemble cycles if I had planned to use it from the start. I would imagine the 150 would be heavier and possibly not require the battery to be moved forward in your case.

I'm running a Master Airscrew 16 x 6 black nylon prop on mine. One reason is for the heavier weight up front and possibly some "flywheel" effect to help low idle and the other reason was for nose over in case that happened as I find the wooden props seem to do more damage to the plane when a prop strike occurs, although I imagine it's less stressful for the engine when it breaks. This plane however doesn't exhibit any nose over tendancies like my other WWI biplanes do so it may not be a concern. In fact I've picked a wooden prop to test with to see if I can get a slower idle and perhaps slow the plane down on landing.

There were other elements of the kit that I did differently if you are interested in those.

Status: offline 		as always thanks for the info Jay , it will help. the 150 is also a little taller  from the crank centerline to the top of the rocker covers , so I'm certain I'll have to make some relief holes in the cowl for clearance. DANGIT!!! oh well, whatcha gonna do? as I'm not sure what the weight difference is between the 125 and the 150, and I'm not sure how that big a$$ muffler will fit inside the cowl. I know I'd much rather run a flexible pipe out the bottom than too have to make a great big hole for it to clear. thanks again for your help  brother, she's still on the back burner on low for now, as I've got to get three more servos yet. and we're in the process of looking for a new house. this none just is not big enough for all our needs . take care and I'll be in touch again when we get settled and I get started putting everything together.
