Bill,

I've been here daily, just haven't felt the need to comment.

Thanks John,
Well it seems there is no definitive answer. I contacted a guy from the Waco museum and he said some Waco's had 2" and 3" spaced stitching on early models and later models had all 2". I am going to go with 3" outside the prop wash and 2" inside. Not like I am going to compete with the plane anyways. The original is in pieces and the documentation does not specify.

All the newer Waco Classics appear to have 2" stitching and restorations have 2" ss well.

It's all in fun!!
Anthony

Bill,
The brother hood list sure has grown since I joined. I wonder if this is a good time to talk another T shirt run. I wear mine quite often so I’m in any time.

I'm thinking about getting back into r/c after many years away. I've always had my eye on building a Pica 1/5 Waco. I found one for sale, but I've noticed through searching that there are two kits - the box with a picture of a blue plane and the box with a white plane. It appears the blue was made in the '80s and the white maybe in the '90s. Is that accurate?  And my main question is, what is the difference in the kits?  Will I give up anything significant if I buy the kit in the blue box?

Thanks,
Mike

i don't know if the dates are acurate but you are in the ball park, the later kit seems to be better die cut & includes the abs wing fairings also a better manual. but with the help of this site many have built with the plans from the ama site and mrhud on here hosts the manuals and templates, whatever way you go the resources are here to build a great model

Thanks for the info.  I'm not sure why I'm in such a hurry, I won't be able to start building for quite a while, but a bird in the hand, I suppose.  I pulled the trigger and made an offer - we'll see what happens.

I've only touched the surface on this thread, but what a great resource.  Thanks to all for sharing.

Mike

Mike,
Here’s the link to the manual and templates if you care to look over before getting your kit. If you decide to build from the AMA plans make sure you ask for the templates. What ever way you decide to go welcome back to the hobby.

That's great.  I was sort of looking for that link, but got sidetracked on the many other things covered in this thread.  It's all very inspiring.

Thank you,

Hello all,
Been kind of quiet the last few days. Anthony your Waco’s looking good did you have any problems with your wings lining up with the new fuselage?
I did manage to get the new aluminum gear mounted in the new build I’ll post some pictures as soon as I take some.

Hi there everyone, I'm still working on my SRE at the moment.
Does anyone know why there might be a difference in the width of the strip around the root of the bottom wings? I mean, the left and right wings don't seem the same?
See photo.

Is there a wing walk on the left wing that might be making it different?

When I built the fuselage and tail of mine I built the elevator horn and push rod to stay inside the fuselage.  Was not really hard just stiffen the elevator joiner and install a music wire horn in the center to drop down inside, a little trimming of the fuselage formers and it worked slick.  Of course if you are past this point you will still need to exit the fuselage.  If this sounds like the way you would like to go I think I still have pictures somewhere.

It looks to me like the picture is off center from the right side of the plane, giving a small amount of paralax/optical illusion...I believe that if the picture were dead center/head on, you'd see they are the same...JMHO

I thought the same thing when I first looked at the photo, but a closer look, following those sections down under the wing and to the trailing edge, it's appears as though they are quite different in size.

Dan,
I did not have any issues with the wings lining up on the new fuse. I mounted the top cabane and it came out perfect.

kvlasblom,
If I were to guess and I am, I would say it has to do with the wing walk on the bottom left wing panel. You would not want anyone alking on the flashing/fillet. I will have to look at some this fall at the Waco Fly-In.
Later!!
Anthony

Kim,

That is Al Womack’s 1941SRE NC 58785. There is a wing walk on the upper port side of the lower wing to enter the cabin and the upper side also has a narrow fairing strip. The starboard side does not have a wing walk and does have a wider fairing strip. The lower fairings may have been made to match the upper fairings. The difference may be in the reinforcement for the wing walk or (just a possibility) that the fairings were replaced at different times or by 2 different craftsmen.

P1 - Port side
P2 - Starboard side
